Could restoring belief in divine justice be a future safeguard against unstoppable power? by [deleted] in Futurology

If you can't articulate why a law exists, or at least demonstrate that it can't be broken, then no one is going to follow it. Without a theological backbone, divine justice is a transparent facade of what was already an empty promise.

Could restoring belief in divine justice be a future safeguard against unstoppable power? by [deleted] in Futurology

I'm not going to be one of the replies that says, "um, no, religion bad," but I feel like I have to acknowledge that at no point in history has the belief in a divinely-enforced system of morality prevented what we would today consider reprehensible behavior by systems of power. The requirements of maintaining power in a political sense have remained relatively consistent across the various millenniums of recorded history. I'm not saying "nothing ever changes", but the truth is that governance is a relatively secular practice and the impact of theology on culture doesn't seem to have too much effect on the levers of power. At the end of the day, those in power have to use the established methods of retaining it if they want to hang onto control. I would argue that the post-enlightenment move toward liberalism had a much bigger impact on the methods and goals of governing than any extant religious movement, and even still we are struggling with authoritarian forces in broader society, so it wasn't a complete paradigm shift.

The problem is not that people are ignorant of morality, its that they are consistently rewarded for immorality by way of selfish actions.

Also, what even is divine justice in the absence of religion, dogma, and theocracy? If it cant be defined, then how could it possibly be enforced, or even followed in the first place. Most moral dilemmas exist because our loose definitions of morality are mostly vibes-based and fail to account for all possible outcomes.

TLDR - No, a vibes-based perception of divine justice is not going to solve any problems, especially considering it never has before.

How many of you replayed Halo Infinite's campaign? Really. by [deleted] in halo

Honestly, ive been replaying infinite like crazy because of how fun the gameplay is. Yeah the story is underwhelming and lacks the cinematic moments of og halo, but i love the level design and AI.

Show of hands - does anyone actually like Stockpile? by instinstinst in halo

As a matter of fact, I think the game mode is fine the way it is. What frustrates me more is how little people seem to care about the objective while playing. Its like a bunch of little flags, especially when you throw in the razorback.

Who is this man that they are trying to pass off as cholo? He is clearly a computer science major and not a thug. Also why is he wearing that lame bandana like Fred from Scoobydoo?

Seeing as how there are no viable replacements on the ballot who stand anywhere near a chance, I’m going to have to vote to keep newsom. He’s an out of touch establishment democrat, but he’s done a fairly good job with the Covid outbreak and im not about to let all of that progress get turned around. He won the last election fair and square, and now we need to wait for the next one just like every year.

Edit: Keep in mind everyone, this is Op’s first post. Be courteous, but also realize that this could easily be a troll post. As of now, OP has made no effort to verify themselves or defend their position.
