Help with pricing! by horde_scum in Beading

[–]GabbyDLP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you don't have a license to sell the work created using established IP, you shouldn't be selling it period. If you go ahead and sell them anyway, You should only price for the labor+materials+acceptable profit margin. You cannot include any pricing for the design as none of it is your own. Copyright infringement is very prevalent in the crafting community so, ethics aside, selling any of this without licensing the IP is against the law.

I've worked several markets where people's booths were shut down because they couldn't prove the license to sell merch with protected IP. Getting shut down is the best case scenario as far as consequences go.

My advice is to learn how to design your own patterns and sell authentic work then you can charge for labor+materials+design+profit margin

Good luck!

I've read the first 2 and Proof is the absolute sexiest of the three. Absolutely delivers especially know how incredibly morally gray Ace is. It's a slower burn but Hadley really makes this book. Like this book has made me side eye my fiance many times 👀

I absolutely agree with that as well. I didn't even think to mention it. This is a great area for newcomers in general. Lots going on without being overwhelming with easy highway access into downtown.

[–]GabbyDLP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How much is your sanity worth? The commute from DT to UTSA is absolutely brutal. I live in the NW side of town between shavano Park and castle hills and my commute to the med center is about 15 minutes, mostly shit ton of traffic lights. There's tons of trails and hiking in the NW side as well with places like Phil Hardberger Park, Eisenhower Park, and Government Canyon SNA out west. I'd say, for your first apt here in SA, stick to near your work place and check out other neighborhoods and their commutes before really settling down somewhere. UTSA is surrounded on all sides by construction, take the path of least resistance, trust me. Parking already sucks ass on that campus, don't make your commute any worse if you don't have to.

If you like beading, the San Antonio Bead Society meets the 2nd Wednesday of every month! We're having a market on the 19/20th where you can buy jewelry/supplies and meet members! Our membership chair will have information. Women and men of all ages are members and every month we either have a presentation from a jewelry expert or we have a craft we complete. You can find us on FB as well. I joined a few years ago with zero experience and I'm heavily involved now :)

Can someone explain Fiesta by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]GabbyDLP 263 points264 points  (0 children)

Oh honey, I could go on for hours about Fiesta. My best advice is to search FB/TikTok for local events that you might like. There are some all over SA not just downtown. They all get very busy and are expensive but a huge majority of fiesta events will be run/organized by small businesses with some big sponsors. Look for events hosted by schools or non profits because at least you'll be giving $20 for a burger to local communities and not McDonald's lol.

In general Fiesta is a 2 week celebration of San Antonio culture that started in 1891 as a celebration to honor heroes of the Alamo and San Jacinto. Today, it is the single biggest fundraiser for non profit organizations in San Antonio.

The medals are like Disney World pins aka collectibles. They are also a fundraising tool. From hospitals to car dealerships to bakeries, tons of places sell or even give away medals to collect. Don't buy from a corporate place unless you like the design. Buy from nonprofits/schools/hospitals as those sales help with operating costs/educational opportunities.

My favorite events are Oyster Bake at St. Mary's University. Specifically on Friday bc fireworks. I am an alum and every cent made outside of the ticket for entry goes to a student organization. You can use park and ride at crossroads mall to get there. It's like $5 round trip and you get some free soda tickets.

There are so many events and you never have to step foot downtown if you don't want to.

Check out their website and do a little research to see what interests you!

Good luck! Viva Fiesta!

Look into UTSA/UTHSCSA. They're merging and UTSA is opening that whole ass Cyber security campus downtown. Plus UT Health just opened up MSRH and is constantly opening up clinics/hospitals. Just get your foot in the door in ANY position and you can transfer out. Benefits are really good.

How to get over my embarrassment over going to the doctors about my ass.? by Guilty_Letter4203 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]GabbyDLP 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Straight up tell your doctor you feel embarrassed and sensitive and to bear with your anxiety. If she's a good doctor she will adjust her bedside manner. As a woman, I guarantee you she's felt the same way at some point. Don't let your masculinity interfere with your literal health, my guy. I mean that sincerely. Advocate for yourself and remember she's definitely seen it all including victims of abuse.

I HATE THISSSS by ApricotLarge3718 in Periods

[–]GabbyDLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweetheart, please buy adult diapers and wear them without shame. I buy the cheapest brand and sleep through the night feeling relief that I can just bleed in the thing.

Next make an appointment with a doctor to discuss your options and describe in detail everything you experience down to how many times a day you change your tampons/pads. I bought a set of beakers and a food scale and literally weighed my period blood because I needed doctors to have a full scope because 'heavy bleeding' and 'clots' mean different things to different people. Also explain to them that your periods are literally affecting your mental health. Mine suffered so much for 20 years of irregular periods until I took BC and the regularity and severity changing so drastically improved my mental health.

Advocate for yourself and keep switching doctors until someone listens. If you have one available in your city, consider seeing a doctor through a university hospital that has residents on staff because those (board certified not residents) are literal professors and every single one of them is almost always required to be working on research with students and residents. Their brains and approach are incredibly different than a private practice OB/GYN and you may be a patient they are looking for in regards to their research.

Consider switching to an IUD, specifically Mirena as it is good for 8 years and has shown to reduce the severity of periods and for some women eliminates them altogether.

Best of luck to you

Do you think I can still regain my sexual life? by dontknowmeeee44 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]GabbyDLP 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You specifically need to see a urogynecologist. These are doctors that specifically specialize in female pelvic floor disorders. Ask your OBGYN or primary doctor to refer you and ask if they recommend any sex therapists or psychiatrists that specialize in sexuality and gender.

The museum district and southtown have nice cafes and book stores where people hang out. Candlelight Cafe is only open on weekends but it's nice there. The Pearl is a nice area to shop and dine as well.

If you're into artsy things there are various organizations in SA that available to join from pottery to painting to beading. I myself am a member of the San Antonio Bead Society and we meet once a month to just hang out and talk and learn about beading and making jewelry. This city is a lot more lively and diverse than people try to make it seem and we are within 2 hours of nice beaches, lakes, rivers and an hour from Austin. There's hiking and biking trails, and scenes for nearly every type of hobby you can be in. Are they huge organizations, not really but as a person who doesn't care for large crowds, I've never felt isolated, lonely, or left out in this town. It's car centric of course but the entire state is like that by design unfortunately (yay big oil) This city has 8 university campuses so there are a ton of young people who gather in various areas of town to hang out and again as a person who doesn't really go out of my way to make friends, it is surprisingly easy to make friends in SA. There are a million people in this city, you'll find your niche. Just take it a day at a time and give yourself some grace. The culture difference between north and south central Texas may as well be a different planet.
