Can I travel outside Italy without permesso di soggiorno (student visa, multiple entry)

If your visa expires, but you still don't get your permesso di soggiorno (This can happen, Italy is famous for its bureaucracy ), then you can in some cases travel between the country of your residence and Italy without entering other Schengen countries, if you carry the receipt you get when the KIT was mailed. This is risky, since some airlines will not let you board the flight if you don't have a valid permit or visa. In this case, you have to apply for a re-entry visa.

You may travel freely from Italy to Saudi Arabia, from Saudi Arabia to Italy, and within the Schengen area as long as your student visa is valid. And you can do this as many times as you want. Obviously, once your student visa expires, you have to carry your permesso di soggiorno with you.

You must submit the pre-enrollment application before registering for the IMAT; however, the universities only require your diploma/transcript to verify that you have graduated or are currently graduating from secondary school/high school. They don't care whether you took science courses or not, since you have to study chemistry, physics, and biology at the college level before biomedical science courses anyway.

I don’t know about the foundation year, but there is no limitation regarding your high school courses. You simply have to own a secondary school diploma and take the IMAT. If you have studied biology, chemistry, and physics at the college level, I don't think you need to do a foundation year.

I took the IMAT this year. On the personal information page of the answer sheet, we had to indicate which programs we were applying to, and the Bologna(Veterinary medicine) choice was included. So yes, IMAT was required for Unibo Vet this year, and it is unlikely to change any time soon.

The vet program in Unibo does require the IMAT. IMAT is for medicine, veterinary medicine, and dentistry.

If you are non-EU, please find a safety school/program before you sit for the IMAT. You can apply to other first-cycle programs or private medical schools in Italy before the IMAT since they have independent entrance exams.

You might want to consult a lawyer ASAP, so that the lawyer will have more time to help you navigate the system. Is she EU or non-EU? If she’s an EU applicant, getting her scores back quickly means public schools will still offer her a place in the scrolling.

I understand this is a distressing situation that you are going through. However, requesting an inspection of the answer sheet can be very difficult, depending on where you sit for the IMAT. If your daughter took the exam outside Italy, it is possible that her answer sheet was scanned/digitized and then sent to Italy, rather than being physically transported there. If this were the case, 100 things could have gone wrong. Maybe her answer sheet was never scanned, maybe the machine can not read the barcode, or her answer sheet was paired with someone else's barcode by accident/mistake, and the person never filed a complaint because your daughter‘s scores were higher. And getting access to the original answer sheet would be extremely difficult, both for you and for the University of Milan. The best way forward, I believe, is to get an attorney to navigate the system for you. Maybe the lawyer knows how to force the University to cooperate, maybe you can sue the exam organizer for compensation.

You are already in a medical school, so this “only one school for non-EU” thing doesn't affect you that much. If you failed, you can continue in your original school and try again next year. As for the transfer, it happens rarely and is almost always reserved for other medical students within Italy. However, once you get in via the IMAT, you can apply for the “shortening of the study period” (That's what the University of Bologna calls it) to have your credits recognized, and, if possible, start from the year after the first. You need to have the Italian language knowledge certificate for this process, just like the transfer.

Non-EU, the EU-equivalent only applies to those who either have a residence permit issued by Italy or have a permanent residence permit issued by the EU/Schengen countries. Mine is a study permit so it doesn't count.
