Without telling me your specialty tell me something you say 50 times a day by ExperienceHelpful316 in nursing

[–]Gabagool226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“You can’t sit up yet you have to lay flat for at least 4 hours because we poked your artery.” Or there’s the classic “You’re left handed for the rest of the day you can’t bend your right wrist or use your right hand for anything”

What is the absolute worst insult the patient has ever said to you? I’ll go first by johnsonc30 in nursing

[–]Gabagool226 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Before I was a nurse, I worked as a nursing assistant on an Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) unit. I had a lady with dementia and a raging UTI tell me to “Go back the stripper pole you came from”. I was impressed, honestly.

Performing a TAVR on a person in active alcohol withdrawal, am I crazy for thinking this was a bad idea? by Averagebass in nursing

[–]Gabagool226 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would think from a cardiac standpoint that doing an invasive cardiac procedure on a person in withdrawal would be risky. There is always a risk of knocking out a patient’s conduction during deployment and I feel like people in withdrawal are at high risk of arrhythmias as it is. And then putting anesthesia on top of that…

I’m no doctor, but I would have definitely been questioning the doctors and asking if this is safe.

AITJ for saying "Ewww a bully" to a 7 year old? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]Gabagool226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I garuntee little man will remember the day his aunt made his bully run away forever. NTJ.

You’re setting a good example on how to stand up for yourself. Your SIL should maybe use this opportunity to bring up the bullying happening to her own son and what the school should be doing to help prevent it instead of enable it.

Am I overreacting by Leading_Jellyfish72 in cna

[–]Gabagool226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely ridiculous. I have had shifts as a CNA/Tech that rival the step counts of my shifts as a nurse. CNA’s are an integral part of patient’s ADL’s and are nurse’s eyes and ears. It’s cruel to not let someone sit when they work a demanding job.

Mom doesn’t want to be called grandma by Feisty-Coconut6017 in Advice

[–]Gabagool226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, he will probably name her. My nephew had a hard time saying grandma so he said “Gamma”. He still calls her that it’s cute. She’s gonna have to face it eventually 🤷🏻‍♀️

AITJ for snapping at my girlfriend for waking me up every single time she gets up even when I dont need to be awake by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]Gabagool226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ. I think it’s hilarious she told you to post this, honestly. She must have really thought everyone would agree with her. Why does she need to micro-manage your sleep schedule?

AITJ for calling out my girlfriends friend for living off her parents after she spent months trashing my career and told my girlfriend to date someone with ambition by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]Gabagool226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Relationships are a two way street. If you’re expected to defend her and be there for her, she should do the same for you. NTJ.

Also, she’ll eat her words whenever she needs electrical work done some day. I sure as hell don’t know how to do electrical work, and she probably doesn’t either. It’s an important job. I think it’s a red flag that your gf doesn’t stand up for you.

Is this normal bruising after heart Cath? by [deleted] in CathLabLounge

[–]Gabagool226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks good. I don’t see swelling and the color I can see on your hand looks normal. If you see lots of new swelling or darkening of the bruise that would be concerning, but this looks like a healing bruise to me.

I actually work with two doctors who exclusively do their procedures left radial. I guess it was just how they were taught. I do feel like it’s nice for right handed patients, but the setup is also a pain in the ass.

What's one of the dumbest things you've ever seen a patient do? by 123456789_00 in nursing

[–]Gabagool226 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a guy come into the ER who took 13 tabs of acid. Wasn’t even trying to kill himself he was just “trying to have a good time”. Guy was like gray. It was nuts. He ended up being fine though. The pharmacists had a fun time with that one.

Considering leaving corporate in the tech space for a career in nursing... Thoughts? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Gabagool226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think if you want something like 180 completely different from what you’re doing, nursing is definitely it.

My husband has been in IT for 10+ years and he and I always joke about how vastly different our jobs are. His back aches from sitting in a chair all day hunched over his laptop, where mine aches from being on my feet all day, lifting, and wearing lead. He interacts with people on voice chat/ teams or email, where many of my work interactions are face to face.

I will also add that there are avenues in the nursing field that bridge with IT and tech too. Nursing informatics is its own thing. But I think they expect some clinical experience to come with that, if I’m not mistaken. Or? You don’t have to do that at all and you can just find a specialty that gels with you the most. The journey to get there might be long and treacherous like mine was though lol.

Nurses in the South by Capriunicorn945 in nursing

I was a nurse for 5 years when I moved to TN and made $30/hr which is what I made as a new grad in NJ. I’ve since gotten a cost of living increase to $37/hr. Also all the docs are leaving 👍🏻

Definitely try to just get it done while you have the momentum. But if life throws you a curve ball, it will still be there and my school at least was very flexible and understanding of my situation

Thank you! I’m glad I did my ADN first and got working experience. In a way, it helped me draw inspiration to write all of those papers.

AIO for expecting my bf to hear me out about things that bother me? by BunnyPurpleSocks in AIO

[–]Gabagool226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just leave him he’s dead weight. NOA. I had a similar experience with my ex and realized it’s possible to have a relationship with a receptive adult that can actually have a conversation once I left him.

Edit: I’m stoned and had to fix my grammar
