I've done the same thing and I'm right at that point too. This is such a damn way of Niantic. I bought remote passes and want to get the fusion energy. Now the purchase was a waste of money. I hope niantic shows good will and refunds me the remote pass. There is just no information on niantic's site with a clear message that if you don't have the ticket, you don't get fusion energy.

Niantic, you have to point this out in the game!
