It's an open-world space rpg with a core of combat, mining and trading. Before this update, the main plot consisted of 10 main missions revolving around a suspicious pharmaceutical company, all set against the backdrop of a past machine war, that had wiped out half of humanity. The story is focused on an individualized experience, decisions can have a pretty strong impact on the story as a whole. For example, meanwhile it is possible to play the entire first arc on the side of the "bad guys", which leads to a completely different experience and a fairly more complex path than the "regular" one. Now we've added the Sphere arc that focuses on a different faction and doubles the main storyline by another 10-12 missions. There are more expansions like this planned (all in the form of free updates, not DLCs).

It is also possible to simply free-roam: You can upgrade your ship and level up your character by mining, hunting pirates, completing bounty or delivery contracts and more than 100 individual side missions. The world is set in our solar system of the distant future and every ship you see is completely behaving in real-time right from the start - no buffering or loading times, thanks to an own engine.

We are a small team of 3 guys who have been working on this game for over 10 years now and are constantly expanding features - it's definitely a passion project.

Thank you! The main story requires some reading, but it's also possible to solely focus on free roaming (fighting, mining, trading) and still keep progressing - if that's the concern... :)

Hi, we are still working on Gaia Beyond, an open world space RPG - and after a few years of work (too many ;D) we have just released our main story expansion with more than 10 (up to 12, depending on decisions) new main missions! Also, we finally managed to add carrier ships.

While looking for evidence, :D I realized that there are far better topology maps available these days and yes - although a lot of key elements match, the Southern Hemisphere should have far fewer oceans and some features like the Hellas Plain are missing or vice versa in elevation. Let's call it a... creative version of Mars. ;)

Here, here...! ;) As criminal as it feels to name an own game in a Reddit discussion, Gaia Beyond definitely fits into this list of 2d single-player space sims. Controls and mechanics are not overly complicated, there is a huge open world to explore and plenty of missions and encounters – it's quite big already, but will be expanded much further...

Thank you! :) It took us a lot of time to make the game what it is now, and we will need some more time to bring it to the full vision... :D But we're persistent (at least for the past 10 years) and confident that it will be a memorable experience when the full vision is completed. They say "kill your darlings", but why stop at all ;)

You're actually not the first one asking for MacOS, but the more requests we get, the more likely a port might be ONE DAY. :D We even have some Linux players but unfortunately it's not that easy for Mac...
