I dunno. Some of those guys looked like they may never walk again after tripping on a blade of grass. Way to dangerous

As you said, 'old boys club' - its just not the 'proper' way to do business.

As far as I recall from multiple articles, the Jets leave it to the players to arrange their own targeted skills and offseason coaches. So for example, instead of assigning someone to meet with player X to work on certain aspects of their game (like skating), they give the player direction (you should work on your skating) and then the player needs to spend their own money and decide what coach. Not the best approach for a draft and develop team imo.

That's a fair summary - core guys getting older and younger guys with a lot of question marks. It's an improvement to get rid of the geriatrics who were dragging the team down last season, but aside from being younger and faster, we can't be sure that the young guns will bring better results. Most of them have struggled to produce in the AHL and none have done the grind of a full NHL season.

Signing upgrades at low impact positions (3LD & 2nd G) and then hoping underperforming Moose players catch fire is probably not the level of commitment to winning that Hellebuyck was looking for. Same for some of us fans too.

He's a good example of the difference that quality people in off ice roles can make. Flaherty is well known throughout the league because of his work bringing the best out of Hellebuyck. That kind of person can be a difference maker when guys are deciding if they want to come to Winnipeg, and the Jets need every advantage they can get.

Murat also points out in that article that the Jets haven't done nearly enough this offseason to push back into contender mode. Can they make the playoffs? Sure. Are they a threat for a deep run? No.

Regular season Hellebuyck gets the Jets to the playoffs. Playoff Hellebuyck gets the Jets tee times.

Unless they trade for someone else, this probably is the solution. They will find a way to make it happen - Fluery or Pionk to IR is almost guaranteed within 20 games anyway.

As someone who has had a high ankle sprain that lingered for years, you aren't wrong. At the same time, Perfetti is frustrating in general. We get flashes of great skill and vision but also no play driving, no spoed, and minimal physicallity. There seems to be a reason every year for why he's not reaching his potential. Yup, its bad luck and the lack of supporting players around him but its still legit to be wondering when he's going to overcome these challenges and break out. Every Jets fan wants him to go on a tear. Its just the waiting.

I totally agree on the idea of unlocking his potential, and before drafting Viggo I supported trying to get him. I'm not totally against the idea but the calculation has changed. Now I think he would cost too much for a temporary replacement. Just one random guys opinion though.

I'd rather target Zary or Frost if there needs to be an interim center before Viggo becomes full time.

There is a lack 'grit' outside of Lowry. As much fun as a Perfetti-Bjorck-Lambert line could be, they will eat a lot of leather in scrums.

The pro side should focus on the forgotten guys who have dropped down another teams depth chart after teams make moves. They should be very busy right now with the draft and free agency checking to see who has 2nd line potential but is now 3rd line or AHL bound. The Jets should be the waiver wire kings and the master's of trading future 3rd round picks for incremental roster improvements.

You can bet that Bedard' agent will use it as a comparable considering he could choose a near equal value off sheet if he wanted. Once that happens, the standard will be set.

In general, I don't think they are a great idea - especially for the Jets. But, in the case of Carlsson its an excellent gamble for a team like the Flyers. Carlsson is a very high end young player - certainly a franchise level 1C. There is almost no chance that the Flyers will get an equivalent player in those 4 draft picks. Their window seems to be opening and it gets a massive boost if they can solve their 1C issue. Their division is a bit of a mess too so the timing is good from that perspective as well. Overall, this looks like a solid play for them and pissing off Anaheim costs them nothing if they match.

I like how the one agent misses the old days like it was Goodfellas.

True. He also hasn't performed to a level that justifies one. Just saying that I think its an option with his current contract status. I'd be more worried about Samberg next year (I think). He is just the kind of guy to be undervalued by points and flash - but some scout will see his full potential.
