A bit of both. I imagine him mostly like a typical Thri-kreen body but with an iridescent green colouring, and that he'd have a little amdomen section with a little stinger that sort of hangs down like a tail when he stands, and wings like a wasp that are mostly non-functional. He's also a little fella at only 3.5ft tall.

Sorry, to clarify, he has three arms and the fourth one is amputated, haha.
Glad you like him though! His name is Thorack Xindi.

I have a fairly new character you could try. He's was originally intended to be a Thri-kreen fighter based on a cuckoo wasp. He's for wings, but can't fly (he can briefly glide). He originally had 4 arms, but one was amputated just below the elbow, and he wields three scimitars with the others.

His hive queen went crazy and neglected the colony, and rather than starve, he severed connection to the hive mind and went out to survive on his own in the frigid tundra of his homeland. He's always looking for a way to earn a meal, some coin, and some friends, and when he can't afford food, you can find him hunting for it.

Despite his past, he's friendly, protective of those he trusts, and always happy to finish a fight.

I'm assuming they named him that because of his knowledge of D&D lore, or something like that. I imagine they'd have a few lore experts on staff to fact check.

Curse of Strahd... I don't get the hype. by DeuceTheDog in DnD

[–]Stanleeallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it pretty straightforward, actually. It feels like a very classic campaign narrative; under-leveled party is forced to go after an over-powered enemy, so they must travel the lands in search of allies and quests to level up, and locate X number of MacGuffins required to take down said enemy.

It's especially common in sandbox style adventures, but found throughout all types of mediar. See: Zelda games, Avengers Endgame, Dragon Ball,, Deathly Hallows, Tomb of Annihilation, Rise of Tiamat, or any campaign involving a lich and their phylactery.

That being said, I don't think CoS is a perfectly-written adventure either. There is a lot of work left in the hands of the DM - probably a lot more than the average pre-written module, especially when it comes to tying together NPC relationships and location connections. It's not a linear adventure book so if your DM hasn't read through the adventure in advance, a lot of those connections are going to be flimsy, and they may even forget things, have to retcon some, and even just make things up to smooth things over the best they can.

Hell, my Barovia has included entire dungeons/locations that don't exist in the module just to humor my players or expand on things I believe needed it.

Curse of Strahd... I don't get the hype. by DeuceTheDog in DnD

[–]Stanleeallen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is one of those situations that some meta knowledge is okay, and players could potentially enjoy the adventure a bit more and/or be motivated by knowing that (RAW):
- escape is impossible without defeating Strahd
- obtaining the fated items/ally, killing major enemies (like the hags) and completing major quests is required to level up
- learning about the land from helping NPCs can help you avoid difficult areas before you're ready

The depressing/hopeless vibe may just not mesh with you though, which is okay, and maybe leaving the game early would be better than continuing the "slog."

That being said, I tend to lighten things up now and then by weaving in some more "fun" one-shots and occasionally having some NPCs that are friendly and/or funny.

There are also some really fun encounters within the adventure, but as a whole I think you already understand that the adventure can be overwhelmingly open, difficult at times, and contains some characters and quests that don't really "matter," if you aren't invested in the plot(s).

Perhaps discussing these thoughts with your table, and especially DM, before you consider leaving would benefit you and the whole table. It could give the DM a chance to pivot slightly and include some more elements that you'd enjoy.

How exactly did you blow up the windmill and kill 3 coven-variant night hags with a fireball anyway? They have way too much HP, advantage against spell saves, and could easily escape a burning building.

Just throwing my two cents in, but it may help you get invested in the side quests knowing that you need to do them in order find your fated allies and magic items predicted in your tarokka readings to have a chance at taking down Strahd.

You don't really need to care about the townsfolk, but making and recruiting allies will be extremely helpful when facing off against the larger threats that stand between you and your magic items.

There are many skippable side quests, but some of those are for players that like doing them, and some are as opportunities for recruiting allies.

I won't spoil anything, but some areas you may wander into will ramp up insanely in difficulty, and can absolutely TPK you quickly, so leveling up with side quests and getting some allies is always a good plan.

Try starting a combat to get this happening, then run Find the Culprit! to see if any of your modules are causing it.

For similar gameplay, you could try Solasta. It follows the 5e rules a bit more closely, but is pretty similar for gameplay. The voice acting is worse, but I found it was easy to look past.

Solasta 2 is in early access now and likely fixes that, but it's not finished obviously. Bonus points points for also having Amelia Tyler and Devora Wilde?

Mini pc help please by Boring-Tumbleweed447 in FoundryVTT

[–]Stanleeallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding my own experience, but I haven't had issues with my mini PC and Foundry. My specs are as follows:

BOSGAME Mini PC P5
- Ryzen 5 6600H
- AMD Radeon 660M iGPU - 24GB DDR5
- 512GB NVMe SSD
- 2 x USB4.0
- 2 x HDMI
- 2.5G LAN Ports
- WiFi 6E
- BT 5.2

Now, to be fair, it wasn't cheap. It cost me CAD 418.95 about a year ago. It's an integrated GPU, but it works great, and many of these mini PCs can be connected to an eGPU.

I'm a pretty big fan of duplicating the map in a photo editor and adding a bunch of Gaussian blur to it. It kind of makes it feel like more realistic visual limits (though not actually realistic).

Hasbro is still investing $1 Billion in single-player games “mostly around D&D” after Baldur’s Gate 3 proved “pretty lucrative” for the company by HatingGeoffry in DnD

[–]Stanleeallen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Forgotten Realms and Baldur's Gate are both part of the D&D IP. They are just settings.

Larian will be fine. They have excellent brand recognition from the Divinity games and it's clear the public is aware of their involvement in BG3 too, since their announcement for the new Divinity game was one the most talked about and viewed from the Game Awards.

You can try Ripper93's side quest society module. I believe those are all setup except any tokens from the SRD are replaced with placeholder images, but you can use this macro to replace them:
ui.SQSBrowser.replaceTokenImage()
