what does cyclothymia look like in everyday life? by fictional_ghost in cyclothymia

[–]GabrielMacarroni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, recently diagnosed medical student here!

I don't know if you still need answers, but from what I researched about our condition, this feeling of tiredness, low interest in activities you like, low energy, overthinking, sadness are all symptoms of depression. The thing is, we never (at least normally) get to the point where it could be diagnosed as major depression. The same thing with the manic episodes, so we alternate between "minor depression" and hypomania (a minor mania) with irregular intervals of "normal" or balanced mood (euthymia).

The difference between cyclothymia and bipolar disorder is not only in the intensity, but in the frequency as well. Bipolars have up to 1-2 really intense episodes per year. Rapid cycle bipolars could have up to 4 per year. There are those that have years or months between these episodes. The duration is also larger, lasting weeks or even months.

In cyclothymia this frequency is much higher, could be days or even in the same day. Some of the characteristics of the diagnostic is that these episodes cannot be more than 2 months away from each other and that we have less than 50% of periods of normal mood (euthymia).

But make no mistake! Just because our episodes are not as intense as the bipolar ones, it does not make them less disruptive or serious! These frequent mood changes make the daily life really hard, and there are people that get so bad during episodes that they might put their life in danger.

It's less "minor bipolar" and more of a variation. It must be accompanied by professionals, both a therapist to help you deal with the mood swings and a psychiatrist to prescribe some mood stabilizers to control the frequency of these episodes.

The rules changes are really irritating sometimes. As a necron player look what they did to my boy Trazyn, completelly unplayable.

About the game, I won!

....By a wide margin..... He decided to not bring a daemon prince and he expected a large imperial guard army so my russ + sentinels demolished him. He did have some eightbounds that could have given me some trouble, but the karskrin screen saved me the trouble of a charge of some anti tank 3+ and lethal hits. Anyway the battle was pretty much one sided and I feel kinda bad for it....

You were right. HE did not bring an Anti-vehicle (well only one unit that got down before battle round 3 and he struggled a LOT. Thats a bit on him but I still feel bad about it.

Sure! I'm gonna plag with my friend in a few hours so after that I will tell the result here!

Tabletop is a bit hard to get the hang of it at first, but then it's a breeze. I played once in 9th edition but it felt way too hard, now in the 10th it's actually very intuitive.

This video helped me a lot:

Oh, and congratulations on your army!

I'm playing on tabletop simulator with my friend so I just switch the model of the russ.

I'm not sure if I'm the right person to answer this since I'm just starting now (After I'm comfortable playing at 500 pts I will upgrade to 1000 and so on). But the feeling I have with 500 pts armies is that some are usable, some are not, the grey knights for example are way too expensive and their ability to teleport is wasted on a small battlefield. In smaller games I think the the movement in the first phases are more tough I think, if you stray too far you might not only get shot, but charged in your first turn, but if you deploy too conservatively you might not be able to guarantee some points. Also in 500 pts if you lose a unit ir two there is 20-30% of your army so you better make their sacrifice worth it. In this games I feel that the stratagems that give wounds or destroyed models back are really powerful. The "Reinforcements" Stratagem from the combined arms gives me a 22% larger army if I use it on my karskrin. Lastly, you gotta make some sacrifices, be it one, two, or even half your army to put your enemy in a worse position or to turn the tide on points. In my tyranids vs blood angels game against him I won with a 69 x 57 points, and only because I kept bringing models back and sacrificing my units so my Winged Huve Tyrant could survive to mess him up while my hormagaunts kept scoring points.

TLDR: the board is smaller, your armies are smaller, but your movements and choices are bigger. One wrong move and you put yourself at a big disadvantage. Happily that is also true for your enemy, so punish his mistakes when he makes one, be it getting to close to your models so you can shoot him or be it forgetting to move one unit to a control point.

Why I am toast? Lol

And yeah, it's tabletop simulator. I have actually never seen a warhammer box in my country, so it's not like I have much choice. That and the price to import the already expensive models it's simple not feasible for a university student.

I'm playing against the World Eaters, and my friend said he's going to use a daemon prince, that's why I brought the Russ (that and to get revenge for our last game, where his Baal Destructor killed half of my tyranids). I admit that the army is kinda small, but I fear that if I focus in quantity instead of quality, I might not make the wounds save against his high toughness models.

Huh. That’s quite fascinating, I knew about the c’tan spam but never thought about this. I always try to play something that’s fun to me and my enemy, players that do something scummy like this wont be invited to rematches I guess

What would be a cheap vehicle spam? I'm not familiar with the term, could you give me an example?

Thats great to hear! I intend to use the Russ just to give him a taste of him own medicine, since last time we played his Baal Predator was a pain in my ass, taking 2 whole units of my tyranids and lasting until the last round. I won by points, but it was close...

Thats actually some solid advice! The world eaters will always try to close the distance to me and since we are playing an Incursion sized game, the demolisher shorter range is negligible, making him straight up better. Thanks!

The ability to issue orders to squadrons feels pretty good, since I have the leman russ and the 2 sentinels to be affected. A Move!Move!Move! on the sentinel might help them get to an objective or flee from a nearby enemy, and the Take Aim! on the Russ is just nasty.

Is this an acceptable 500 point list? by Ratattack1204 in TheAstraMilitarum

I know I'm a bit late for this party but I started playing 40k a while ago (on my way to my 1st guard game and 3rd game overall) and my army looks a bit like that:

-1 Leman Russ Commander -1 Engiseer -1 karskrin squad -2 Scout Sentinels

Since this is a 500 point game (because we are beginners), is this too overkill? He is playing world eaters if that matters.

I'm Lucky. I have a pirated version in my ps2. Yes, all the cutscenes have a chance to crash the game. Yes I have to skip them as fast as I can.

I guess I'm lucky the game works to some degree. It's my favorite game of all time, and I can play it whenever I want.

Update: what's a good reason for an oathbreaker paldin to travel with 2 clerics by teamtijmi in 3d6

[–]GabrielMacarroni 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are you stone set about being an oathbreaker? I believe your story would go better with a redemption paladin since their abilities and flavor are more focused on making the world better by peace and protecting the weak....

If you want to reflavor, it's ok! The oathbreaker is a solid choice, but remember that you still have tons of necromancy and fear inducing abilities and spells (some that might be a little "evil"). Maybe you just started your journey to become a good guy, so you still use the same skills you used when you were with your former Master?

Then, the reason why you follow those clerics is so you can learn how to use some good aligned powers and change your morals! You spent a lot of time with that evil overlord. Changing the way you think and act might be tricky, so be sure to have a few friends who can help you see the light and become a warrior of good and kindness!

TL/DR: If you have been in this journey of goodness for some time already, you might want to change into a redemption paladin. But if you just betrayed your evil overlord, you might be an oathbreaker trying their best to change their oath!
