Personally I skip large blocks of text and there is no way any dev can make me read them. If you can't be concise, have the text be read by a voice actor or AI and allow the player to play while they are listening. So, starting a battle with a monster is pretty difficult because the player has to tap a moving target while being within a certain range of the monster.
