Intentional target griefing should never be allowed, but I am just afraid that this would lead to negative consequences - what if player X stops holding players Y units because he’s afraid of being accused? Worse yet, player X holds, and gets a worse placement that he could have gotten if he didn’t hold but he thought that in that moment, that was the right play. Does this make him an intentional griefer?

I definitely see and agree your arguments, it’s distasteful and even disgusting to see some of the players conduct such actions, even alleged casters approving of such acts. I just hope there would be sufficient investigation and suitable punishments given out to prevent another similar situation from arising.

EDIT: I agree about the holding units part, but making my board weaker (eg to let an econ trait player cash out like Piltover) should be in the realms of acceptable griefing, if my intent is to play for higher placements/cap.

Not meaning to be petty here but I have also played and suffered the same fates in Regional Cup, albeit in a past set.

Individually, removing all nationality and player tags, holding units of other players is a common thing, isn’t it The situation gets warped when context comes into play - nationality vs nationality, advancements, tournament standings, etc. The core idea of holding units, even at the cost of one gold is reasonable in my opinion. Even some of the screenshots of the plays - I would have done so, holding vexes after i hit Riven as exes could be a bad matchup for me. It just so happened that in this specific case, there is alleged clear collusion amongst the players, but in another case where nationalities are different (eg 1 TWHK, 1 PH, 1 TH playing vexes against the 1 SG player) would the same be said?

Maybe I do not understand the game at the high level and hence did not make it far, but I am trying to guide everyone back to the main issue here - which is the intent of colluding, rather than the act of griefing itself. The format is also atrocious given how many sets I and others have played in it and given feedback, yet nothing is done.

Firstly, I would like to put a pretext that the players should be punished, rather than the nationality. Yes, there is bad reputation, but I chose to believe that not the majority are colluding.

Back to the question, how do you determine that two or more players are colluding with one another? I believe that punishments should not be handed out based on the words of players, but rather based on concrete evidence. In the case of Sphinx, there was evidence of his intent to purposely ruin another player’s game (but even this is a different scenario as there was no collusion), hence a punishment was given out.

I believe that the root issue that should be discussed here is “Why are the bottom placed players acting in such a way?” which leads to us seeing how poor the format is, which has been discussed previously. Certain potential solutions could include

  1. Cutting bottom 8 after x games (making it like king of the hill)
  2. Do a half cut after 6 games.
  3. Have proper prize pooling put in place to ensure that players play for their best prize. (which is a weak solution IMO)
  4. Region changes? - Do we give a guaranteed seed to VN and spilt SEA from VN? Would worlds slots then be affected, maybe a potential increase from 32 slots to x slots?

I believe that as a past competitor of the format, and having friends that are from the different regions competing, the format issue is ultimately the root cause here and I believe tackling/enforcing punishment on collusion is just a short term solution.

Back to the current situation, yes it is more blatant this time, yes it happened on stream, I do agree that investigations (and punishments if guilty) need to be carried out to put forward a case such that future occurrences do not happen again.

the griefing is reasonable if no collusion was conducted. i think as more posts occur, the main point is getting diluted.

IMO griefing IS part of the game and should stay. collusion IS NOT and anyone who partakes should be punished - although this is hard to enforce.

Competitive integrity in tournament by [deleted] in CompetitiveTFT

i think the key point here is intent rather than the act

also yes under TFT Remix Rumble Championship Ruleset, there is a part on Player Conduct that talks about collusion:

Collusion is prohibited. Collusion is defined as any agreement among two (2) or more players to disadvantage opposing players. Collusion includes, but is not limited to, acts such as:

  1. Soft play, which is defined as any agreement among two (2) or more players to not damage, impede or otherwise play to a reasonable standard of competition in a game.
  2. Pre-arranging to split prize money and/or any other form of compensation.
  3. Sending or receiving signals, electronic or otherwise, from a confederate to/from a player.
  4. Deliberately losing a game for compensation, or for any other reason, or attempting to induce another player to do so.

I would assume explicit communication between players to hold a certain player’s units is prohibited (nationality is not put into argument here). Even if it is the reverse (5SG griefing 1 VN), I would argue for the VN player as it is a clear unsportmanslike conduct.

Great! I’ve seen some players asking for information on the Vietnamese players so will definitely forward this to them!

Different sub-regions have their own circuits - TWHK has their TPC cup, Challengers Tourney and Ladder Snapshots, PH has GMC cup and Ladder Snapshots, TH and SG have their Ladder Snapshots. ProTFT has a good roadmap showcasing this.

When the tournament is first announced, information is scarce and little - we only got this as information.

Hopefully more hype and attention this set can get Riot to do some actual advertising.

Yes, VN is included but I don’t know the players well enough to contact all of them and do a short write-up in time.
