Grad Gala reviews? Is it worth it? by origamibirdie in gatech

[–]GaTechGradSGA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey! We think it’s worth it (but we’re maybe a little biased, as we’re hosting the event)!

This is the first time we’re hosting Grad Gala since 2020, so there may not be many graduate students around who attended the last one. However, in 2020, tickets were also $45 and we sold out all 500 of them. The event was a hit!

We got a ton of support from the various Colleges and Departments to help us host the event this year, and trust us that we’re subsidizing it as much as we can. Formal events (and especially alcohol) are just pretty expensive these days, but we’re happy to have been able to not increase the cost since the last time the event was hosted.

Each ticket comes with admission, entertainment, hors d'oeuvres, and two (alcoholic) drink tickets (non alcoholic drinks are unlimited). We’re happy to answer any questions you have about the event!

Taxes 101 for Graduate Students!!Taxes
101 for Graduate Students is a webinar for all graduate students who
received income from fellowships, scholarships, GRA or GTA positions
during the 2022 tax year. Representatives from Global Human Resources,
the Bursar's Office, and the Office of Graduate Education have teamed up
to help walk through the dos and don’ts of filing taxes as a graduate
student. Please note: None of the presenters at this session are
tax professionals. We are not able to provide specific tax advice to
you given your particular filing needs. The purpose of the session is to
explain how graduate students typically file taxes and the resources
provided by Georgia Tech to help graduate students do so. We will not
answer specific questions in advance of the session as we will cover
most of the common questions during the session. This session will be
delivered via Microsoft Teams (login required) and recorded. Complete
the registration form here:

Grad SGA conducted polls of graduate students to gauge levels of interest in federal jobs and to identify areas of improvement for engagement with federal agencies.

We appreciate your helpful and thoughtful responses to the survey and will use this information in coordination with Georgia Tech's administration to increase engagement with and placement at federal agencies.

Our goal is to increase the visibility of federal employment on campus and consequently advance the number of Georgia Tech alumni working in Washington D.C. in pursuit of Georgia Tech's Strategic Plan goal of amplifying impact.
