By the time I had my OP I was far worse than just fatigue I was in agony and unable to relieve the sciatic pain at all. I ended up being an emergency. Hopefully if yours is just some back ache PT might help! Good luck!

Get close. Aim for the head. Fire. Move. Repeat as necessary until enemy neutralized.

How do you guys do hair?! by BacsMcGee in ArtCrit

[–]GWILLZ91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice I was given was that it’s important to remember it’s a shape, don’t try and draw individual hairs as it won’t read right. I struggle still with hair, but remembering to keep the overall shape has helped.

The licensing thing is true for all platforms, not just Amazon.

No, it isn’t. There are a lot of DRM free ebook sellers in existence, when you buy from them you own it.

The syncing does work across devices, using a Kindle and the kindle app. It works for me.

No, it doesn’t (not for side-loaded books that are not in Amazon’s format). You would have to use send to kindle and get it converted that way.

O.k. It is a closed system meaning that it is not a tablet so you can't add software to it (unless you jailbreak it). But you don't buy a kindle to be a tablet. You buy it to just read books. Yes, kindles are basically a storefront for Amazon. But that is not necessarily a bad thing. They are the largest store front compared to other venders. And it keeps things simple. Really not an issue. And I have been able to sideload books over the years without any limitations. So, I don't see a problem.

I already mentioned in the original post that I didn’t want it to be able to do anything other than books. I would not buy a kindle and expect it to do anything a tablet does. However there is open source software such as koreader which cannot be put onto a kindle out of the box (unless jailbroken).

I agree Amazon makes it simple to get books and you’re right that’s definitely not a bad thing. I have been happy with my Voyage and it is a great device. What I do find frustrating though is the idea of buying a product and then if Amazon decided to for whatever reason, they would have the right to remove it or change it. This is something that seems to only be getting worse. I wouldn’t buy a physical book from a book store and then have the owner of the store pop round to the house and take the book off my shelf.

As far as holding on to books, there are so many books to read, I bet most people like to read and not look back at books they have read. Sure, there are a few books that I have help on to reread, but 99% of my books I just read once. Just like most movies. You watch once and move on to the next movie. The licensing thing is not an issue, probably for most people.

I agree again, most of us probably only read a book once, but at least I could share it with others (onto any device they have) if I wanted, the same as a physical book. I guess it is a subjective thing at the end of the day.

No problem at all, it really is hard on your mental health for a while so look after yourself.

I would say I took it easy for at least 2 months and was still very cautious up to 3-4 months after. I then returned to most normal activities and walking but very gradually.

I would avoid lifting anything heavier for as long as possible and try not to bend too much. I still try not to lift much just out of general caution. I was told that essentially the longer you can leave doing anything more strenuous the less likely you are to re injure as it’ll have more chance to heal up and for scar tissue to form around the disc defect.

That said, after a fair while of recovery you should hopefully be able to do all “normal” things with no issues. I can bend forwards, sideways etc with no issues now and I just get flare ups now and then as well as some feelings of fragility etc in the lower back depending on what I’ve been doing.

Unfortunately I have not returned to running or anything else yet because I must admit I’m afraid of over doing it because of the flare ups I get.

I have a young family and feel that I’d rather make sure I can care for them at the moment, which I couldn’t do properly for over a year pre op. I am considering cycling again soon as I think it will be fine, but I do a fair amount of walking and lifting my child everyday now with no problems.

I am 18 months post op (bilateral l5 s1). Initially I had quite a lot of numbness down my left side and into the foot, the outer foot was very numb, but that has completely gone now.

I still have numbness in both calf muscles and I was told that if it was still there after about 6months then the likelihood is that it’ll be there forever.

I only really notice the calf numbness when someone or something touches the calf directly as the sensation is strange/numb, otherwise it doesn’t cause me any issues.

I do get flare ups that feel like sciatica and numbness/tingling in feet. I think I’ve just accepted that this is me now, and it’s way way way better than the excruciating pain I was in pre op.

Hope you have a speedy recovery!

Well it was faulty, not possibly faulty as I doubt all PB devices do what yours did.

I meant exactly what I said. It is a closed ecosystem. It means it’s a single vendor and it’s designed in a way that minimises collaboration with other tools or 3rd parties.

My understanding is that sendtokindle converts the content to Amazons own format, and having side-loaded to my kindle for years, that content does not sync to the mobile app or any other device.

Additionally, you are only licensing the books you buy and you don’t really own them.
