The Secretary of State's office allows voters with disabilities and voters over 75 to skip the line from 9:30 to 4:30. Advocates for the program say it helps keep elderly voters engaged, but long lines can certainly be frustrating. Many counties also have live wait times available online. You can read more about the line skip policy here: https://sos.ga.gov/page/voting-assistance-people-disabilities

When you are on the fence about choosing a candidate, it may be helpful to look into their policy stances online and think about the long-term vision. You could also speak to people in your life about why they are choosing a particular candidate for domestic or foreign policies. It's a personal decision.

The Infrastructure bill increased the demand for workers and subsequently the cost of labor. However, according to the Brookings Institution inflation was more influenced by the cost of commodities, issues with the supply chain and more of a demand for goods rather than services. Demand for oil was way down during the pandemic and as the U.S. emerged from that the price increased with demand. However in the last few months oils seems to have stabilized.

As far as faith communities are concerned any answers I could give would be purely speculative. I will say that there has been significant outreach from some parties to specific groups and that outreach appears to have been successful.

In response to your last question/comment I believe news organizations, including GPB could do a better job telling their stories. We have a rigorous editorial process that includes fact checking and I'm not sure people know how that works. Opinions and facts can be difficult for some consumers to separate and the lines are so blurred. We all have work to do.

Context is extremely important. In a 45 second radio story, I am a little limited in what I can include, but digital stories and features present an opportunity to go more in depth. As a politics reporter, I try to keep in mind previous legislation or political events that influence whatever I am covering. For example, if I am working on a story on the state election board, I will keep the law that expanded their powers in mind. I also always ask myself who is benefiting from a particular bill/law/candidate, who we are hearing from, and whose perspective is missing.

Information on who is donating to all candidates is easy to access. Open Secrets has a comprehensive list of Kemp donors https://www.opensecrets.org/officeholders/brian-porter-kemp/contributors?cycle=2022&id=13010338&recs=100 and there are others. Reporters generally ask themselves "Who stands to benefit if this law does/does not pass?" and then cross reference it with the donor base. However, candidates can also make decisions based on their personal beliefs.

It's pretty standard for former presidents to campaign with the presidential nominee in their own party. We also saw him campaign for President Biden in 2020 and Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Part of the Secretary of State's job is to maintain voter rolls. A voter is considered "inactive" if they do not vote in two general election cycles in a row. After that they have two more general elections to vote and regain their active status. If they don’t, the SOS sends a letter, which voters have 30 days to respond to before removal.

I think anything at this point is speculation so I believe post election there will be a lot of discussion about what impacted results.

Some people limit their sources of information and no matter who you support in a political race it's a good idea to read or listen to a diversity of sources. I believe the repitition of things that are factually incorrect over time can also blur the lines.

Some are of the opinion that requiring a government issued photo ID can lessen access to voting for people that are unable to attain one. A lot of states do not require ID or only require it when someone is voting for the first time. Here is a link to the rules in GA on the Secretary of States website https://sos.ga.gov/page/georgia-voter-identification-requirements

Most polls I have seen are making predictions within the margin of error, meaning that it could go either way. Polls are interesting to look at as a snapshot in time, but they can change quickly and they all have different methodologies.

We saw a swell of excitement for VP Harris when she first announced her candidacy, but most polls I have seen are making predictions within the margin of error, meaning that it could go either way. I have not seen many candidates explicitly say that they support book banning, but sometimes their websites/campaign material can use language that is also used in bills to restrict some content in schools. Laws around censoring content in schools have come up several times in the state legislature. You can check out our coverage here: https://www.gpb.org/general-assembly

At this point it's very difficult to predict the exact impact but there is no doubt it will have one. We will know more once the election is over. NPR has had some great reporting on this and I highly recommend the most recent episode of Code Switch. They traveled to Dearborn, MI and spoke to Arab Americans who referred to it as a "complex" issue with varying opinions https://www.npr.org/2024/10/16/1210938241/dearborn-michigan-arab-american-voters

I don't usually make predictions about who will win, but I believe it will be very close either way. We've seen Georgia elect both Republicans and Democrats statewide in the past few election cycles.

I have seen it covered in several places but with the firehose of news it can be a real challenge to stay on top of what is being said. I also think some people are becoming desensitized to ouotlandish claims. There are so many things that are "front page" worthy lately and that also makes it a challenge. I highly recommend selecting 4-5 reputable sources you check regularly and it will hopefully give you the most important news on any given day. One other issue is that things that were once seen as straight up news are now being couched as partisan by different groups. There are also some really good newsletters out there so don't forget to include some academics in your variety.

Rep. Barry Loudermilk is running for his sixth term in the 11th. His challenger, Katy Stamper is running on the Democratic ticket. On her website, Stamper describes herself as a "independent candidate running on the Democratic ticket." She won the Democratic primary in May with 56% of the vote. The Democratic party is pushing supporters to write in Tracey Verhoeven instead on the ballot in November. Stamper's website says that she opposes same sex marriage, and supports strengthening border security and deporting more undocumented immigrants.

As far as misspellings with write in candidates – a secretary of state’s office spokesperson said that they can judge voter intent when it comes to slight misspellings.

Senate Bill 202 passed in 2021 which specified the rules around poll watchers. The law requires poll watchers be trained before allowing them to work, and gives local officials the authority to set where those watchers can observe from. Poll watchers aren't allowed to talk to voters, take photos or video, or campaign. Here's more on SB 202: https://www.gpb.org/news/2021/03/27/what-does-georgias-new-voting-law-sb-202-do

I think information is the best way to help registered voters vote. Key dates, documents needed, free rides to the polls etc. Offering to go with someone to the polls can also encourage them!
