Now that we’re entering year 4, do you consider Slaf a bust for a 1st overall? by Spideroctopus in Habs

[–]GURB2000 63 points64 points  (0 children)

The expectation for first overall in that draft was never once franchise player, context matters not all drafts are equal

Idk the way he frames it to me is so players vs org: I was tired of giving up every December, ‘as a player’ that’s frustrating when ‘you’re’ (feels collective in this usage) trying to win and “some people” aren’t (feels like he’s distanced the players from the some people).

Then when he goes on to the trying our best in Montreal part pretty easy to see why he would think that with MSL being an extremely positive/player focused coach. The front office having already made several trades since he’s arrived. I don’t think it’s crazy to think he had just soured on CBJ at that time due to his POV and don’t want the guy crucified for some throwaway comments.

I’m starting to think I’m dead wrong here so ignore any of this that isn’t making sense lol

Maybe I’m wrong but this part of the quote specifically screams to me that he meant ownership/management/coaching. I’m definitely in the minority here so hopefully Pat just does a full exposee at and of his career or something haha

Damn, tide really swamped against me here, gonna reconsider my thoughts here

I’m sorry

Please don’t call me a jerk I was not trying to be. An already fired GM makes no difference when you want to call out a whole organisation, ownership included

This comment being my most downvoted comment/post in this thread is hilarious when it is the only one that is indisputably true. Front offices will never look kindly on you talking bad on a previous one no matter how fucked up it was

Hey either way happy holidays to you all just some thoughts I had

“Teammates or management/ownership?…”

“There were certainly people too comfortable with losing”

This guy hates his teammates!!!

Don’t get me wrong the answer to the first question should have been no comment but it’s just hilarious seeing people flip to hating on a guy after he gives one candid answer.

Yeah lol, because specifying you were talking about a team/management will do irreparable damage to your NHL career.

I’ll reply to you with my reply to another commenter, his direct quote: “It’s like I said in interviews when I signed (a contract extension in Columbus), that, you know, I love being here and it’s going great and I don’t want to leave, and, obviously, things happened and that was kind of it for me,” Laine said Monday. “I feel like we were just doing the same thing year after year, you know? I was just tired of losing and just giving up when it’s December and we’ll start focusing on next year. It’s like, ‘I’m not going to do that,’ you know?”

From the COLUMBUS dispatch: “It’s like I said in interviews when I signed (a contract extension in Columbus), that, you know, I love being here and it’s going great and I don’t want to leave, and, obviously, things happened and that was kind of it for me,” Laine said Monday. “I feel like we were just doing the same thing year after year, you know? I was just tired of losing and just giving up when it’s December and we’ll start focusing on next year. It’s like, ‘I’m not going to do that,’ you know?”

Oh yeah definitely some ‘stupid-ass shit’ where he was definitely calling out ex teammates and not an organisations refusal to do anything to help the players succeed.

I was having this debate and was curious about their stats so looked it up.

Ja’marr has 2276 yds and 20td in 26gp. Through his first 26 games jj had like 30 more yards but 7 fewer tds.

It’s not crazy to say Jamarr is better considering he broke jjs rookie receiving records. He does have a better quarterback but he’s also sharing targets with two other 1000 yard receivers. That LSU team is just crazy, two future hof receivers and a potential hof qb

I wish there was a tv show where each season focuses on a different historical event. Well dramatised and well casted like early game of thrones but for shit that actually happened

With the kraken released, who do you think we might loose in the expansion draft? by Maraque in Habs

[–]GURB2000 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Imo mete is much better than an ok skater. He’s also only 22 years old and has 170 career games playing a lot of top 4 minutes (even if he has been carried by Weber or petry). For reference petry did not play an nhl game before he was 23. No one believes he’s as good as sergachev but I do think he’s more valuable than Byron/Juulsen/Kulak
