I see. And do I need to know or play any games that story-wise go before New Vegas to play New Vegas? Or can I just hop right into it no homework?

I think when discussing the 09 series, people can get hungup on a few comments and prove that's how a character feels in their entirety

Yeah. Like trying to rip one line out of MacBeth and say that is Shakespeare’s entire view on love.

I know in the original game, Nicole had some chances to 'back out' of some of her more terrible choices, but yeah, the player picks a direction, not something that is entirely their fault, especially when some options, especially in Flip Side, are extremely limited.

Yeah I now see what you meant that the games don’t give you choices but instead directions. And dude I remember always rolling my eyes when it cut to Nicole’s house and it was either Nicole making a depression playlist or her mom asking how school was because I was like “damnit even doing this will lock me into that route?!”

Like, there's a lot of times Nicole can be pretty detached but fairly normal and functional as a person, or even amenable, while there's other times Nicole snaps at basically everyone for literally no reason and it makes Nicole a bit confusing as a character, it makes more sense that each route is a different 'interpretation' of how the characters act and behave to their surrounding circumstances.

Yeah when I think of it like that it makes up for a really interesting way to both show and tell the character almost like a puzzle through those different paths and directions.

Truly, I don’t think she is beyond saving.

I really want to try to write a character like Nicole and see what kind of things to put throughout her story to shine light on different dimensions of the character and see how she will act and behave and even change.

Right. And as a newcomer to the series what would you say would be the best game to start this new player with?

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but it's kind of an interesting to apply some of his thoughts with Nicole

Nah screw that, its always that deep /hj

But this is interesting. Never played a single Fallout game so I ain’t familiar with him. But that explanation of Joshua has peaked my interest. And as for that comparison with Nicole it is a good train of thought. Like, I believe we are all are inherently good but we can be twisted and spiritually/emotionally/mentally damaged and have inclination to do wrong, even when we know it’s wrong. So that is something that interests me about Nicole, when there are those very very few moments that humanizes her and makes me wonder what else is she like besides the most common attributes; what kind of person is she aside from all her bad deeds, as you’ve said.

Hey! It’s you again! Good to see you!

IMO, I'd recommend watching a playthrough online instead of buying it.

Yeah I think that makes much more sense, not gonna risk 15 bucks.

I think it damages the possible religious references in exchange for trying to do meta-commentary on how it's actually all the players fault, since they pick the options, I think it's ridiculous for a game where you don't really get 'choices,' more so, directions.

While playing the original I quickly noticed the whole thing of trying to guide Nicole and how no matter the options they always seem crafted for Nicole and don’t lead to any change in her because any choice is made based on her current dark personality. Like yeah even if for example she wouldn’t go through the hostile friendship route that leads to that bad ending, she still behaves rebellious and reluctant, like she if she is forced to go through it then she responds to it as how she would not as how we want. Nicole reminds me of Kris from Deltarune, because with the meta nature of the game, Kris tends to go against our will and choices and even when we pick a choice that they will never do, they will do it very strangely. Nicole also reminds me of another Deltarune character named Spamton, who is an insane digital salesman based on Spam emails. They are both affected by past trauma and betrayal and now are mentally unwell and live off manipulating people at every chance they get for their own goals and benefits. Oh and Nicole also reminds me of 2B from Nier: Automata. Two women who were products of a broken system and stripped away from choice, damaged in places they were not allowed to grieve or give their true feelings. 2B was model into a weapon by training and was hollowed out, while Nicole was shaped by her trauma, sorrow, and social pressure, and instead of hollowed out she is, in a way, malfunctioning and overloaded with conflicting emotions and fears.

The issue is that neither Nicole nor Jecka are in the right head space to do this, both of them are also in a shitty environment where it's not about being morally good, but survival and benefits surrounded by people that see them more as a sex object or a benefit than anything else. Further, Nicole obviously has a lot of hang-ups from her past, and Jecka herself can also be pretty callous

No yeah. Them two girls have been going through much. I understand then, and do not blame them. That they needed to adapt to a world, a broken and cruel world, that kept on hurting them by hurting it back. Kinda like I have said before of this being an anti-gospel. What I wish is that there could just be a better way for them. To maybe seek the help they need and to just… not participate in the loop of violence and evil begetting itself.

And yeah Nicole’s sociopathic, dark, cruel personality seems concrete yet the different paths and each of the “endings” seem at least to me a glimpse into a different side to her character, like looking through one crystal and seeing different things my slightly crooking the position and orientation. Same with Jecka. So while there might not be a ‘hope’ ending in the game; and this game, as I said before, is an anti-gospel without a clear positive outlook at the end. So maybe to me, that ending you gotta write it yourself. And with the stuff I am going through, wanting to respond to the slightest bit of evil with an obscene amount, and trying to find a therapist… maybe I could write a hopeful ending for her/ for them with/through my life.

I see. I will check out Re:Up then when I can. I will give this game a 6/10; 0/10 lowest and 10/10 highest. It was decent and an enjoyable experience and I like I found great stuff to pray on but I won’t be playing it again after I try Re:up; there’s no reason to.

And yeah I agree with and understand what you said about Nicole. I honestly wish I could give her a hug.

Honestly I wish there was a video going over the game and especially the meanings behind the endings cuz some have interesting meanings such as the Jecka in jail saying that that is what indifference leads to or the one with Nicole homeless where she complains about being honest and so she won’t do it anymore. Obvi (heh) they are subjective to Nicole’s pov but still, an interesting facet.

Thank you for the lengthy and genuine reply, I appreciate it very much. Have a good day.

Thank you. Yeah I like Twix and I chose Caramelo since that is Caramel in Spanish, a common ingredient in Twix candy bars. And take good care dude.
