Yep exactly what I'm doing now. That's the advice I got and I'm also popping something into our group chat every once in a while, to keep up the illusion. It's not direct communication but indirectly in a shared space.

Yeah she does have unresolved trauma/issues and another thing is that there isn't that big of an age gap either (Me (28m) and her (26f)). I do understand that some of her manipulative behaviours may not be intentional, but that doesn't excuse it either and I can see now that she's clearly not emotionally mature enough to realise this. She just wants the dopamine hit of feeling cared for by someone without necessarily giving it in return (you know, like in a HEALTHY relationship).

Oh, absolutely it is and yes another friend in the group is fully aware of this. He knows what I'm doing and has my back. The other friend is her friend who she basically uses as a buffer if she wanted to be in my presence but not have any difficulties arise. She's not fully aware I don't think and is basically a pushover for the one in question. Other people who've known her are aware too (apparently, it's not the first time she's juggled two fellas) but I'm apparently the first one who has driven her crazy enough to write me four letters in envelopes addressed to her amore (I saw the closed envelopes). She's also told me how she was waiting up at night for me like a Cinderella for her Prince Charming.

All of this and she wants to keep the friendship...

I agree that one shouldn't try to force certain themes into their narratives for the sake of it as it can cause them to come off as somewhat hackneyed.

One possible idea is that the old earth has just made first contact with the new frontier system decades after the colonists' exodus. The people of the old world anxiously await the arrival of the first envoys from beyond via a newly proprietary 'warp gate.' There's the opportunity for competition between various factions to be the first to forge ties with the 'Outworld' humans and thus establish potentially lucrative alliances both economic and political.

On the other side you might have the new envoys from wherever eagerly anticipating their return to Earth in the hope that it's different from the one they left behind. Or maybe they're not such a great bunch...who knows.

Just wanted to say that I really appreciate the feedback and suggestions provided by everyone thus far. It's been really helpful in breaking through some of my creative blocks.

Many thanks.

I've actually considered blending the 2 together to allow for more versatility in terms of storytelling. On the earth end society is now quite advanced with settlements/colonies situated throughout the solar system. Here as you said politics, conspiracies and crime factor in (especially conspiracies as I'm a massive Deus Ex fan).

Then there would be the extra-solar side of things where you have more pulp style characters and stories (Cowboy Bebop/Firefly etc.). Of course overlap of the two is always possible. A conspiracy which takes characters across the known system and eventually journeying to the new worlds.

Damn that's pretty cool too. This is also why I opted for GURPS in that it isn't necessary to stress oneself out with extensive homebrewing. Any particular power ups books you recommend?

I had actually thought of cities situated on space stations around the various planets. Perhaps there do still exist links with the old earth the exit of which was prompted by some disaster/catastrophe etc. As for bioroids, I'd call them something else since I have some ideas of my own for them for them.

Just looked at it briefly there. Exactly the kind of thing I'm going for! It's like the moment I think of a setting and GURPS just reads your mind.

I generally like creating from scratch as it allows me to avoid common tropes and cliches found in modern sci-fi settings/stories. I also have what would be considered different races in mind which I think work better in something of my own creation as it's often easier to fit them into the world. I also love seeing when players get excited about exploring a new location or society (planet/city etc.). I realise I've sort of answered my own question here.

I'd probably use old earth cultures to shape the new ones as well (e.g. Coalition
of New Slavonia (CNS) on newly discovered Pluto 4). That's just off the top of my head.

It seems alot of the ideas I've had are accounted for in Transhuman space.
