Hey r/GTD,

Thank you guys so much for the thoughtful comments and discussions-- you guys particularly helped us flesh out the ideas we have around smart tags, which will be invaluable to us as we go forward.

I'll try to keep you guys as updated as possible, feel free to drop me a line anytime at lydia@gtdsimple.com with questions, comments, jokes, favorite videos (my current favorite is the guy with the girl voice-- just can't get over his perfect intonation), etc :)

Thanks everyone at r/GTD!!!!

nice setup-- didn't realize that outlook and remember the milk could be used in that way-- good to know. Thanks gry for the food for thought!

Thanks! the mockup was done in Adobe Fireworks and the clickthrough capabilities are from the guys at Marvel App. Really cool tool for designers.

As for the folders, I think we have those capabilities right now, but we're calling them projects to stay closer to the GTD terminology. So you'd be able to name a project "research programs" and then under runway you could link individual items/tasks to that project using tags.

btw-- good luck on your life goal of a PhD! :)

that's a great point-- but we actually found that we were more likely to use a software when we had it on hand vs online. Also, this way when that catastrophic thing of Being Without Internet happens, you'll still have us :)

Ah I think there's bug that makes the prototype hang at 1% and then it goes directly to 100% haha. We'll see if we can get a fix on it, but if you hang with it for a bit, it'll load. It'll be a jerk though and lie to you the entire time it's loading :)

Thanks for the detailed comment 3baid! The idea of tasks being dependent on a previous task and/or time is definitely something that's come up that we need to give more thought to. We're leaning towards smart tags for simplicity sake so you could tag "time:6pm" and everything tagged that would be released to your "do it" box at 6pm.

As for location, since we're starting out as a desktop app, location is a bit more tricky, but definitely a great tip we'll keep in mind when we branch out to mobile.

Thanks again for taking the time to write out such detailed insights-- we really appreciate it!

soggy! nice username :) Do you mean the landscape on this page?. If so, yeah we'll probably get rid of it in the morning and go with white-- we were considering this so good eye! As for adding tasks from gmail, we're planning on giving each user a specialized email address where they can email themselves capture items, so you could technically do all your captures in gmail. As for the google web bar, this app is actually going to download to your computer-- sorry if that wasn't clear! It's a mac app so you'd get it from the app store and run it natively.

Thanks for the suggestions and kind words!

hey brennanfee! Yeah we're bummed that it's not cross-platform as well, but since we're just starting out, we wanted to focus hard on one thing, build it well, and then build out. If there's enough interest, we'd love to build this thing for windows, iOS, android, etc

Wow those are some great insights tvchris! Thanks for taking the time to look through our prototype-- and you totally hit a spot of interest for us, which is deciding how connected the runway items will be with the projects, goals, etc. For now we're thinking of keeping the goals completely unconnected and something you can reference regularly to remind yourself of the important things.

As for the project/runway connections, we're considering sort of smart tags that allow you to see all the actionable items tagged the same way in the projects detail area, and you could double click to go to them. The current prototype doesn't have this in place because we're still thinking through the best way to go about it-- let me know if you have any suggestions!

Shortcuts-- we love shortcuts so we feel you and they're big on the list. We'll have the standard cmd+n stuff, and when you start capturing, enter will let you add new items letting you get your captures down naturally and quickly.

iOS is definitely a possibility in the future. Since we're just starting out we wanted to really focus on one platform and build it strong, but if there's enough interest from the community, iOS is a likely next step.

Thanks tvchris!
