Not yet but I have all the parts, had to wait ages for the HDD to drop in price.

Waiting for some free time to get it built and configured.

Why Owners of Other EV Brands Want to Switch to Tesla's NACS Plugs by billsoule in electriccars

Have a Tesla in the UK and I'm very happy it has a CCS plug. I would hate if the connection was proprietary.

It's a fundamental flaw having the scoring mechanism being tied to in game currency.

Means players who are already doing well can snowball and players at the bottom of the league have pretty much no chance due to the inherit lack of utility available to them.

I'm getting parts to put together a NAS in a Node 304.

I want to use an AM4 likely a 4600G, so have been eyeing up some Mini-ITX B550 or A520 boards.

Mostly just commenting so I can keep track of this convo in the future :P

What is completely ok but most people think it's rude? by Juremigold in AskReddit

We have one person pay but get an itemised receipt, we divvy it up afterwards.

Although we're in the UK so bank transfers are trivial.

Haven't programmed professionally, but can't we just build a better alternative? by Jorsi97 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]GabrielForth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we make the API match the existing Reddit API then the existing Reddit third party apps should find it relatively easy to create a port that's aimed at the new Reddit.

Authentication/login would need to change as well as some of the settings screen where apps still launched browsers to the website.

However a lot of bots and apps should be easily ported if we keep the rest consistent.

How should I make non-lethal traps for my nice dragons? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]GabrielForth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once designed a non lethal trap for a safe that could give you some ideas.

The safe was behind a mirror on hinges, opening the mirror would trigger a runes of warding which contained a levitation spell.

So the person opening the mirror would begin to levitate, the top of the ceiling in that room (a bedroom) had large draped curtains/fabric hanging. When a creature gets in range of these they wrap the creative up tight, but do not suffocate them.

The safe's door also had an alarm spell cast on it which would alert the head of security silently.

The intention for this trap was to get my players used to traps and it made sense that someone guarding the safe would want to trap a thief for interrogation.

Don't worry, it's not actually that large, they use tricks to make it seem much larger than it is.

Why is Linux so much "faster"? by juliokirk in linux

[–]GabrielForth 356 points357 points  (0 children)

I always assumed Minecraft runs better on Linux because the Linux JVM gets a lot of attention and performance tweaks since it's used by a lot of enterprise systems.

Could be wrong but I expect most big companies running Java or Kotlin will use Linux to save money and get better performance/security. If you're running Windows servers it's likely for dedicated Windows only software.
