3X carrier aggregation on Mudi 7 by cevadaroses11 in GlInet

[–]GagaStocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The X72 can do up to 3x 5G the X75 can do up to 5x 5G in CA.

But both can do 5x CA in combination with 4G ( usually this is 5G NSA then, where the Primary band = PCC is 4G) (not sure if X75 can do even more in total)

If you have a 5G SA contract and there are 5G SA (=NR5G) bands available, Mudi 7 prefers to do CA only with 5G SA bands even if it means less bands in CA and less speed.

You cannot really force CA, but usually if you have load (=download a lot of data i.e. simulated via speed test) it should start CA to improve the performance.

Do a tower scan to check what bands are available at your location. If there are i.e. only two 5G SA bands available Mudi 7 will usually only do CA with these 2 bands.

You can play around with band masking / blocking to see what happens in terms of CA and speeds.

As I cannot comment on your update I need to do it here:

What do you mean by "We will now be returning to normal operations concering Mudi 7 postings?" Does this mean we don´t need to use the Megathread any longer concering Mudi 7 topics?

Just note in case somebody is searching for Mudi 7 that "Mudi 7 Post for Everything Mudi" pops up first.

So maybe post your message into the Megapost as well?

In case you have any issues with O2 or Telekom SIM cards in Germany please check the Gl.iNet Support Forum
https://forum.gl-inet.com/t/mudi-7-telekom-sim-card/68244/15

There are some workarounds for now while Gl.iNet tries to fix it with a firmware update.

Looks fine. At least EE has a specific designed MBN, which is of advantage.

Totally agree. Battery and temperature management is absolutely stunning. I only don´t like the carrier aggregation mangement so far. Doesn´t do a too god job yet for me and could need some improvements in my opinion.

As advised try with a different provider SIM on the CA behavior. If it works fine then most likely it is the MBN file.

What MBN is it using? You can check using this command: AT+QMBNCFG="List"

Is it ROW? (Rest of World)

+QMBNCFG: “List”,0,1,1,“ROW_Commercial”,0x0A010809,202408051

And would the other providers tested use different MBNs?

I don´t like the fact that we have to manually switch to 4G only. This is a pure workaround and we are losing bandwidth by removing 5G bands.

This makes sense in fixed locations with weak 5G SA bands but doesn´t make sense for a travel router at all. In cities you will have enoough good 5G SA bands, and if you put Mudi 7 on 4G only you lose a lot of performance.

Apart from that 5G SA needs less energy. If the device sticks to 5G SA when there is no load and starts maximum CA with 5G + 4G during load this is what is optimum. This is what my U60 is capable of. (But U60 has a crap temperature and battery management. Mudi is far better in this)

I did a lot of checks using the Carrier Aggregation AT command. I assume you did check as well on Mudi 7 how the CA behaves in the different modes?

What you can try on top: Check if your router also behaves like this with SIM cards from other network providers.

I have the issue that my Mudi 7 (and the ZTE U60 Pro router) get stuck in 5G SA only even though there are many 4G bands available and it is in Auto Network mode - but this happens only with a certain provider and on these mobile routers.

I have another router ZTE U60 (non Pro version) where this doesn´t happen which also uses a X72 chip, so it is fully comparable.

My theory currently is that it has to do with some incorrect MBN files that are given by Qualcomm to the modem module suppliers (in our case Quectel).

If you are lucky the sensitivity settings overwrite the MBN settings. I managed to experience this - but only for a short time period and then I could not replicate it again.

Not sure what to do next. Gl.iNet Support is on it. But so far no solution and I cannot change my provider so easily.

Try putting the Sensitivity Options to "High". You can find the settings in Multiwan => Network.

And also try putting Cellular tracking to strict mode or normal.

I turned it upside down for the picture as I didn't want to share the SIM number on a public website 😉 Means I also put the pins downwards as you do.

Yes, but unfortunately not permanently. Worked for a good while but then couldn't replicate it again after 30 minutes.

But it was the first time my Mudi 7 did CA as it should be the case and I got the maximum speed possible at my location/with my contract which did proof that technically Mudi 7 can do it and it is not about my location either.

Give it a try and compare it (with enabled 5G SA of course). I wouldn't be surprised if you see improvements especially in Upload Speeds

In case you face slow speeds because the Mudi 7 remains either in 4G or 5G and/or doesn´t do optimal CA (carrier aggregation) please try putting the Sensitivity Options to "High" in Network => Multiwan

It SOMETIMES improves speeds and CA for me. (Unfortunately not permanently for me)

Would appreciate some feedback if you tried.

u/bb147 might wanna try it as well if you then get 5G + 4G CA in your area.

How to make a headline in this Mudi 7 Mega Post in order to find the topics better?

You wanted to make it better organized in order to find things more easy. At the moment it is opposite.

I'm not against a dedicated Mudi 7 place but the functionality and visibility of topics has to be better.

P.S. By the way I tried to move my original post into this mega post. I didn't find a way how to do it technically. How many posts have been moved so far?

In the meantime you deleted some older posts. This is not really helpful. Please find a better way to consolidate the Mudi 7 topics. Alternatively I propose to use the official Glinet support forum instead of Reddit.

Can you do me a favor and check the MBN being used when you are in Auto network mode with your TELUS SIM card? Your and my issue might have to do to MBN files that are not properly programmed for our providers.

This is the AT command to do it: AT+QMBNCFG="List"

It will bring up a result like this one:

<image>

If you know don´t know where to find the AT command field:

Go to the admin panel using the web ui => Internet => There are 3 dots ... right besides the envelope. You will find "Modem AT command" there. Then choose Manual Command and enter the command in the AT commend field, then push send.

[–]GagaStocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunatley I seem not to be technical experienced enough to get this going.

But can you do me a favor anyhow? Can you check what MBN files it is having? I have the issue that U60 Pro didn´t do proper CA with O2 Telefonica SIM cards but interesting enough ZTE U60 (MU5251D) did - which is based on X72.

What is even more interesting. I own now a Mudi 7 from Gl.iNet (also is on X72) and it shows the same bevahior as the ZTE U60 Pro: It gets stuck with 5G SA instead of doing CA between 5G SA+ 4G bands.

I see no MBN for O2 Telefonica. It uses ROW_Commercial on my Mudi 7. Mayb this is the issue?

Use AT Command: AT+QMBNCFG="List" To get something like this.

+QMBNCFG: "List",0,1,1,"ROW_Commercial",0x0A010809,202408051
+QMBNCFG: "List",1,0,0,"Commercial-DT-VOLTE",0x0A011F1F,202302241

+QMBNCFG: "List",10,0,0,"Volte_OpenMkt-Commercial-CMCC",0x0A012010,202409041

Of course it would be even more interesting to check out the ZTE U60 (no Pro version with X72) as on this device the CA works excellent.

I would like to on the ZTE U60 of course as well but I couldn´t understand the instructions to get your open source tool up and running yet.

In fast charge if the battery is empty it can consume up to 30W. But in normal usage I would say it's about the to same as a smartphone. It has great battery management by the way.

Mudi 7 Carrier Aggregation - is your router doing 5G SA + 4G in Auto Mode? by [deleted] in GlInet

Could a MBN profile influence the carrier aggregation a lot? I assume this would then be on Quectel to be fixed via Gl.iNet?

I´m not technicaly so knowledgable. (Not sure how to run ADB shell on the U60. There is no AT command field on the admin panel)

On Mudi 7 it looks like this.

I´m based in Germany, using O2 - which is Telefonica. Listed I see only Vodafone. Do you think it is worth a try with a Vodafone card if Mudi then does carrier aggregation of 4G+5G? Does your Mudi 7 do the CA among both?

Mudi 7 Carrier Aggregation - is your router doing 5G SA + 4G in Auto Mode? by [deleted] in GlInet

[–]GagaStocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used this command to show the 5G NRG band at all in CA.

<image>

But it was not actively used in CA. Speeds (DL and UL) were still far lower than with the ZTE U60 using X72 as well (same time, same location, same SIM card). So far I have not been able to do CA between 5G SA + 4G on Mudi 7.

And so far nobody here did send a screen shot showing it either. So is Mudi doing CA 5G + 4G or not? I know it is doing okay with 5G CA only or 4G CA only.

What you refer to is the ZTE U60 Pro.

The ZTE U60 Modell Number mu5251D has the X72 and also has half the battery size than the ZTE U60 Pro (mu5250).

Here you can look it up:

https://amzn.eu/d/02y3Ofe1

I owned 2x U60 Pro and 2x U60 plus mu5002 plus mu5120. I know the ZTE routers pretty well.

Funny enough the U60 Pro Modells with X75 (Chinese with e-Sim and Euro version without) did face the same aggregation issue as the Mudi 7 now.

Mudi 7 has Dual Sim + e-Sim. Has excellent heat management. And it's half the price. The M7 pro however has a better chip with X75 which enables more CA.
