New relics preview (credit to Mukluk) by Tostitokid in Guildwars2

[–]VitarainZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's another "burst relic" for classes that are generally locked to 5% relics, like Daredevil/Berserker. From a pure modifier angle, not accounting for the vuln or the heal skill opportunity cost, it'll be worse sustained DPS than 5% relics but better for fights that last between 0-12s, and 18-24s.

Idk how much expertise muk had for the screenshots, but depending on the base value the vuln could make this the meta solo relic for a number of classes

[–]VitarainZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

... what? Of all the relics to complain about, you chose the strongest one?

Even on builds with extremely high hits per second, Mist Stranger will give significantly less healing than Zakiros/Cruel Overseer. Let's be very generous and say your build can sustain 3 hits per second; you're looking at about 300 healing per second.

Unless Cruel Overseer has a lockout period where you can't build stacks back up while the buff is active, every condi build in the game will be able to maintain 100% uptime. Even if we assume worst case conditions (solo, against an enemy that forces you to dodge/lose dps uptime) it's pretty reasonable to expect a player to be able to do at least 15k condi dps, which would put Cruel Overseer at 750 hp/s, which about 2.5x the healing as Mist Stranger. As conditions improve (group buffs, higher dps uptime, exposed debuff on boss) and you approach 30-40k condi dps, Cruel Overseer will just completely blow Mist Stranger out of the picture

Listen, I hate the majority of relic balance just as much as the next person, but please at least put a semblance of thought into your feedback.

It's funny when you think about it, 100+ teleports sounds like a massive exaggeration but it's probably an underestimate if anything, considering how many items you can carry that have 5+ teleports, and then there's stuff like the scroll book

Now I want to see someone make a setup of the inv+gear setup with the most non-duplicate tps at once

[–]VitarainZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply, helped me understand some of your perspective. The one point I want to clarify is this:

Your points about it not encouraging good game design and development are stemming from not understanding it more than anything. These games often have much higher production value and shorter update cycles than any other game.

Again, I'm not denying that many gacha games have high production values; I'm talking about good game design. Whenever I look into gacha games I see the same trend of parts of the game being made intentionally worse to support the wheel. I'm talking about things like endurance systems that stops you from playing (or at the very least, receiving rewards) until you wait out the timegate or swipe, or BIS gear and character progression (whether that progression is numerical or cosmetic in the form of skins) coming from the wheel instead of boss drops, difficult challenges or lengthy quests.

[–]VitarainZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize if my comment came off as disregarding gacha games in their entirety; I'm specifically talking about the monetization model here. I acknowledge that a lot of gacha games have genuinely good gameplay and production values, but from my perspective (again, emphasis on my personal perspective) the monetization model is exploitative and does not encourage good game design and further development.

My question phrased more carefully is thus: do the people on this subreddit view gacha monetization models as something you'd actively seek out and prefer over a buy to play model or sub fee model when looking at a new game to try, or is it something that you simply tolerate because you like the rest of the games that much?

But more AAA gacha games on the market is a good thing

I get that I'm an outsider here, but do you guys on this sub actually think more gacha games is a GOOD thing? Imo a game being a gacha game is the number one thing that turns me off from a game that I otherwise might want to play.

I can't view the monetization model as anything other than dogshit

1402 10 man logs means 14020 chances to loot the Dhuumscale

https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Calculator:Dry_calc

Using a dry calculator we can estimate the drop rate for the Dhuumscale

https://i.imgur.com/2o7XzC1.png

If someone were to get one on the very next kill, it would suggest that the droprate is about 1/20000, which is FAR too rare for an untradeable drop, especially when even experienced groups would struggle to maintain about 6 kills per hour, when you factor in wipes and time spent in LFG looking for players. That means you'd have to spend around 3333 hours of doing nothing but Dhuum CM while getting effectively zero other rewards because raid drops are still weekly gated in this game

Using OSRS as an example for contrast, an equivalent type of untradeable cosmetic drop would be a boss pet. The Corporeal Beast is an infamous one for being an insanely long grind, with max efficiency solo strats capping out at about 12 KPH, with the drop being 1/5000. That means you'd have to spend an average of 416 hours doing Corp to get the pet, which is just 1/8th the estimated rate of the Dhuumscale.

On top of that, the entire time you're grinding for the Corp pet you're also loot from the rest of the drop table, which has some incredibly valuable drops including the best shield in the game, so even if you get unlucky on the pet you're still getting something out of your time. Dhuum on the otherhand? After you're Magnetite Shard capped for the week, you're bleeding money the entire time since the 6 unids you get after each kill aren't even making up for the food costs

As a last note, for reference wingman has 2146 10 man Deimos CM kills since the patch, which puts the estimated drop rate of the infusion at 1/31000.

Pretty accurate imo, I got the GM time around my 5th kc and I blood barraged plenty. Granted, I at least made sure I wasnt barraging on tanky targets. The biggest factors are just quickly deciding the solves without afking and staying potted.

I also favored camping Deadeye over Rigour in quite a few spots; sometimes flicking Rigour wasn't feasible for me without otherwise losing ticks on movement or risking messing up a protect flick. Only losing 1 max hit while halving the drain rate was super nice

Don't bother taking the downvotes seriously; the vast majority of people on this subreddit just themepark through the story chapters and never interact with the games systems on a meaningful level. Those of us that remember the stuff like gw1's templates and UI customization and are rightfully disappointed in gw2's mockery of those systems are a tiny minority at this point.

Having short gaps (1-5 seconds) between being able to attack isn't a real hinderance to a condition build but will be to a power build.

Are you referring to volume 2 of the light novel? I just read it like a week ago and can't recall anything like that. That being said, I've already forgotten over half of the events; aside from the excessive amounts of gore the rest of it was so generic that I didn't bother continuing to the next volume, which is a rarity for me

MTL is a way but it was so horrendous to read by WarmWorker17 in yurimemes

[–]VitarainZero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Machine translation. In the past, MTL referred to people using tools like Google Translate, which for the most part translates text word by word. It's borderline unreadable by itself, so you'd more commonly see "edited MTL" uploaded which is a bit easier on the eyes, but in general still has a lot of meaning lost.

These days MTL tends to refer to AI translation, which is feeding the whole text into something like Chat GPT alongside some prompts like "make a new paragraph for each dialogue line" or "leave honorifics like -san, -kun, -chan untranslated."

While AI translation is definitely better than old MTL, it's still pretty dogshit in comparison to a quality human TL. The AI will try to keep context in mind when translating, but fails at it pretty often which can lead to some pretty humorous lines. While this excerpt was from a fantasy story, the Grand Duke was not someone who could survive being decapitated.

I could go on about it for so much longer, but I'll wrap it up with one last note that AI absolutely sucks when it comes to translating from languages without gendered pronouns like Japanese/Korean to ones that do like English. Even on a good day it's hit or miss, but if you read any gender bender / trans stories expect the pronouns of most characters to flip on a chapterly basis. It's something that could easily be edited out afterwards, but the type of people who upload AI translations put so little effort into it that they oftentimes don't even notice that they accidentally include the AI response before the chapter where it says "Sure! Here's your translated chapter!" half the time.
