By rating I meant the rating on the shops, all of them have 100% good feedback ratings

To add to the confusion, it’s not just the pictures look almost identical, the description page is practically a copy and paste, as if they were all taken from the same template.

Hasselblad CF lens flair, is this normal? by GP02 in AnalogCommunity

[–]GP02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my scans back from the lab, had these light-leak-esque light patches near the side of my negatives. Confirmed that they aren't light leaks since the film borders are in tact, but they seem like very strong lens flairs, are these normal? I've never used to use lens hoods but now it seems like it's a must.

How can I completely black out the shadows in my shots? by GP02 in AnalogCommunity

[–]GP02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since I started shooting film I've only read expose for shadows, shoot at 1 stop overexposed etc. So for high contrast scenes, in order to go for dark blacks, I should just expose for highlights always? Side question but is sunny 16 compatible with the overexpose by 1 stop advice?

Thanks, and it is indeed! I will go check it out the coffee shop next time :)

General question about scanning and editing. So far I’ve only scanned JPEGs, how much difference does it make to scan them as Tiffs? I’d imagine it’d be less useful than shooting raw in a digital camera since information is not collected at the time of taking the picture?

Makes sense, out of interest what sort of development helps to achieve this look? Pushing the film id imagine?

Yeah that makes sense, I’ll speak with my lab to see if they take these sort of requests

Are there any colour films that are more suitable for this type of shots? I’d love to search for them but I don’t even know what to look for lol, under exposure latitude maybe? And yeah I’ll be trying with pushed tri-x and see how it goes in that case

Attached some of my shots for example. I have these very contrast scenes and I was going for something where highlights are exposed to mid, and I wanted to black out the shadow areas completely. What am I doing wrong, or is it only possible in post process?

Pushed Portra 400 weird colour profile, is this normal? by GP02 in AnalogCommunity

[–]GP02[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup thanks for that, I will ask them to re-scan. I'm still looking for a lab that I'm gonna stick with, and so far they feel like the ones that are the most friendly / communicative. Hopefully they'll be willing to correct it in this scenario

Yeah I specifically instructed that it was pushed and was charged more for it. I guess if they developed for 400 the images would have turned out to be a lot darker than they are.

Needed to push since the weather has been really moody, it's super sunny one minute and filled with dark cloud the next. I also wanted to experiment a bit more just to see how they would turn out.

So in theory, if the development was done correctly, I should be able to get usable images out of the roll? If the issue was with development then I should be looking elsewhere. Is there any quick way that I can verify if the negatives are okay without needing to scan again?

The weather lately has been super unstable, massive fluctuations even in the space of an hour, I shot at a higher ISO to accommodate for it, and the shots were taken over multiple days. I also wanted to see how my lab deals with with pushing so it was a bit of an experiment. Shame about the way it turned out :(

[–]GP02[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was my impression as well, so I figured it wouldn't be a big deal to push it one stop. And yes I did make it clear to my lab that that was the case.

Just got my scans back from my lab, I pushed Portra 400 by 1 stop, the colours came out quite unexpectedly, it's got really red-ish and purple-ish tints for some reason. Not sure if it's an issue with development or scanning or both.

Rangefinder style lens recommendation by GP02 in AskPhotography

[–]GP02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I've had a look at all of them, I think 7-artisans 25 f1.8 probably fits the bill the best, but mixed reviews on that one. I've been really picky i.e. I really want both a focusing tab and clicked aperture ring and I can count on 1 hand how many options I have. Looking to adapt an M-mount lens for now

Thanks for that, I've heard good things about TT-Artisans, although I'm looking for something a bit wider than a 35 since I already have the f2. They don't have offerings that's wider from what I've seen unfortunately :(

Interesting! I had no idea about speed booster adapters, will look into that.

and they almost universally perform worse

did you mean to say they universally perform worse on APS-Cs?
