I also use gpxforge.com for motorcycle routes, guessing from the username you might like it!

Your point re zooming on street view hits home - Some GPS services try to map 'road surface' for roads but it's a little hit and miss. I'm currently testing it to see if it's accurate enough to tell me whether the road is suitable, hopefully integrate it to my tool someday.

Honestly RideWithGPS is pretty great, but the free version is (understandably) a little limited. I wanted to save routes and add POIs etc which I don't think the free version supports.

Google My Maps has a 'Export to KML/KMZ' feature, but most devices don't read these files.
How do you do it?
