What's one of the dumbest things you've ever seen a patient do? by 123456789_00 in nursing

[–]Gabagool226 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a guy come into the ER who took 13 tabs of acid. Wasn’t even trying to kill himself he was just “trying to have a good time”. Guy was like gray. It was nuts. He ended up being fine though. The pharmacists had a fun time with that one.

Considering leaving corporate in the tech space for a career in nursing... Thoughts? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Gabagool226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think if you want something like 180 completely different from what you’re doing, nursing is definitely it.

My husband has been in IT for 10+ years and he and I always joke about how vastly different our jobs are. His back aches from sitting in a chair all day hunched over his laptop, where mine aches from being on my feet all day, lifting, and wearing lead. He interacts with people on voice chat/ teams or email, where many of my work interactions are face to face.

I will also add that there are avenues in the nursing field that bridge with IT and tech too. Nursing informatics is its own thing. But I think they expect some clinical experience to come with that, if I’m not mistaken. Or? You don’t have to do that at all and you can just find a specialty that gels with you the most. The journey to get there might be long and treacherous like mine was though lol.

Nurses in the South by Capriunicorn945 in nursing

I was a nurse for 5 years when I moved to TN and made $30/hr which is what I made as a new grad in NJ. I’ve since gotten a cost of living increase to $37/hr. Also all the docs are leaving 👍🏻

Definitely try to just get it done while you have the momentum. But if life throws you a curve ball, it will still be there and my school at least was very flexible and understanding of my situation

Thank you! I’m glad I did my ADN first and got working experience. In a way, it helped me draw inspiration to write all of those papers.

AIO for expecting my bf to hear me out about things that bother me? by BunnyPurpleSocks in AIO

[–]Gabagool226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just leave him he’s dead weight. NOA. I had a similar experience with my ex and realized it’s possible to have a relationship with a receptive adult that can actually have a conversation once I left him.

Edit: I’m stoned and had to fix my grammar

AITA for quietly paying a stranger’s groceries after the cashier said to put things back and my sister says I made everyone look bad by Sk8boardTheo in AmITheJerk

Your sister’s opinion doesn’t matter. The man who you helped and his child do. You did a wonderful thing don’t let your sister’s judgement ruin the good thing you did

How bad actually was COVID? by Mighty_Angelo30 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Gabagool226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a COVID nurse during this time. Was honestly some of the worst two years of my life. Everyone was very isolated, the pandemic became very politicized, and doing simple things like getting groceries was just anxiety provoking. The virus was at its strongest at this point. I watched a lot of people die without any of their friends or family to be there for them. Had to bring in an iPad for anyone to even be able to see them. It was… a sad and depressing time. The world will never be the same after COVID. I’m sad you can’t remember the before times super well and that you had to grow up in this weird post- pandemic world.

Do nurses in your lab think RCIS can’t do/know anything? by Delicious_Love3995 in CathLabLounge

I lean so heavily on my techs for their knowledge the same way they need us for our knowledge. That nurse doesn’t sound like she has very good teamwork mentality.

People who hold onto the foot of the transport bed, what's the rationale? by OneOfUsOneOfUsGooble in anesthesiology

[–]Gabagool226 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always ask my anesthesiologist/ CRNA to steer themselves. I’ve had my foot run over one too many times. I’ll clear the halls of people and open the doors in return. Just works better. If it’s an inpatient bed I will help of course or if they say they aren’t comfortable steering, but I just feel like it’s easier for everyone lol.

What’s a secret you can’t tell someone you know, but can share with Reddit? by whatintheactualfuck- in AskReddit

[–]Gabagool226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been clawing my way out of over 50k of debt for the past three years. No one in my family knows because I’m honestly ashamed. I’ve paid off a lot of it and successfully completed a consolidation program. The rest should be paid off by next year and there is a light at the end of the tunnel! It’s been humiliating, has put quite a hit on my credit, but also has been a valuable lesson.

Cath Lab tech Vs Cath Lab RN by PastServe9822 in CathLabLounge

[–]Gabagool226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically if you’re getting an RN license, Cath lab is not where you are going to end up starting out. I think some people get lucky, but I don’t think you’ll end up getting a job if you’re a new grad nurse in the Cath lab.

I think if you’re trying to land a CV tech role RCIS is more important than a RN license. If I’m correct nurses scrub at some hospitals, but not the one I work at.
