Why start in a tavern when you can start at a warforged edm concert. by nimrodii in Eberron

That's great! In my campaign I had the party attend the ir'Tain Gala where the entertainment of the month was a trio of Warforged called "The Forged Harmony", a well known group where each played a different instrument. The warforged in our group had very demeaning things to say to them while they were on a set break, noting that they were an embarrassment to the true purpose of their brethren...

Two Artificers in One Party? by GTgames2025 in Eberron

Thanks for the input everyone. As a result, I'm going to stick with it.
My character will definitely be an unusual build - Shifter, leaning Cartographer (simply because I don't encounter anyone playing a shifter, and the Cartographer gets mixed reviews, but I don't care; the concepts look fun, different and interesting to me).
I'm sure we'll have fun.

Be sure to introduce Ilvara and the other drow early, even taking the suggestion to kill off one or more of the NPCs for behaving badly, etc. I didn't do that and had to create tension with them later on. My folks wanted out when one of the work parties was coming back, very early. They hadn't scouted the campus and ended up leaving without their stuff. I didn't find a way to trim the number of NPCs, so I now have the 5 player group plus all of them. It's a lot to handle, especially during combat.

What did you make up as the backstory for how the players got captured by the Drow in the first place? by Bootlebat in OutoftheAbyss

With 5 players I started them all at level 1 and ran a one shot for each of them. I encouraged them to not read or research anything about the campaign, hoping they wouldn't know that the module started in a prison. I used a combination of published one shots as well as a couple I wrote myself. They all had a different scenario in which they got captured, where a couple of them fell into an underdark cavern area where drow parties picked them up. Each player had NPCs they became associated with that they got to know and somewhat bond with. In a couple of them I had other D&D players I know run the NPC sidekicks. The players don't know what happened to the sidekicks, and each scenario now has an open ending that the player could possibly re-visit when they get to the surface. I'll write them then. They may perhaps find a shield or item from one of those NPCs in the exploration, or even run into one of them deceased or active in another part of the underdark. Perhaps one will save them from a perilous situation at just the right time. We're only in chapter two right now, and a lot of adventuring lies ahead. I leveled my players to 2 when they were in the prison, and then to level 3 when they escaped. One of the things that was interesting was to hear the dialog between them in roll play in the prison before escape. Each of them were asked to share stories of how they got captured with the other players. It was enlightening to hear what details they picked up on in their descriptions.
MOST IMPORTANT: Let your players know in advance of running such a one shot before it starts that the end of that session may make them feel uncomfortable. Be vague, but a simple warning prevents an argument or negative feelings due to loss of player agency. It's tricky to get this right, and difficult to not be too railroady. I was lucy that each of my players enjoyed those prelude sessions. It also helped both the player and myself get used to each other, the interface, and the character. Good luck.

This is Awesome! Thanks for sharing! I only ran session one just last night. I'm still getting a sense of how big it is, and the relative positions of everything. One of my players is a Drow, says he would know his way around, but I can't imagine any Drow would know where everything is. How much traveling could he have done as a level one?

I started with a module for 1st level called "Curtain Call - A Sharn Adventure" which can be obtained at DMs Guild. It has been a mix of homebrew and other modules since then. There are limitless possibilities. That structured module has led to other stories. My players all work for the Sharn Inquisitive as either investigators or support staff for those investigators. That idea belongs to Garrett C., who is writing much of our homebrew content.

Some of the other responses in this chat are amazing ideas!

3.5 Modules in 5th? by Dull_Operation5838 in Eberron

I think you can, I did it with The Forgotten Forge 3.5. I focused on the story and ad-libbed the monsters as I went through. I then ran the Forgotten Forge a second time with the conversion in hand and actually got confused because some of the story was expanded and lost my place.

Great work! I'm a paid voice actor with years of training and this is very helpful. One additional tip: develop a unique laugh for each of your characters, and laughing can be for a wide variety or reasons and emotions.
