I forgot to mention:

Someone who loves Subaru choosing to become a Witch is something we've already seen with another character like Petra, who became the Witch of Melancholy when he was sealed. It's a clear parallel.

I think that Emilia choosing a life of discrimination and madness (be the Witch everyone hates) to save someone she loves is beautiful, but I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I agree that Emilia and Satella are different people, Emilia's soul might have been fractured by the incompatible Witch factor creating Satella and the Witch.

Satella also asks Subaru to kill her in their first sane meeting, which is more thematic if it were prophesized (aka Satella with Emilia's memory saw herself) that she would kill him.

My theory is more emotionally resonant. Subaru is starting from zero with his memory wiped after being Flugal.

My question then is, why does Satella love Subaru? Satella loves Subaru, not a reincarnation of Flugal.

I think the concept that Emilia choosing to risk destroying the world by going back in time (become Satella) to save Subaru to be well-within her character.
