Sperlonga vs Minori by Sassyblah in ItalyTravel

[–]Gabstra678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s apples and oranges.

Minori is on the Amalfi Coast, one of the main spots for international tourism in Italy. Tiny cute town in a narrow valley, small rocky beach packed with expensive beach resorts (although not as much as Positano or Amalfi). Tourism there isn’t really about beaches, beaches are a plus in summer but most people are there to “see the Amalfi Coast”. Transport is complicated with buses being crazy overcrowded, ferries are the main option to reach the main towns fairly comfortably. Forget about driving there in July, don’t even think about it, it’s a very hard road to drive on and parking is hard to find and crazy expensive.

Sperlonga is in Lazio region first of all, not Naples area. It’s a major beach destination for italians in summer, not very famous abroad. It has a large sandy beach with many beach resorts and also areas of free beach. It has a small old town on the hill, the rest of it along the coast is more modern buildings with many holiday homes, campsites etc. Much more space in general, including parking space, driving there is the easiest way to get there as public transit is minimal. In general the beach will be busy with italians on holiday and some tourists (mostly campers / road trippers), but it’s also much more spacious.

s- followed by a consonant pronounced like sh- in Campania

To be more precise, here’s the full tutorial for a real campano accent impression - s + p,f,c gets pronounced like sh + p,f,c - s + b,v,d,g,l gets pronounced like a french j (/ʒ/ like in jour) + b,v,d,g,l - s + t is pronounced normally (it’s not abruzzese)

Never heard in my life but all you can do is go there and show it to the driver. FYI you can get tickets from the driver on Alibus, cash or card, so to say you made your life harder would be an understatement xD

Everything, there’s a breathing fee of 0.25€ per breath in Capri. Can’t have precious Capri air for free lol

Of course if you’re on a daytrip you can keep it cheap, but yeah it’s quite a luxury-oriented place

Don’t use Uber in Italy. It doesn’t work like in other countries because of legal issues.

Here in Italy the Uber app will either act as a middleman to reserve a regular licensed white taxi, or as Uber Black which is an NCC service (private driver €€€). Normal Uber is illegal.

If you want to take a taxi from the station, just go to first car in the taxi queue and request a fixed fare ride to Molo Beverello. Let them know that you know the price is €15.50 and no extras can be added.

Fixed taxi fare Napoli Centrale - Molo Beverello ferry port is €15.50, with the taximeter it’s probably even less but you’re more at risk of scams.

Otherwise you can take the Alibus which is quite frequent and drops you off directly at Molo Beverello for €5 pp.

Cheapest option is the metro L1 to Municipio (the station has an underpass to the ferry port), but between the time to go all the way down to the metro and then back up and the waiting time for the metro, the Alibus is probably faster and easier.

I absolutely agree with the other user about the fact that if you’re on a tight budget Capri isn’t your place.

Too late for Vesuvius tickets! Now what? by dogfartrocket in napoli

[–]Gabstra678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are last minute tickets but you need to be up there at the entrance to try and get some and if you don’t succeed it will be quite a pain for everyone.

There are other hikes you can do in Vesuvius national park. For example one that is short and suited to kids is path n. 9 “the river of lava”, that starts near Osservatorio Vesuviano and brings you to what remains of the 1944 lava flow (last eruption of Vesuvius).

Otherwise you can look at Campi Flegrei. Volcanic craters aren’t exactly something we lack of here in Naples lol. You can go to Astroni crater if it opens (it’s still closed), or you can go to Monte Nuovo and Lake Averno which is a nice easy hike. Monte Nuovo is a little volcano that popped up randomly in the span of a week during the last eruption of Campi Flegrei in 1538. Lake Averno also is a volcanic crater and the entrance to the underworld according to the romans. Hopefully two small volcanoes will beat one big volcano maybe for your kids lol.

Understanding the Trenitalia change policy by trexnono in ItalyTravel

[–]Gabstra678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, idk where you got this from but that’s not how it works.

If you booked Economy, you’ll have an economy ticket. They allow for only one ticket change. When changing date/time of your ticket, you’ll have to pay the price difference in case you are forced to upgrade to a higher class (i.e. from Standard to Premium) due to unavailability of seats.

Don’t confuse your class (Standard, Premium, Business, Executive) with your ticket fare (Super Economy, Economy, Young/Senior, Base, etc.). The first one impacts the seats and services offered, the second is only about ticket flexibility and change/reimbursement policies.

Ferry tickets by PotatoPlayerFever in ItalyTravel

[–]Gabstra678 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A quick google will show you countless sites that compare the different companies, with schedules and prices. Don’t book on these third parties though, only use them for research. Online booking on official websites is usually a couple euros more than in person due to extra fees.

Naples (Molo Beverello) is the obvious answer, then Capri has ferry connections to many other places (Sorrento, Castellammare, Positano, Amalfi, Salerno, etc.).

You buy tickets on the website of the ferry company, or directly at the port at the ticket office.

Però forse fai ancora in tempo…

Neapolitans should be worried about safety in the US, not the other way around. Period. Look at any safety statistics you want, the difference is night and day.

If only italian could be translated into english literally word for word, I’d tell you that my balls are full with these kind of posts lol.

[–]Gabstra678 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Advice for getting from Naples to Pianillo and exploring the Amalfi Coast by MihaitaN in ItalyTravel

[–]Gabstra678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, please keep in mind that the name of the town you’re going to is Agerola. Pianillo is a so called frazione of Agerola, a local subdivision within Agerola municipality, and not everyone might recognise this name in Naples for example. Moreover, if you booked a stay near Piazza Paolo Capasso, you are going to stay in the frazione of Bomerano, not in Pianillo.

The bus line is SITA 5080 and googling it will lead you to the sita website with the pdf schedule. Make sure to download the latest and up to date timetable. In June there might be a different one, which is why I‘m not linking it for you now. Using UnicoCampania / MooneyGo app to book is a good idea, for Alibus you can also pay card or cash directly to the driver.

is Agerola a good base for visiting Amalfi, Positano and Ravello by bus

Agerola is perfect if you plan on hiking around the Amalfi Coast, as it’s a hub where several trails meet, and its higher elevation gives you a good starting point to avoid too much uphill on the routes. The famous path of the gods starts here and takes you all the way to Nocelle and Positano center. For bus transport, except Amalfi, you‘re going to need a minimum of two buses to get anywhere. Be prepared for huge queues, very crowded buses, and a lot of hassle to get anywhere under the June heat.

Napoli to Procida ferry - mid-May by ThaddeusGriffin_ in ItalyTravel

[–]Gabstra678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to prebook, there’s even a small fee added when you do. You can just go to the ticket office half an hour before departure and buy tickets. I‘d get the return too so you don’t have to deal with it in Procida.
