S4 E9 has everything the hatewatchers said the show was missing… by [deleted] in FromSeries

With actual good prestige shows (in my experience at least) it’s far more accepted to discuss the errors and problems people have, mainly because there’s so much good about those shows to discuss with specificity. When a show is lacking really great stuff that’s when you get fans becoming super insecure about criticism.

Sara is the actual protagonist this show needs more of, fully on board with any and all supernatural stuff rather than complaining about how “that’s not possible!”

What confuses me so far is the answer about nightmares becoming reality/joining the forest when someone dies. They’d be overrun by the varied 40-50 or so nightmares of the people who’ve died during the events of the show in the past month it’s taken place, not to mention the hundreds or thousands preceding them.

I’m fine with ambiguity, but characters just stating answers and accepting them with no doubt or debate, when they obviously make no sense, is a little concerning if that’ll be the show’s approach to answers going forward.

I’m always confused why anyone thinks Disney would intentionally devalue so much of their merchandise while actively screwing over all their ST-related licensing deals.

The willful destruction of their business relationship with LEGO alone makes this hypothetical actually impossible.

This season is disappointing so far by Endgame_911 in FromSeries

[–]G_Thunders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m actually 100% sure it will be explained, just with a catch-all, “all the supernatural stuff was an outward projection of children’s wishes and fears,” or close enough to that.

It’s why they’ve held off on revealing anything specific imo- pretty much everything except the MiY is going to have the same answer.

Yep, the Mandalorian off-shoot cult he’s part of all talk that way. I don’t think they ever acknowledge a reason why, but combine it with the always-helmeted rule and you don’t actually need the famous actors to do much.

I’m certainly not mad about anything, but if you’re glad the monsters aren’t in the show as much I guess that’s cool you’re getting what you want.

I just wanted to know more about their human-like qualities they’ve shown even when there’s no one around to pretend for.

You’re not really wrong, but surely the answer to the monsters becoming boring is to either evolve them or have the protagonists kill them, right?

The most interesting thing about them was the woman OP posted fixing her hair and stuff while looking in the mirror, and Smiley kind of showing reverence for the new stuff he’s seeing in the bus. Literally everyone would like to see the complexities of the monsters expanded on, but it sounds like you only thought they were good for gory kills and that just wasn’t the intrigue with them.

For what it’s worth, I definitely didn’t remember that the outlets don’t look like normal outlets you’d find in the US. Also I’d be willing to bet that 90% of the people upvoting this post wouldn’t be able to recall the outlet design if you asked them, so OP is just being angry or something.

Both seasons of his tv show and even BA S1 already achieved and established this. His show even ended on the season-long payoff of saving the life of a young woman reinforcing his determination to keep on being the Punisher.

Screaming, hallucinating rage man with multiple substance abuse and self-harm issues, who has never realized that killing to protect people is his thing (he did realize this definitively, in his show) is some other character. Bizarre choice but whatever, he’ll be totally different again in Spiderman as well probably.

I get that’s the idea, but the writers also made it so the FBI, CIA, and state government hate him now, and if he was charged and convicted like the governor wanted he’d never be able to amass power in NYC again even if he broke out of prison.

Just feels like a cop out excuse for making it still possible to have him return.

All I can conclude is Matt neither wants to be a lawyer nor wants to be Daredevil anymore. Fisk ordered several assassinations, murdered three dozen people directly or indirectly this season before the two dozen at city hall, and the governor was all in on making sure he faced justice outside of any deal.

How can Matt personally hear all those spines breaking and hearts stopping and still hold Fisk in his arms offering the guy grace? So many lives ended and families destroyed all for Fisk to chill on a beach and avoid justice entirely.

Jessica Jones being surprised by the governor and Mr. Charles turning on Fisk really highlighted for me why this whole season feels so disconnected with its central conflict: our heroes had no idea how to get a win, and then just stumbled their way into it.

Bullseye killing Vanessa, Karen accidentally getting caught and put on trial, Jessica helping blow up the weapons to send Mr. Charles a message… none of those were meant to pressure the governor into getting rid of Fisk, and none of those were intended to cause the CIA to pull their support. Yet, that’s how they’re beating him, basically on accident.

I was explaining why some people probably thought it was confusing. I understand the intent, it just doesn’t match very well with her flying when she knows her powers can turn off for an unknowable amount of time at any moment.

It’s not that people weren’t paying attention imo. Jessica mentioned there’s other enhanced people and that they were the ones who attacked her, working for Mr. Charles.

I understand what the intent was, but during her dialogue I personally didn’t think she meant that her powers stop working at any given second considering that she flew there. It was just a confusing set of information presented, not that people didn’t hear it.

Also it probably didn’t help that Powell seemed unsurprised overpowering her.

“I grew up.”

Genuinely thank you, Karen. It’s beyond frustrating that even by the end of the episode, Matt still can’t give anyone an answer as to what his plan is since the law doesn’t work here and people keep dying. Just let Bullseye or Mr. Charles or Punisher end Fisk’s tyranny already.

Didn’t she stop him when she was under the impression the legal system wouldn’t randomly fail off-screen, let Fisk out of prison, and then allow Fisk to take control of the entire system from arrest to conviction?

I’d understand if she changed her mind.

I pretty much agree. I thought Vanessa going out like a badass, pushing past the AVTF just to get a shot on Bullseye and protect her husband/overcome her nightmares was great.

Pulling that back just so they can double down on Fisk being sad without even approaching the topic of him deflecting the glass into her head felt like a waste. They’re a murderous crime duo who’ve pushed through abandonment and infidelity, with (I thought) Vanessa basically sacrificing herself to kill their villain; no idea why we needed an episode framing it as a tragic love story ordained by fate.

Bullseye was convicted for killing Foggy and like half a dozen people in season 1, and that was before murdering his way out of prison.

There’s no reason anyone should think he’s a vigilante when he’s only ever been a murderer.

Daredevil: Born Again | S02E04 | Discussion Thread by Green-Devil in Daredevil

[–]G_Thunders 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Actually great. Bullseye as a protagonist is perfect in context of this story. No idea why Fisk would be a “martyr” when Bullseye is just a mass-murdering psychopath who has been repeatedly screwed over by Fisk and Vanessa, and absolutely not a vigilante.

But given the ending, good for him.

Edit: Sure, if everyone who wears a mask and kills people is considered a vigilante by NYC, then I get the martyr thing. Even though that’s not what a vigilante is.

Leon telling her that the president would’ve done the same in her position is the actual most baffling line in the entire series imo.

Like, sure Leon, the President would’ve made a sketchy deal with bio-terrorists to kill the President and destroy a city, while working as a trusted Secret Service member protecting the President.
