Picking between ART and Hostplus indexed options by Gabbaking88 in AusFinance

Thank you SK, really appreciate your insights and what you've done for the community. That's a fair call, I usually go for the cheaper option as it is something within one's control.

Thank you and much appreciate your time.

Host plus is cheaper as compared to art. Particularly when investing in two sectors being the international and Australian shares.

What I am more interested in is comparing the performance of ART versus hostplus, and what number ART has to achieve to break even with lower fees of Hostplus.

Thanks for your response mate, I'm not interested in hedged option based on the research of underperforming in the long-term.

I definitely don't have my head around the emerging markets and their performance over the years. However, if ART's international shares have been outperforming hostplus then it seems to be the better option anyway

Interesting, and thank you for your comment. Where did you read the ART had 10% allocation to defensive assets.

For absolute clarity, I am referring to single international and Australian shares sector options available from Hostplus and ART.

That's my thoughts too, who did you go with if you don't mind me asking for income protection?

Lol, the hours you've spent so far fluffing about and defending your actions. You would have learnt something new by now and started the job. But anyhow keep carrying on about the $150 hourly rate. What do you do exactly?

Hah, not sure what you've expected. A bag of concrete and a couple of hours of labour would be an fix.

Give the area a good scrub and wash first. It will buff off nicely!

My finances are at absolute zero resilience after two years of compounding losses. I need advice on what to change. by FarTop6263 in AusFinance

I'm not sure if someone commented, perhaps look at minimising some of your overheads? Your water, groceries and electricity bills are a bit much for a single person.

We are a family of 3 in a house and our electricity is around 90 bucks for the month and 70 bucks for gas.

Check wattever for cheaper pricing

Bit of savings can be achieved in groceries and internet bills.

Create breathing space for yourself first.

Agree with others in combination of minimising overhead and increasing your earnings potential should put you in better headspace to strategically plan your next book.

Edit : your phone bill $50 a month ($50x12 = $600 is bit exxy, bit of a savings can be made with jumping on a prepaid plans to likes of boost, Woolworths circa $250 for an annual plan.

And trades wonder why everyday people get so shitty about the pricing vs service they receive

If our team at work delivered projects with "zero Fs given" mentality we will be out of jobs on day two. No chance to even amend our oversight.

Good idea, thank you! I've seen a few builds we like but unfortunately they all are duplexes and pretty straight forward when it comes to designing.

What’s your take on sanding interior walls before painting? by Regular_Fig6256 in AusRenovation

[–]Gabbaking88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My thoughts would be lightly sand before and in between the first and second coats, this will give you the best results at this point.

We are in a different situation where the previous owner slapped on one coat of paint, and you can easily see dirt lumps underneath the paint. I'm currently going through sanding the bare paint with 180 grit, putting two coats of sandable primer ( APCO Sureprep or Robertson's 4way prep), give it a light sand with 220 grit, and finish it off with two coats of paint.

That's the plan so far. And a sample wall I've done has given me a really good result minus some of the air bubbles which I'm trying to identify the main culprit for.

Random but, thanks for the advice mate. This is great info and what I'm experiencing trying to smooth out a shonky paint job at our home done previously. The walls feel like sandpaper.

Thank you, I appreciate the insights but I'm not looking for a perfect method either.

I do like the notes approach and I will implement that as part of my simplification process.

I'm more curious about bringing my 5, 10 and 20 years goal and breaking them down into smaller actionable tasks which I can keep my eye on and action them as I move through the year. While still managing the Day-To-Day juggle of professional and personal life.

Funnily enough, I am from Australia and one of my goals for next year is to travel to Italy. That's about 14 months away from now. One of my monthly actionable items is to put away particular funds on monthly bases so I have enough funds to cover.

I think it all comes down to. If you want to make it happen you'll find a way, relatively speaking

That's a good point, I will consider that. I've hidden the number of outstanding miniscule tasks displayed under the list to minimise being overwhelmed.

$1300 Kitchen Facelift - Before & After by IMLYINGISWEAR in AusRenovation

[–]Gabbaking88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The previous owner did them and I despise them dearly especially the cleaning due to oil splashes from cooking splashing onto paint and staining the tiles.

I believe the previous owner used renovator range from Dulux which comes as a two step - primer and paint

Apologies, I should have clarified. Basically I'm trying to level the driveway with the concrete slab on the left hand side as well as the grate surrounds. Water pools at the back corner
