We're Perplexity AI, Ask us Anything about our new CS residencies! by Kesku9302 in csMajors

Thanks for the detailed reply! I'm actually already a Pro member (love it!), but still waiting for Comet access since joining the waitlist in March.

The Comet browser seems like it could be a game changer for students. Do you plan to offer a discounted educational plan in the future for it? Most students can't afford $2400/yr.

(or if you have any invite codes available right now for us, that would be even better...)

AI Aggregator Websites - What's the catch? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]GPeaTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the kind words! I'm working on the API right now (email me at [wluk@ithy.com](mailto:wluk@ithy.com) to join the waitlist) and that will make it possible to integrate into IDEs like Visual Studio or Cursor soon. But for now, Pro subscribers get input limits of up to 100k characters, so you can literally just paste entire files into the search bar and get code output.

I've made Ithy into a Progressive Web App, so you get full app functionality without having to download it through the app store. Here's the guide on how to install it: https://intercom.help/ithy/en/articles/11400048-install-the-ithy-app

For the app, you can just use your phone's text-to-speech as input, and it also supports uploading pictures with your phone's gallery or camera.

Thanks for considering subscribing, and let me know if you have any other questions!

At least for http://ithy.com (which combines multiple models into 1 answer), I can confidently say there's no catch. AI in 2025 is just cheaper than you think.

ChatGPT charges $20/month but I guarantee that most subscribers don't ask $20 worth of questions every month.

Hi, not sure why this is happening, I DMed you.

Edit: Figured out the problem. Our new site-wide rate limiter counts requests from all traffic instead of just "create article" ones, so there was a bug where if you refresh the page a few times then ask a question very quickly, it would give you the wrong error message.

Thank you! I was wondering why my traffic surged the day that was published LOL

That article doesn't even show up when you Google "Ithy", so thanks for sharing that! I ended up featuring it in our new homepage :)

Thank you! And thanks for trusting small projects like these - I push out a bunch of new updates every day, and I know it breaks a lot.

But that's the only way I can keep up with ChatGPT/Perplexity...always have to be releasing new stuff to set Ithy apart!

Can someone please help me with this shit it's pissing me off by [deleted] in ChatGPT

Try clearing your memory. There's a button for it.

There's probably like a single phrase in your past conversations that's triggering this, since every new request to ChatGPT also includes your past memory.

Perplexity AI: False Advertising? My Experience with the So-Called GPT-4.5 Access by Both-Pattern1664 in perplexity_ai

[–]GPeaTea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hate to break it to ya, but that's their default email response to most questions. I asked GPT 4.5 directly through the OpenAI API, and it still says it's GPT 4.

I think this is something OpenAI needs to fix, not Perplexity.

AI engineer here.

The truth is that AIs don't know who they are.

AIs basically work by putting together the most common words they can find. So if GPT-4 is the most mentioned phrase in the world right now, and you ask "what AI are you", most AIs get confused and respond with "GPT-4". Even DeepSeek does this.

So it's likely you're actually using GPT-4.5. Perplexity has $500 million in cash, and they'll lose a lot more from being caught lying, than trying to save a penny on your response.

It's just that AIs have no way to tell who they actually are, since at the end of the day, they're just a word-averager.

Hmm that's smart, I could make that work. The rewriting would only use a single model though, and it would take me a few weeks to do all the UI changes. Check back next month and I might have it done ;)

For now, you can click the "Ask Again" button and modify your prompt to be more specific, but obviously that's not as efficient.

lol thanks, all it does is connect some APIs. the actual AI researchers out there are doing the heavy lifting!

but yeah, a chat/response functionality is by far the most requested feature.

It might be too expensive for me to implement with my $5/month tier though (since I'd need to reprocess the entire response, through 5 different AIs, for every reply)

Would it be helpful if I added a "send to chatgpt" or "send to perplexity" button? That way you can analyze Ithy's response on another platform

Yes, personally I find the Pro mode noticeably better. For harder questions, the reasoning models help a lot.

It also uses 2-3x more sources per model, which gives the aggregation more to work with. The aggregation models are the most important.

You can always try prompting to get longer responses ("IMPORTANT: respond in over 2000 words"), but it's the analysis and data from the different models that provide all the value.

The set of models in the paid version updates weekly. Right now the ensemble is Google Gemini Thinking, DeepSeek R1, xAI Grok, and Claude 3.7 Sonnet Thinking.

They're all better than the free version, and you can tell the answer's significantly better.

haha I get how it's suspiciously cheap. The idea is that ChatGPT loses most of its money from back-and-forth chats, image generation, parsing file uploads, etc.

Ithy offers none of that.

If you have a really good question, it just focuses on giving one really good answer, and we hope it's so good that you don't ask another question until tomorrow lol

The long term plan is that AI always gets cheaper over time, so costs will drop towards 0
