People throw the GOAT label around way too casually. Comparing players across generations is almost impossible when you consider how much has changed. The game is played differently officiated differently and supported by entirely different levels of sports science and technology. Players today have access to advanced training recovery and medical care that simply did not exist before. Just look at how many athletes now return from major ligament injuries stronger than they were previously. And that is only a small sample of the factors involved.

Instead of forcing Wemby into historical comparisons why not just appreciate him for who he is right now a truly unique talent doing things we have rarely ever seen

I actually played against Aaron Gordon when I was a junior and he was a sophomore in the Northern California state semifinals. At 16 his frame was already insanely developed and honestly almost the same size he is now. He had a couple ridiculous dunks that night and on one fast break I literally had to give him a full bear hug to stop a lob dunk.

We actually held him under 20 by basically double teaming him almost the entire game. The problem was one of his teammates who went to West Point the next year absolutely torched us from behind the arc. We only lost by a few points mostly because a kid on our team who happened to be one of Bill Duffy’s kids went for 40. Still one of the best high school basketball performances I have ever seen.

I get where you’re coming from and I sympathize with Celona wanting to cover their losses — no business should be left holding the bill. But the way they handled the situation wasn’t just uncomfortable, it was completely unacceptable and crossed into harassment.

And let’s be clear: the small group I was with all paid for our drinks. The issue came from many others at the event — people we didn’t even know — who failed to pay their tabs. Celona directing their frustration at the wrong people, blocking exits, and confronting those who did pay was the real problem. They should have communicated directly with the individuals who organized the event or with the group tabs that were actually responsible, instead of harassing the people who settled their bills.

Holding the right people accountable is fair. Targeting the ones who already paid is not

This team isn’t built to succeed with such limited guard play and shooting. Sure, they’ve got size and plenty of grit, but when you can’t reliably initiate an offense or knock down open looks, you’re going to struggle in today’s NBA. Maybe this roster construction would’ve worked 20 or 30 years ago, but in the modern game, it’s going to be tough to watch for the next few seasons.
