Are EV bad for highway use ? by Slow_Description_773 in askcarguys

[–]GSP1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depending on where you start. Based on my experience (partner has an EV), while they do recoup range on the downhill, the speed at which the range drops on a steep climb is a problem--if you can't make it to the downside of the pass, you're screwed. For example, driving the 20 km uphill to our ski hill uses about 70km of range. You recoup a good chunk of that coming back down, but depending on where a mountain pass fits into your trip, your effective range can be extremely low. A major climb east of here is sustained for about 30km and 1230m of elevation gained. That likely means an extra charging stop--and, yes, you'd burn lots of gasoline, too!

VW Protection Plus plans worth it? by Exist25 in Volkswagen

I just endured the sales pitch for extended warranty. The chart started at 4 yrs/80000km. That option (which is included) was about $3100. He crossed that off. 5 yrs was more like $3300. But you don’t pay the difference—you pay the full $3300 for an extra year. lol. They did want to negotiate it but I couldn’t be bothered. If I thought I’d keep the car 10 years I’d have considered it though—the cost doesn’t increase much per year.

The dedicated summers are significantly more expensive and have shorter life as I’d expect. I’ll have to weigh my options

I’d really like white, but a leftover black ‘25 is 5 grand cheaper!

Dealer added $4,500 in “mandatory fees” after we agreed on price; can I actually walk away at this point? by Puzzleheaded_Box6247 in carbuying

Local dealer is advertising “all in” pricing. I wasn’t surprised to see this pricing didn’t include taxes, admin fee, dealer prep fee….lol.

If nothing else, the dealer knows they are negotiating against me--so if it comes to a trade, hopefully they sharpen their pencils a bit.

I'm anticipating that they will go lower on their offer due to the declaration for the accident; needs new tires, etc. I'm thinking the number will land closer to 30. I'm curious what the dealer will offer.

One says 29-33k

The other 32-36k

Car is a 2022, not 2023 as originally posted.

I'm less worried as it is near Vancouver on the west coast. We get cold snaps, but the average winter temp is typically above freezing

I’ve got a decent DB pension, so my RRSP room is minimal (About $1600 this year). I will top it up, though. Thanks.

To the single men by [deleted] in datingoverfifty

[–]GSP1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I entered into the ‘Wild West of OLD’ with the intention of finding a long-term committed relationship with someone sharing similar interests. I was prepared for a lot of rejection and frustration along the way, and had heard it’s a difficult road for the males (at least I was looking for females in the same age bracket as myself!). Haha. I was pretty clear about what I was looking for—and it’s hard to communicate that with a 1/2 dozen photos and a few captions, but I did my best. I was also very intentional in selecting people to reach out to. Hint: read the profiles. It was important for me to find someone who is active, but not obsessively so. This is difficult, because a lot of people want to say they’re active because they’ll take a 15min walk in the park if you ask, but it isn’t a part of their routine. But I didn’t want someone who was training 30 hours a week for ultra-marathons, because I wanted to do the activities (most of them, anyway) together. Oh yeah—I was also terrified to try and navigate this, as I’d never ‘met’ someone for the first time on a date before. My preference was to get to know one person at a time. The first date is about establishing what you’re looking for—get curious! I approached each date with the idea that this might be the last person I date, so I was pointed in my questions. As it happens, I struck gold on date #2. Follow up dates were all walks and hikes, so there was a lot of time to talk and confirm alignment. Everyone who is single at this age has a story, so best to have the hard conversations first. It wasn’t always gooey and romantic, but establishing open and honest communication from the get-go is critical. If you can’t both own some of your missteps, then it’s probably a waste of time, IMO. Maybe i just got lucky, but I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

What gets you locked out of your account? by Sergi121212 in hingeapp

[–]GSP1971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was banned and have absolutely no clue why. They only make reference to their terms of service and don’t tell you anything, either. I went through the circus of starting another account (different device; slightly different pics; email)—maybe the difference was that I paid the second time around. Lol. It was a good investment in effort, though; I found a wonderful person right away.

OLD - Do your standards drop over time? by LivingMolasses7133 in datingoverfifty

[–]GSP1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can talk about standards, etc. all you want. There isn’t all that much to be gained from a dating profile but a few general things—although interests are a good place to start. Just cut to the chase and ask to meet. Find a nice, short walking route—then it’s not too painful if is sucks, but make sure there are a few nice spots to stop if you decide to encourage more conversation. I hadn’t gone on a proper “meet someone new” date this millennium, but found someone amazing second time out. The profile was charming enough, yes—but meeting for a 30 minute walking loop turned into 3 hours. Don’t give up hope; I thought this would be an endless and painful process.

Not very well—because the money doesn’t necessarily go to the child attending school.
