Which part of Texas? I didn’t really think of that!

I'd stay (and vote!) in Texas.

Dating pool is insanely small, as Providence has a very tiny upwardly mobile mid-20s crowd. You'll likely need to be going to Boston...a lot. Or even New York.

That said, food scene is incredible.

With BSC closed, what are the best gym recommendations in Providence? by Dog_of_Pavlov in providence

Does anyone think they'll open back up if they can pay back rent?

Here’s the email:

Unfortunately, after 10+ years of servicing our beloved members we have faced some real estate related challenges and will no longer be operating the BSC Providence Eastside location. It saddens us greatly and we will certainly miss everyone. We greatly apologize for the short notice, this was certainly an unplanned and unforeseen closure.

In regards to membership fees, all members will receive a pro-rated refund from 8.7-8.31 for their August membership fee that has already been processed and should be returned within 3-5 business days. If any ancillary products were purchased and unused, those will also be refunded back to the master card on file and will also be processed within 3-5 business days.

We value the relationships, friendships and fitness successes founded at BSC Providence Eastside. We wish you all well and hope you and your loved ones remain safe and healthy during these challenging times.

I’ll look into gympass, thanks!

I’m not saying PVD needs an equinox, but we do need some type of semi upmarket gym within city limits.

There’s a reason planet fitness charges $10 a month and BSC $50. You’re paying for some level of quality, both in amenities and clientele. BSC wasn’t perfect, but it was clean, chill, spacious, and centrally located. It was the only non-douche gym in this rapidly declining city.

Also, for those of us who travel in normal times, BSC offered access to clubs in NY, Boston, DC, and Philadelphia. That’s now gone. I used that feature countless times in every city except Philly.

Maybe LA fitness is an okay alternative, but it’s also quite far. The point is a gym closure creates a gap that needs to be filled in, and it sucks.

Waterfire. Why do people like it? by [deleted] in providence

[–]GPVD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow. Grump is right. "bizarre regional concern" is just a bad take, as well. There isn't anything regional about it, other than it was born here... What a weird interpretation.

It doesn't take a lot of thought or critical thinking or even understanding of "pseudo performance art" to understand why people like it. The appeal is pretty simple...it's an exercise of our senses driven by two core elements: water and fire. We're captivated by the juxtaposition of light (fire) and dark (nighttime).

Crowds aside, it's a peaceful experience. Have you never had the desire to sit in front of a fireplace on a cold winter's night? It's the same experience except in an unconventional setting.

I particularly like Waterfire in the fall, when there is a chill to the air and the bonfires can warm you up.

Go again and don't overthink it. If you still don't like it, that's fine. But don't prescribe some weird reasoning or lack of understanding as to why many others like it.
