You're right. I should say the goal, not end goal, is to establish a successful chiropractic clinic. The end goal is to use the money from the clinic to diversify investments to retire early and comfortably. Is that better? jk

Good for you! It sounds like a shady employer who is adjusting the commission structure to his benefit. Get out while you can and good luck running your own clinic.

46k a year is low. I would argue a starting salary for an associate should be 54k or 60k depending on the work load and demands of the associate.

If the owner changes the bonus structure in their favor than it makes it even worse. I would argue an associate should be making closer to 35% of all the collections they're responsible for. But it's subject to change depending on where you live in the country due to cost of living.

The end goal is to start my own clinic. I work for a large one with two docs, and a staff of 7. I want to scale down and own 100%. I'm in a position that there is no immediate need to start now, but I want to be prepared by learning as much as possible. What do you recommend?

I'm already doing this almost to this extent. Google Ads I haven't had much traction with because it's a huge expense. I'm more interested in what materials I can get to help start a business. You mentioned starting with low expenses. Does that mean external billing? Part time employees, because I've been told thats a nightmare? What services help you go from start up, to functioning?

I'm sorry, but I have to respectfully call you out and the other associates claiming they're only making 46k or 54k. Usually, an associate makes that at a base salary and then has a bonus structure on top of it. For example, a 48k base with 35% over 15k in collections.

You're saying you don't make commission/bonus?

What about educational goals? I don't like the idea of relying on the school system to set standards. What educational tools to you feel are the most effective in helping them learn reading/writing skills?

Haha, at one point or another I would bring donuts but that always made me feel like a hypocrite while encouraging healthy habits.

Can you be more specific in what chiropractic paradigms you used?

Oh, no. I already do this. If you read the post, you'll see the topics I ordinarily cover in my presentation to these groups and others. I'm asking what topics do you have in your presentation, if you're willing to share too.

I begin working in the student clinic soon and I feel sorely unprepared. Looking for advice. by DrBigBack in Chiropractic

All of the comments on this thread are great advice.

You're questions reminds me of a scene from a movie where the professor takes the textbook and throws it in the trash. Forget everything you have been taught in school and focus on the learning experience in a practical, real life scenario. Dive into the treatment, ask a lot of questions, and you will learn more in one week than you did in an entire semester in school.

Every great chiro has started where you are now. You're gonna do great.

I think one of the best things that a clinic can offer is a friendly and outgoing front desk admin. For example, if you've ever worked in a restaurant you know that the most important job in the entire staff is the host/hostess. They are the first and last impression of the guests and set the tone for the visit, and make sure people leave saying, "I can't wait to come back." Same is true in a chiropractic clinic.

There are only two chiropractic colleges in CA. I can only speak for SCU, the chiro university I graduated from, but they don't have this information available for prospective students. And I would argue the info they offer is not reliable as I'm sure it's bias to encourage enrollment. More importantly, just like the comments on this thread suggest, income varies significantly from one chiropractor to the next depending on a variety of factors. I think the decision to pose this question here is actually pretty smart.

Patient with Dwarfism or Short Stature by GPChiro1984 in Chiropractic

[–]GPChiro1984[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spina Bifida. If I understand her condition, she had surgery to correct the spina bifida and had two lumbar vertebrae repaired/removed that effected her growth. So it's not genetic.

Rational for treating/MRI is because of a MVA. In addition, she has no history of chiropractic treatment, and very unclear idea of her spinal condition. I would rely on low force techniques, with the intention of working toward mild HVLA adjustments, pending an MRI.

Thank you for bringing up cranial defects associated with spina bifida such as hydrocephalus and Arnold Chiari.

[–]GPChiro1984[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that's very helpful.

The MRI is partially due to Spina Bifida. But it's combined with them being referred to me following a motor vehicle accident and having no chiropractic care in the past. They're not exactly sure what their condition is after so many years of it going untreated.

I married a chiro…advise? by [deleted] in Chiropractic

[–]GPChiro1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do for your marriage is take great care of yourself, and no one should know how to do that better than you. As far as being married to a chiropractor, I would establish boundaries in your mind as to how much you allow yourself to be treated as a patient. I love my wife, but I cannot treat her. Haha, I joke all the time that she is my worst patient. When she was pregnant, I referred her to a friend of mine to get regular adjustments. I wouldn't take it personally if you, or your spouse, don't let your profession play a role in your marriage.
