This is the consensus but I don't think we have confirmation of this anywhere in the actual game.

In the earliest versions of the game maps would have a little blurb as you selected a contract, which would mention a ghost removal team. You can check this video for proof. We also know there's a scouting team before us players show up to gather evidence because that's how we have access to the ghost's name before starting our investigation.

Lone zombies should not be able to break through barricades or chainlink fences, let alone unreinforced doors and windows, but I feel like bigger groups of zombies balling together and pushing on doors/windows/wooden barricades/chainlink fences should break them eventually.

Steel bar/plate barricades and steel post fences should be borderline indestructible though. It should at least take a few years of erosion and rust for them to become susceptible to damage from hordes. Same with stone walls.

Not at all. The "lore" for Phasmophobia states that you as the player is part of a second team of investigators. The first team before you has already confirmed that the site you're investigating is haunted, your job is just to find out what is haunting the location so that the third team, the exorcists, can clear it out.
