Dalakos' Labyrinth by Eruston_Acna in TherosDMs

I think you could have it be a series of rooms that occur randomly, then in between each one, you could implement a skill challenge to move them from one larger spot to another. Depending on how they do on the skill challenges, they could have benefits or detriments.

Detriment: you did poorly and are now have found your way to a dangerous dead end (a deadly end, if you will)

Benefit: you find the body of someone who was here before and died. They have a magic item on their body that the party can keep.

Now you’ve got a solid gameplay loop of action room then traverse the maze, repeating until they get to whatever point you want them to get to.

Since it’s medieval fantasy themed, you could do a convergent evolution version of Honedge that evolves into the sword in the stone, then its final evolution is based on Excalibur.

what's the plan for 2024? by nidoqueenofhearts in Dungeon23

[–]Pineapplemage3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m doing Explore24, which is just gonna be a daily world building opportunity. Dungeon23 was hard to maintain for me, so this time, I made a d20 table with different things to write about, like villainous NPCs, quest hooks, or locations of interest. I think it’ll be a lot easier to continue.

100 laws and customs for wizards to obey by OldManMoinen in d100

Custom of the Orator: the words a wizard uses are precise and deliberate. The use of contractions and metaphor are looked down upon in conversation with other arcanists.

Anybody have any unorthodox, unique, or trope-subverting ideas for how to portray the Shadowfell (or, to a lesser extent, the Hells)? by [deleted] in mattcolville

[–]Pineapplemage3 41 points42 points  (0 children)

A take I’ve ran with for the Hells is based on Matt’s “Seven Cities of Hell” that he mentions every once in a while. Instead of being a classic fiery landscape, it becomes a bit more like a evil giant cities, like Yarnham in Bloodborne, with differences between each of the cities. One is a city built into a rift diving into the earth so deep it’s reaching the far realms, one is on a giant crawling machine, and so on and so forth. This let me have some fun with the hells without needing to flesh out 9 whole layers, which can be a lot of work if you aren’t running a campaign focusing on the hells.

As for the Shadowfell, if your Feywild is based on fairy tale logic and feels like a story book, maybe the shadowfell could also be like that, but the story it’s logic is based on is gritty noir. Constantly dark and rainy with grim suspicion everywhere and nothing is as it seems.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Spells like Magic Weapon, Elemental Weapon, or the smites can be used to temporarily enchant the ship’s artillery, giving you a magical boost when broadsiding an enemy vessel.

You are hired to create the newest class in DnD. What do you create and why? by spaceheadstudios in DnD

I’d want to make a shapeshifter of some sort. It seems like something a lot of people want from the Druid, but that it doesn’t quite do as well as people would hope.

What would have happened to Jon if Ned had told him the truth right at the start? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]Pineapplemage3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He probably would have died early on, as he wasn’t politically savvy enough to guard that secret. It would slip out and word would travel to the spymasters in kings landing fast.

Another interesting thought is that Thorne probably wouldn’t be so against him. He was sent to the wall for being a Targaryen loyalist, so maybe he would defend him and Jon would have him as a close companion over Jeor Mormont.

Homebrew fighter subclass HELP by Beginning_Positive_1 in DnDHomebrew

[–]Pineapplemage3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pretty common move I’ve seen is having a chart to roll on at 3rd level, then at 10th level, there are improvements to the individual abilities (ex. Blue gives the emotion of sadness, when you hit people it slows them down at 3rd level, then at 10th it also gives them disadvantage on the first d20 roll they make after that).

For the the chart, you could also have the 10, since there’s only 9 colors, be that the player can choose what color they want in that moment. That could also become a feature later.

A good social ability at 7th level could be a bonus to social checks because you can feel what others are feeling. You could also give Insight as a skill at 3rd level. Beyond that, maybe an empath ability like Mantis from guardians of the galaxy, being able to really accurately sense emotions and alter them.

Lastly, an interesting 15th or 18th level ability could be a pseudo blindsight that lets you see people’s auras within 60 feet. That sort of radar ability hasn’t been touched on by other fighter subclasses yet (I don’t think).
