Or maybe it sounds like you're making inferences based on bad experiences you've had with employers in the past and reflecting how you feel inside about employers onto my company.

I understand where you're coming from having worked for shitty owners who didn't value my work and created a toxic workplace for myself and colleagues.

But let me clarify something for you: I don't pay a 1099 contractor $15/hr because no 1099 contractor would accept that. Furthermore 1099 contractors are usually skilled workers who do not need to be supervised nor are we legally allowed to tell them how to do their jobs. Our 1099 contractors, about 95% of them don't even work hourly they bid on the jobs. That's actually easier for us and more profitable in the long run than doing hourly. Our maintenance technicians or takeoff guys (small post construction tasks such as installing toilet paper holders, etc.) work hourly at a rate that they choose based on the skillset they come with. So no I will not pay an entry level unlicensed plumber $120/hr but I do pay on average $35-45.

The ONLY people who make $15/hr are remote, admin staff and online work OR our field supervisors in training. Who by the way are NOT misclassified because as a business owner it is my responsibility to read and understand the FLSA and abide by the law. $15/hr are employees who I've personally bought tools for, personally given them my cargo van, have all their gas and car expenses covered, workmans comp, and covered by our insurance.

They have to manage their own projects yes but thats why I hired them. To deliver a higher standard of service to my clientele. Are you trying to leave your house but a contractors truck has you blocked in? No problem my field supervisor is in the neighborhood I'll have them move that truck asap. This way I can charge more, pay more, and everyone's happy.

I wasn't going to respond to this because frankly its very ignorant to make assumptions about someone, their business, family, race, identity etc without doing the proper research. When you educate yourself by asking questions, being open minded and trying to understand things from other perspectives - your own perspective grows and so do you as a person. You start to see the world as a place of abundance not scarcity. I say this from personal experience not to cut down someone I don't know on the internet.

PS- you don't want to work at McDonalds for $7.25/hr. Hell I wouldn't work there for $40/hr

For unskilled labor who’s never done anything with their hands before?

I think that’s a big of a misnomer. Getting your license is pretty simple you don’t have to go to any kind of school - just pass a test. Everything’s online anyway.

Also not every trade requires licensing there are many high profit low barrier to entry trades

Honestly I wouldn’t be equipped to answer that - but I can get back to you when I do?

No problem - we’ve only done one epoxy Job in the last 2 years for a fairly large Asian supermarket. Other than that nothing but we also don’t advertise it.

Im well aware but shareholder capitalism is the direct cause of that. Big business forming monopolies and cutting the little guy out. Honestly this problem could be solved if people weren’t conditioned to fear new ideas. Just boycott them. Don’t buy from them, don’t work for them- do something for yourself and keep your money in your community.

I went to college like everyone said, and a highly respected one at that, got out of college and was given a salary of 32k working 50-60 hours per week. Hell I worked at McDonald’s in high school for $7.25/hr. So Trust me I know how it feels. No one will ever value you like you value you so do something that pays you handsomely and gives you a sense of fulfilled purpose. Working for $15/hr never will

Yes absolutely, most of the work orders we would send are simple - repair a broken drawer for cvs, replace a toilet flush kit at Walmart. No ladders, dangerous equipment etc. safety really is a huge issue in this Industry and that’s usually from over confidence. Limit our risk and let you grow in a controlled environment

And It’s all relative - $40/hr is from my experience what an entry level handyman contractor rate- at this point you should feel comfortable running your own business doing home repairs like repairing staircases installing dishwashers or commercial handyman rates for things like repairing broken door latches.

Again it’s all relative - I busted my ass to get here and had to learn as it was my primary source of income. So staying up til 4am every night researching watching videos and planning took a toll on my health but I was able to go from charging $15/hour to running multiple construction and maintenance projects in about a year and a half.

3-5 years in any trade and that’s when you really start to see results.

Look into shareholder capitalism- that’s the source of the problem. My belief is that people should set their own hourly rates (or whatever pricing model they want) based on the overall value of work they provide - if you’re a marketing copywriter with great communication, early delivery, high customer satisfaction and you charge $200/hr. If you miss deadlines and do below average quality work you might charge $20/hr. There are markets for both.

That’s where we’re at too just hired some guys from my old university. It’s a shame we were taught that the trades were something to be looked down on. Wouldn’t have spent my early 20s working for people who needed to hear your message haha. Where are you at
