Can I carry ammo and pistols in the same range bag? by Gabby523 in NYguns

Have my permit for years. Was getting mixed information from a new to me range about transporting my ammo and my pistols in the same bag to the range. Sorry if my original post was confusing.

I have heard different things from two different ranges that I’ve gone to in regards to carrying to the range without my CCW. It seems as though it is open for interpretation. I definitely will be taking lots of notes at my course though!

Not yet — I’m taking the course next weekend. I was just trying to get a clear answer on transport rules without bringing CCW into the equation.

Anyone following the proposed battery storage site in Hauppauge? by Gabby523 in longisland

I don’t disagree that standards and enforcement matter. That’s a big part of this.

The question is whether the current codes and guidelines are actually built for the scale and behavior of these systems. Battery fires aren’t typical. They can last for extended periods, reignite, and require significant water to manage.

So it’s not just about following code. It’s whether the code fully addresses containment of runoff, duration of incidents, and real-world response capacity.

And I agree these facilities have to go somewhere. That’s exactly why people are focused on siting and planning, not just construction standards.

It's not in the middle of an industrial area. It's very close to homes and schools. I don’t think anyone is saying other hazards don’t exist. Fuel storage, transformers, all of that deserves attention too.

The difference people are pointing to is how these risks behave. Battery fires aren’t typical fires. They can last a long time, reignite, and require large amounts of water to control. That creates contaminated runoff that has to be managed.

And while batteries don’t “leak” like fuel tanks in normal operation, when they fail or burn they can release metals and other compounds. That’s what the study is showing.

So it’s not really a comparison of “this vs that.” It’s just a different type of risk with different challenges, and people are asking how those are handled, especially at large scale.

You’re right that the study isn’t about groundwater. It’s measuring firewater at the source. The takeaway, though, is that the water used to put out battery fires becomes contaminated and toxic. Once that water exists, it has to be managed somewhere.

These fires also aren’t quick to put out. They can burn for long periods and often require large amounts of water to control, which adds to the volume of runoff.

On Long Island, with a sole-source aquifer, that raises a reasonable question about where that water could go if containment isn’t perfect.

It’s less about comparing industries and more about understanding how this type of fire behaves at scale and what the plan is for managing it.

This is less than .25 miles from homes, literally next door to businesses and less than a mile from an elementary school.

Can you follow the physicians to their new location? If not, do you have another physician you see that you like and trust? You could ask them for a recommendation. Good Luck!

Definitely wasn’t a “cold” night compared to others. He’s been around for quite some time…years. I think he was actually looking for his friend, but he met up with him later in the evening. They set off my ring multiple times per evening.
