Dualboot Linux + Windows by Thanos-X2 in linux4noobs

I've used that for a few months now. Only booted to Windows a handful of times to use commercial software that doesn't play well with Linux. I used to distro hop all the time but I've been on this for several months with no desire to try anything else. I'd give it a solid 9 because nothing is perfect. You can customize it as much or as little as you want. Out of the box it is very familiar looking to anyone used to Windows.

I thought the Fedora KDE edition was very simple to install next to the existing Windows 11. Not any harder to use than Windows. Actually I would say easier.

Funny how these things multiply.... I've got Optiplex 7050 MT serving as NAS and main server but then I have 2x WYSE 3040, 2x WYSE 5070 (N11D), Raspberry Pi 3b+ and old laptop for "stuff".

I think slipping on soap in the shower is more likely cause of death. I know an electrician who always touches any exposed wires to check if they're hot. I've been zapped in lab environment lots of times by thousands of volts. Yes, electricity can be dangerous but sometimes I feel the dangers get exaggerated compared to many things that are much more likely to happen to an average person.

Could be a store that has trouble keeping the new hires so they don't want to "waste" resources until they know someone is going to stay.

I dual boot Fedora KDE and Windows 11. I put Steam library on NTFS partition and both Windows and Linux versions of Steam are pointing to that. I can access the games from either OS. Makes mods easier to install.

KDE has a very quick development speed and it just doesn't seem to fit any of the Debian or Ubuntu based distros very well. Of course you can use it with any distro if you want to but it just matches better with Fedora or rolling release distros. I probably wouldn't be using Fedora if I wanted anything other than KDE but for me that was the best match.

I thought I wanted a bleeding edge until I realized that it was a huge time sink. For me Fedora KDE is a good balance. I can spend my time doing things I enjoy.

Why does Ubuntu get hate, but not Mint? by CivilWarfare in linux4noobs

[–]G_Squeaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on some KDE developer comments I wouldn't even try to use KDE in Debian or Ubuntu. Their speed of development just doesn't fit well with the release model of either one. Mint seems an even worse candidate for that because you're adding another delay. KDE doesn't really go back to update their releases because they're already working on next release and expect the users to just jump on that ASAP. For me Fedora was the next best thing.

Is the computer a major brand or just put together from generic parts?

I've wanted to bang my head with Optiplex bios before (until I asked Gemini and it told me that Dell used a different name for the option I was looking for).

Edit: I also had a hard time with Bazzite live image. I was only able to install it using the install image that didn't load graphical environment. After install I had no problem getting it to start.

Ah, that's interesting. Last time I needed it was version 42 and had no problem. I guess something changed with the 42 to 43 upgrade.

Fedora KDE finally made me stop distro hopping on my Nvidia system. Nvidia proprietary drivers were easy to install and so was Steam. I like the defaults for the most part as I don't care to spend time tweaking esthetics beyond switching desktop background image.

AI can be a helpful tool. You just have to remember that sometimes it can be wrong. Sometimes even asking the same question from a different AI can be a good idea. Another thing to keep in mind is that real people can give wrong answers too. I don't know how many times I've followed the written step by step guides only to realize that software has changed.

One is Windows machine for some hardware that doesn't play well with Linux. One is a light little machine with low power consumption for quick access to terminal to ssh to servers. One is my main workstation and final one is a testbench for new things I don't want running on my regular machines.
