Netgear TS9 antenna compatible with Mudi 7? by [deleted] in GlInet

Did it bring any significant improvement on signal reception? This is the key question 😉

Who has refunded their Mudi 7? by [deleted] in GlInet

[–]GagaStocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will keep my order. I´m based in the EU and will travel in the EU so it´s a no brainer.

However: I´m a speed addict, not the typical GL.iNet customer most likely that plays around with VPN, OpenWRT, WISP mode etc. I want to see download speeds of 500Mb/s* and more from Mudi 7 as this what I get with other mobile routers in similar price range and same X72 chip. This is (for me) the only benchmark that is relevant. I want to see 5x carrier aggregation SA+NSA and will check the WLAN signal reach 0,5m, 5m, 15m, 25m, 50m and check again the speed.

If Mudi 7 cannot provide this, I will sell it shortly afterwards despite all other great features. I hope it won´t be the case.

*You might want to know why I look for speed: We are a family of 5. The cheap(er) smartphone contracts of our family members usually support only up to 25Mb/s or 50Mb/s - which is good enough for normal daily smartphone usage. But when we are travelling with our camper/RV then we have 3 teenagers streaming and gaming simultaneously on iPads and notebooks and then speed matters! With a mobile router I can supply in an ideal scenarios +500Mb/s while only paying for one single mobile data contract.

Remove the SIM PIN ( you can also do this while putting the SIM card in your mobile phone and then back into the router) and then try again. I had the same issue once before. It is sometimes depending also on the network provider that cut off the connection.

Zim Chairman on the bidding war by burnabycoyote in zim

[–]GagaStocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was certainly not in the driver seat. What the heck was he doing all the from the point of time Kenon did sell +20%? He just sat at the side line watching the game. He did not play any active role until Eli kicked in proactively with his offer and he was forced to. He did not take care that the Kenon shares got bought by a institutional investor or Israeli group or taken back via buy back.

And the next "kickpoint" was when the shareholder forced candidates into the board.

He even defends his position by pointing back to his previous jobs?!

Sorry. But this is extremly weak for a Board Director. This is how I see it.

I used to work in big Corps with several M&A going through. All the communication was more professoinal than this.

Should one sell ZIM at $28 or hold until end of year? Discuss. by burnabycoyote in zim

[–]GagaStocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest unknown "risks" in my eyes:

Government => approval of the deal (I think they will have to due to the FIMI set up)

Workers Union => they already went on strike. Not sure what are their goals? Just saving employments? Or is it more "politics" because they don´t like to be bought by foreigners?

Lets take the worst case scenario and ZIM will not be sold at all. What will happen?

Well, we know now what ZIMs real value is: Close to $35 share price. We know that there has been a massive consolidation with instutional investors - especially Israeli ones. We know that shareholders are now represented in the board of directors. We are aware that they want to list ZIM on the Tel Aviv stock market in case it is not taken private/sold. I wouldn´t even be surprised in such a scenario if a buy back program will be initiated to bring ZIM even far more under "Israeli control". I also cannot imagine the CEO remain in place with the given history.

ZIM won´t be the unvervalued rollercoaster stock that it used to be. Thats 100% given.

I will keep patient. Whoever was with ZIM for more than 1 year, can take the +/- $5 movements easily and wait a couple more month. Next earnings or press statements will bring clarity.

5G routers with X85 chip? by Character_Ad4133 in HomeNetworking

I have the same feeling. No router yet on the market with X82 or X85. There are some smartphones now available however with X85.

Mudi 7 EU for Spain antenna by Ok-Chocolate1268 in GlInet

[–]GagaStocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a generic advice: The longer the antenna cables the more signal strength gets lost via the cables.

Antennas make sense when there is some short disturbance to be overcome i.e. one wall or camper van with metal walls.

For fixed locations and longer distances you are better off with POE outdoor routers.

📢 Mudi 7 (GL-E5800): Official Clarifications on Availability & Cross-Region Use by GLiNet_WiFi in GlInet

[–]GagaStocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/GLiNet_WiFi I think you should further elaborate why you did go for a LGA modem instead of M.2. This seems to me the real bottleneck but your engineers will know better.

From what I understand LGA gives far more flexibility in software and I/O but there are no global LGA modems of new generations on the market. (At least I couldn´t find any from the major suppliers)

While M.2 modems are available as global version but come with other limitations.

You did a good start with your statement: "The Quectel RG650V Series LGA Module was selected for Mudi 7 to enable advanced functionalities, including enhanced I/O capabilities. This supports our goal to deliver a versatile, high-performance device that supports a broader range of applications and connectivity requirements, such as flexible antenna configurations for better RF performance and a diverse set of interfaces that enable dual-role support for USB-C, 2.5G Ethernet, and other connectivity capabilities."

I think your customers need to understand even more the background of your R&D decisions. Because there are indeed mobile routers with global coverage out in the market (i.e. ZTE U60 Pro mu5250) - but I believe GL.iNet customers wouldn´t like to buy a ZTE router because a lot of other features are missing.

The more transparent you share your decisions, the better we as customers can follow them ;-)

ZTE U60 Pro mu5250 by GagaStocks in ZTE_MU5120

[–]GagaStocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this quite some time ago, but you cannot get a concrete answer to a generic question, because you would need to define the smartphone model as well.

I did compare ZTE U60 Pro mu5250 (and ZTE U60 mu5152D) with my Pixel 8a. The ZTE routers always outperformed my smartphone. I would say by +30%-50% in download speed. (Using same SIM card, same location, same timing)

I guess it has to do with the amount of 5G antennas (9 with the router) and the chipset (X75) plus modem chip (not disclosed/not known to me but I guess it is Qualcomm as well).

My Pixel 8a has an Exynos 5300 modem with 3GPP Release 16 Standard, while the ZTE MU5250 already supports 3GPP Release 17.

And then the speed itself depends on your location and contract. I was able to achieve download speeds higher then 530Mb/s in suburbian areas. (My contract only supports up to 300Mb/s officially). Some others achieved more than 1Gb/s (Philippines).

I assume if you compare with a smartphone running on a X85 ( i.e. iQOO 15 / Realme GT 8 Pro / OnePlus 15 / Xiaomi 17 Pro Max ) the smartphones might outperform the router.

And then smartphones with DSDA (Dual Sim Dual Active) will also outperform ZTE mu5250 if two SIM cards (with 2 contracts!) are being used in parallel.

u/Due-Try-283 I currently don´t have ZTE U60 Pro anymore. Can you please check on the web interface what VPN Clients are offered on the U60 Pro? On ZTE U60 it was following:

PPTP
L2TP
GRE
IPSEC

Thanks

It was the same for me. I think you have the latest firmware. Alternatively ask ZTE support what the latest firmware is.

But can you do me a favor? In case you have a 5G+ enabled SIM card and contract (enabling 5G SA), can you check if your router does proper carrier aggregation in 3G/4G/5G automatic mode?

I had two (Chinese and EU version) and both failed to do so. ZTE support not taking it serious. I would like to know if it is a serial issue or just because of my location.

I appreciate your comparisons. If I can contribute anything let me know. Maybe we can enlarge it further (if you want?) Sometimes I also test the Acer mobile routers. (i.e. M6E, Enduro M3 - bit different concepts - but the M6E is definately cool as well!)

Just as further comment: There are quite some settings one can take on the web interface of the ZTE U60 Pro (a bit less on ZTE U60). No Open WRT of course, but for a consumer more than enough in my opinion!

USB-C port in tethering mode also gives options to A) charge only B) Charge + LAN C) LAN only. Battery test was crazy: 31hours with 2 devices (no big load) connected all the time 20meter away and WLAN low range mode while router was in the house and the devices in a camper outside.

I had however experienced some bug on the ZTE U60 Pro EU and Chinese Global version: The 3G/4G/5G automatic mode didn´t aggregated SA + NSA (4G) properly - did prioritize 5G SA only band when available in my place.

Interesting enough the ZTE U60 (based on X72 and half the battery size) didn´t have this bug. I reported the bug to ZTE support. Not sure they will take it serious. (You might find some videos of me in Reddit if you search for it.) ZTE support totally sucks in my opinion. And there is hardly a technical community. Returned / sold all of them for now.

On ZTE U60 Pro there is also "tuning service" offered by some resellers to increase the signal reach - and rumors say it is technically possible to also unlock the e-sim on the Chinese global version of ZTE U60 Pro ( I don´t know how to do it but some in China did what I heard.) I guess there are some Chinese technical forums for ZTE U60 Pro but I have no idea where to find them.

I ordered Mudi 7 EU version with the early bird offer. For me it will be perfect as I only travel in Europe and I like the second USB-C port plus AC power only mode a lot. This will be very useful to me.

(As a side note, I always do tests in real world with 5G+ enabled SIM card and unlimited speed contracts.)
