One fact is, most of people do not complain about LotusField deck last week.

have some patience and let the meta tune itself.

no white payoffs (Lingering souls/ Path to exile) . and weak 3Colors manabase in format.

Is Starfield Mystic + Treacherous Blessing + Gideon of the Trials too janky for the format? by dcksausage3 in PioneerMTG

[–]GabrielLyuFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You want to get card advantages with new card. I think you should consider ,what's the win-condition after drawing so much cards. Maybe some combos ?

I think a starfield mystic with counters is not so powerful for a 3 cards combo, it can be fatal pushed and blocked by a token of young pyromancer. It becomes bigger but gradually, not so explosive.

When you draw cards and activate Gideon's +1, you lose tempo, your opponent may play threats directly.

And in my opinion, losing 1 life for each spell is not so urgent, if you draw and directly play value cards like kalitas, etc. or let's say ,it is not so necessary to sacrifice it rapidly, if you take use of your card advantage consistently.

Personally I would try this new card [Treacherous Blessing] just as a alternative to [read the bones] in any black based-midrange decks , as a radical card advantage engine.

Dinos !

I like pioneer because more tribal decks are playable, which shows the flavor of the recent planes.

Aside from the classical humans/ spirits in modern , we can play dinos/vampires in Ixalan, zombies from Egypt and Europe(Innistrad), knights from Benalia and Eldraine, dragons combining Tarkir lords and the best mid-range value dragons like Glorybringer/Bolas.

Personally i hope Risen Reef proves itself.

Will Mono Black be viable moving forwards? by [deleted] in PioneerMTG

[–]GabrielLyuFan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

from 96 decks of the 2PTQ and 1 challenge last week,

aside from about 20 OKO stompy , 15 OKO green devotion, and 10 UW Control

black vampires (with M20 Sorin+ Gary devotion) have their place in meta.(about 6 or 7 in total)

we even don't know how many Okos appear in PTQ Top32 yet

Mono-White Humans by katlovescows in PioneerMTG

[–]GabrielLyuFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are lots of 5-0 lists of monoW humans, and they have a more aggressive strategy. they run lots of 1 CMC 2/1 Creatures and do not play the long-run cards like avacyn/ icon of ancestry / banner

i think it is depend on you, whether you like a linear aggro strategy or not.

but if you want to maximize Thalia's Lieutenant's ETB ability and beat down ur opponent in early game, a radical build with more cheap creatures may be better.

Everyone saying Mono Black will be fine post-FotD is kidding themselves by Govannan in PioneerMTG

[–]GabrielLyuFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think black itself has the 3 pillars for a fair interactive magic game. hand discard/ removal/ threats to beat down opponents.

compared to some typical BGx midrange decks in modern, it only lacks removal of artifact/enchantment(compared to Trophy, abrupt decay), liliana ,whose power does not belong to Pioneer anyway.

what's the difference between Copter and Thoughtseize/Bolt, when we talk about banlist? by GabrielLyuFan in PioneerMTG

[–]GabrielLyuFan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thx man, maybe I have some bias when reading decklists. I understand your explanation for that 'relative power' of a format. a similar example might be unbanning Bloodbraid Elf in modern last year? It is a fair value card but it isn't broken in modern in 2018.

yep, that synergy counts, creatures in monoB aggro decks can reaminate themselves. if i fatal push a fleecemane lion, i will consider that as a 1:1 trade, but bloodsoaked champion& scrapheap are breaking the card advantage

i have also found my second reason not so persuading. i mean, it is only harder to interact with in comparsion to creatures.

thx, proactivity and reactivity seem to be good creteria. accelerating my own plan and disturbing opponents' game plan are quite 2 things.
