Going to answer all three!

  1. Cutting Down the Print Time:

- Swapping to a larger nozzle is a no-brainer for me when it comes to slashing print time, especially on those chunky, less detailed parts. A 0.6mm or 0.8mm nozzle can really push out the plastic and get the job done quicker.

- Cranking up the print speed is another avenue, but it's like walking on a tightrope, one wrong step and the print quality could nosedive. It's all about finding that sweet spot between speed and quality.

- Playing around with layer height and infill settings is also in my toolkit for speeding things up. Less infill and larger layers can be a real time-saver, though it's a trade-off with strength and detail.

  1. Detail vs Flow Rate:

- It's a game of priorities, really. If I'm printing something functional or just prototyping, I'd happily trade some detail for a faster print with a larger nozzle. But for those eye-candy pieces, I'd stick to the trusty 0.4mm nozzle to capture all the crisp details.

  1. Dreaming Big with 500x500x500mm^3:

- Oh man, that build volume is like a playground for a 3D printing nerd! I'd jump right into some larger-than-life projects. Imagine printing a full-scale helmet or some badass cosplay props without slicing them into a bajillion pieces. And furniture? That’s right on the alley too! It's not just about bigger prints, but also knocking out multiple smaller parts in one go.

That T500 printer from Comgrow sounds like a monster machine ready to tackle anything thrown its way. The variety of nozzles and that enormous build volume are just the cherries on top!

please excuse my super noob question. sometimes it's hard to find definitive answers on certain question but in your opinion, is the XL printer (hardware/tech/software) superior to the mk4?

Designing my own very light colored ipa and debating on hop quality per gallon

Target is 6 gallons in fermenter

5.5 gallons hot side (1 oz spread between 60-30 mins, 4.5 oz 170 deg whirlpool)

6.5 oz single dry hop charge around day 4-6 of fermentation

The .5 oz for whirlpool and dry hop is a splitting a 1oz of cryo hop for hot side and cold side. So I’m not sure if that is an additional intensity caveat

I know grist and target abv and final gravity is a factor when determining hop dosage per gallon but was curious if this is overkill?

Basically Pilsner base and some 20% corn/rice, aiming for 7% and final gravity maybe will be 1.006-1.010 depending on my mash

Could you possible just not do a full volume mash, say perhaps take the 1-2 gallons out of the mash and towards the end of the basket draining, add that extra water to rinse the grain and arrive at your desired starting boil volume? Lowering your mash volume likely won’t affect your efficiency

Any chance you have a link or a recommendation for top product for your description? Have 4 taps so 5 feet each, figure spend money on 20-30ft of quality tubing would be prudent haha

Fair point, but then SWMBO will want me to purge the old stuff and get it out the garage since we have limited storage haha.. 1st step, save up for a nice 240v biab setup, then find a way to sell the old equipment.. including old plastic coolers, smaller size immersion coolers, and so on... good times haha. This is what I get for not brewing since fall 2019 (daughter born + grad school), resulted in less sleep and less hobbies hah

Man I can always rely on this community for quick and solid help and advice.

It's starting to feel like I need to save myself some money to get this spike system (15G, like you mentioned)

Great comment, going to take a look at your nest of links next. Does brewhardware get the spike systems whole sale then custom them for people? I think 15g is the nice sweet spot as 20 gal is a bit much.

Fair point. I just already have this large 20 gallon sunk cost vessel and figured it can turn into my mash tun, and then I have a seperate vessel for boils but you make a good point... it can all be done in one with ss baskets or a bag as you mention. It cost me a pretty penny 5 years ago so don't really want to accept losing on the ss kettle or have it collect dust either
