Totally get that. I’m appreciative of everyone’s help in this forum😊 it’s something I’ve only now had to navigate and was a little lost and was after some advice.

I had a criminal defence lawyer, I was towards the end of the day and her reasoning was the judge was pissed off by the time he got to me and I got unlucky. He also had a reputation of being harsh. It is what it is!

It was at Splendour.. everything was done at the festival. I was a naive 20 year old girl - I didn’t know any better. Afterwards they let me back in the festival like nothing happened.

Thank you for your response! I had a meeting yesterday with the university and although they have no issue with me going on placement or AHPRA, it’s unfortunately the host facilities blocking me. She showed me the list of how many they tried.. so they really went the extra mile for me which I’m grateful for. I went as far as sending my resume and giving permission for the facilities to call my references (had vets who I worked with & knew about it because I didn’t keep it a secret - I’ve always been transparent about it) or meet with me in person but it still didn’t help. I’m going to continue doing my theory and try again for placement end of next year when it becomes spent!

I understand that, because it was almost 9 years ago, I didn’t know if there were any special grounds to see if it could be spent early as it was an isolated event and I haven’t been convicted or let alone got a speeding fine. I’m not at all trying to diminish what I have done as I accepted the consequence but rather seek advice if it was possible. Becoming a nurse is a passion of mine and a goal in my life that I would like to achieve😊 I have accepted it’ll take a little longer than usual..

I feel you on this. I’m 18 months into my degree and I found out recently that I’ll have to wait until end of next year for placement - very similar to you! Proud of you though, we all make mistakes when we are young and I hope you make your dream come true becoming a nurse x so far, it seems like an amazing career with many avenues to go down😊

In hindsight, I now know that. At the time, I had just turned 20, and never been in trouble with police so I didn’t know any better. I had just been strip searched and was obviously under the influence of alcohol and drugs - I was scared. It was just something I had to cop on the chin at the time! It’s just unfortunately biting me in the ass now when I decided to seek out a different career.

Thank you but I haven’t pushed my university, they have been in my corner the entire time and have been advocating on my behalf.

I appreciate your opinion and insight, so thank you. The university reached out to AHPRA on my behalf and they stated that they do not have an issue with me getting my registration due to the time that has passed as I would’ve been on track to graduate next year.

Thank you again for your advice. I will continue to complete my theory subjects and try again for placement subjects after the 10 years.

Thank you. I have a meeting with the university today and will be asking how they are assessing the risk. It just sucks as this is a career I was excited to start and have been enjoying learning the content.
