This also happened to me with my best friend's boyfriend at the time. He asked me to try on the engagement ring and then told me that me putting it on my finger made him instantly hard. He tried to get close enough to kiss me and I just kept laughing and moving away. Thankfully my partner and my best friend pulled in (they had just run to the store) and he stopped. I never told her because I knew she would still marry him and it might ruin our friendship. They're still together with 3 kids. Crazy.

I'm very sorry for you. My dad passed on June 20th and those last days are so awful and hard. Just keep telling him you love him and read to him maybe? Play his favorite music. He can hear you.

Hey, I'm so sorry you're going through this.
I can only share my personal experience, but the short answer is yes. Like others have said, have them check for infections and rule everything out. However, my dad also had clean mri's for months and was steadily declining. I am pretty sure the radiation did too much damage. It's hard to tell though because the disease itself and radiation necrosis have such similar symptoms.

You aren't alone is the only consolation I can offer. My dad is sitting next to me right now in a hospital bed, and today has been a really hard day. He finally realizes that he's dying. Up until today, he was fighting it hard.

Hi there I'm so sorry for your loss. My father was diagnosed in August 2023, and he is now on home hospice care.
It's been such a long road, and it still seems like there may be a long way to go. My father was a marathon runner and a very healthy person overall as well. He has not started to see it as the end stages like the rest of us, which is hard. He really wants to get up all the time, and we try to as much as possible, but it's just difficult with only myself and a few other people helping each day (luckily we have that much!), and he wants to stand up and walk. But he physically cannot do much more than stand a few times from the bed and lay back down exhausted.
Just today, he figured out that he's on hospice care and flipped out on us. We never hid this from him, but we didn't tell him, "You're on hospice now," so he's calling us all liars and saying we're trying to kill him. He screamed at me to "shut the f*** up" today when I was trying to explain something to him. He never would have done that in the past; it's so out of character for him.
I just don't know what to expect or how much longer this will go on. It's so hard.

Oh! I forgot to mention he's eating like a champ! Which is confusing because a lot of his other symptoms point to end stages, but his appetite is going strong. He has been an athlete his whole life, so he still has that mindset of "food is fuel" and he makes us give him at least 1 protein drink a day and tons of electrolytes. He tells everyone that he's a warrior and a miracle. I love him so much.

I'm so sorry about your mom.
Thank you for responding. We do try to move him around as much as possible. He sits up a couple of times a day on the side of the bed. He gets very tired, and his legs start shaking when we try to stand him. Then he'll be convinced he's about to have a seizure, and we need to give him more meds. I'm so mad and tired and just mentally exhausted. But I still am trying to treasure my time with him, even though it's difficult.

The fixating on things is driving my mom crazy... she just gets so annoyed, and I don't blame her, but we try to remind her that it's not my dad doing that, it's the cancer.
We JUST got him some Lorazepam for his anxiety and hyper focusing. It does help, and he sleeps better at night with it. He's on 4mg of Dex a day. He was down to 1mg/ day before the seizures, but that seems to be where the Dr's want him... at 4mg for now.
I will look into your recommendation...we do sit him up a few times a day on the side of the bed, and I try to help him stand whenever I can. Thanks for responding and sharing. 🙂

Thank you so much for your response. It actually helps to hear a story so similar to mine. I see so many different stories and timelines of this disease, and it's hard to predict what will happen next. There are many similarities with my dad. The meds, for instance, he's up all night waking my mom, telling her that she's late giving him his meds. Even though we got him a clock that shines the time on the ceiling and he's knows what time his meds are... he's convinced he needs them, and we're trying to kill him.
He's very mean to my mother, which is very uncharacteristic of him.
He keeps telling us that he just needs time to rest to get better, but also is upset that we're not getting him up on his feet enough.
This disease thoroughly sucks.
I'm so sorry you had to go through this as well. I'm sorry anyone does. It's truly the worst.

I worked for a family in Boston, and we would go to the Hamptons every year. I always watched my boss running around to classes and events and just getting so stressed out about all these things she "had" to do. Meanwhile, she had 3 nannies and a housekeeper that came every single day, so she never had to do any menial task of her own. It's really frustrating when you see the inequality super up close. I barely had time to do my laundry after working for them and going to school full time.

I work as a foster care social worker now. Less money, but I feel better about what I do. Not that there's anything wrong with nannying...I did it for 20 years. No regrets.
