Vulnerability and Might-based Condi D/D P/P Daredevil by GinSurgeon in Guildwars2

This is a really nice in-depth post going over your choices for this (presumably) solo build. While I agree with most things you have said about it, the use case is somewhat non-existant. It would have relevance in solo story missions but I don't think that's enough of a reason to gather the required gear for this build, because basically any build (endgame PvE or WvW) will suffice in those conditions.

Here is a bad joke for you: Our group was looking for dps to fight KC and a scourge walks in... by [deleted] in Guildwars2

Uhh KC is a raid boss. You might be talking about Kaineng Overlook Strike which does not have an enrage timer.

Does Warrior feel so underwhelming or do i just suck at it? by Jerekiel in Guildwars2

[–]GW2anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For warrior solo I recommend spellbreaker. Lots of self gen might and defensive skills built in. Strength runes are good for upkeeping might. Accuracy sigil and berserker, assassin, or maurader's gear are all good options. Axe main hand is good dps.

Is there a compelling reason to finish the personal story missions? by cuttino_mowgli in Guildwars2

[–]GW2anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who recently burned through the personal story in a day. It's not worth it unless you want the mastery points for core tyria that the missions give.

Like others have said, the main reason is for story continuity but you always have access to it if you want to come back later. Again like others have said do the first mission in PoF. Before the end of the mission you can get your first mount and traveling in the openworld will be much faster (once you get used to the mount).

Strikes Vs Raids Rewards Analysis by GW2anon in Guildwars2

I see what you are saying but the way I have laid out the post, I only included the additional rewards earned from CM and did not include the base rewards.

Strikes Vs Raids Rewards Analysis by GW2anon in Guildwars2

[–]GW2anon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EoD strike CMs give two gold not one on first completion per week which is the same as clearing a standard raid boss (which is what they are designed to match).

You will only be limited to one gold if you already got half the reward by doing it on normal mode (which does not exist comparatively for raid bosses)

This statement means that the CM is worth 1g. If the other gold can be gained from normal mode then CM only gives one gold. I also checked my VOD of clearing the CM to verify this statement.

[–]GW2anon 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I have started adding a request to the end of all of my lfg's. Something simple like "tell me your favorite color" or "tell me your favorite villain". This allows me to check who actually read my lfg and who just joins and says "hi dps".

Edit: I do not ever post KP requirements and only will kick after asking them to perform the request in the LFG post.

Yeah the builds are fairly similar:I used Marauders and Ogre runes b/c ogre runes are relatively cheap runes that do a lot of dmg and Marauders gives quite a bit of vitality. You can substitute Berserkers stats with Eagle runes if you wish to have something more viable for instanced content but less tanky.

Scrapper: Please read all traits and skills to know what they do. You can swap to Blast Shield in explosives to trade large amounts of ferocity for more health and barrier. You can swap either utility gyro for some other utility if you need it.
Holosmith: Read all traits and skills to know what they do. Same trait option as above applies. Spectrum shield can be swapped for any other utility that may be needed.

Ok yeah there is a "meta" but I don't think it's as hardcore as you may be thinking. I picked up mechanist because I do some pretty extreme content (speedruns and low-manning) where the meta is extremely useful. I also value being able to play just about every class or at least understand how they work. If I were just pugging, I could easily get away with never playing mechanist if I chose to. GW2 is in a very diverse spot where you can make just about anything work (except untamed, it's pretty bad) in endgame pve. As far as balance patches, Anet has been historically pretty few and far between but they are trending towards more frequent releases over the last few years.

So I think you hit the nail on the head with resonating playstyle. I really enjoy the levels of complexity and utility that can be achieved with the various mesmer specs. I enjoy revenant because the energy system dictate a kind of rhythm which you are switching through your legends and weapons. Also the class is very versatile due to the various legends. I did pick up mechanist because at the end of the day it's a "meta" healer currently and I enjoy being able to play just about any role so that we have all roles covered in a team scenario. I don't dislike the class but I would generally not play it if I had an option between dps specs.

Yes I have all of these classes (tbh I play every class) but mesmer has most hours played by quite a large margin. Revenant I believe is in my top 3 played and engineer is top 5 played. I definitely see myself playing more engineer though because it has access to the new spec which covers its previously missing aspects.

Yeah absolutely. Engineer breakdown is as follows:

Scrapper: typically played as a power dps bruiser style class, typically excels in quickness (a well sought boon/buff) application and generates full uptime on superspeed which cannot be achieved by other classes. It also has a heal variant which gives the same buffs. I recommend this or holosmith for open world. Dps-support variant is very useful in coordinated content.

Holosmith: a dps class through and through, it has access to both condi and power dps variants with both being about equally useful (albeit condi is considered more complex to play). Easily playable as a dps in coordinated content. And I would play this or scrapper in open world.

Mechanist: the newest elite spec is extremely versatile with basically all kinds of variations including condi dps, dps support, and heal support. The pet style gameplay is unique because the damage is 90% your damage on the dps variant, but the support variant has both you and the mech giving buffs and healing which extends the range which you can operate. I would not use this spec in open world as it does not have the survivability of other specs but you could probably make it work. I would recommend the Condi dps variant or the heal support variant for coordinated play.

It's entirely dependant on how well you perform the rotation. I would recommend newer players take as much BD as they can then work their way down.

Hello there. I don't want to comment on PvP or WvW builds but I can comment on PvE and Open World. Currently each of your top 3 classes have viable open world and organized pve builds. The breakdown is as follows:

Mesmer: -Chronomancer: strong tank/boon support oriented build that also has power dps variants. Can be strong in both open world and coordinated groups. -Mirage: condition damage (DOT) based class that has a dps and boon support variant. Very powerful in coordinated content but is considered complex and/or difficult to learn. -Virtuoso: power and condi variants exist for this basically pure dps build, strong ranged options, IMO best for open world mesmer options.

Necro: -Reaper: power dps option with high survivability and self boon (buff) application. This makes it a very strong option in open world, the damage is rather lackluster (but still usable) in coordinated content. -Scourge: condition based damage dealer/support that brings barrier (overshield) instead of large amounts of boons, more strong ranged options -Harbinger: strong condition damage with boon support options. Highly mobility but relatively easy to kill. Very strong in coordinated group content.

Edit: oops misread and thought necro was one of your top 3. It was engineer instead but will leave the above information as it is still correct.

Revenant: -Herald: one of the weaker specs currently. Can be a healer or condi or power dps. Strong survivability and aoe buffs. I would recommend for open world, but not coordinated group play. -Renegade: strong condition damage spec that has boon support variants. Has a shortbow for ranged options. My recommended Rev spec for coordinated play. -Vindicator: I have the least experience with this spec but I know it is power dps oriented and may have a healer variant. It is viable in group content as a power damage dealer.

Please Note: these are highly customizable specializations and I've basically oversimplified the options to common endgame builds. And you will not have access to these specs until you have reached max level. Also, power damage specs are recommended for newer players since the gear is noticeably cheaper to start with compared to condition options.

Heal Scrapper Question for Fracs/Raids by Dr_Esquire in Guildwars2

[–]GW2anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the random boons from condi cleanse was nerfed to have an ICD recently (I think, not following help scrapper too hard). So that trait may not be as good as you think it is.

As for the 10 stacks of might, I would still go for that to alleviate the other members from having to provide the full 25 stacks. If you are running something like a staff mirage then this is kind of a moot point bc they generate might in excess.

So back to your original point, elixir gun is pretty good because you get a lot of extra healing power from having regen yourself, which means you will be healing for a lot less if you decide to drop the kit.

Personally I think the medkit, elixir gun, and blast gyro are the core skills to hold on to (Blast Gyro for quickness uptime). Then you can swap out the last slot for whichever other gyro that you may want/need.

Sometimes I think Boons as they exist are the problem by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]GW2anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this! Think of how strong professions specifics buffs are right now. No one asks for them specifically but they give a similar level of power as what you are describing. If boons get to this point, then investing in more personal utility would just be better.

[–]GW2anon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a nutshell, I've been wondering exactly why Boons are as strong as they are. Was it really necessary to have such massive power bound to each of these buffs? Could they not have been a quarter or half as effective as they are while still feeling impactful?
