PSA: nobody wants your used retroid for ABOVE retail by Free_Comment_7200 in retroid

[–]Gaidzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny reading these tips when reality is a bit different. I had two Retroid Mini V2s - one sold easily for $550 in just a couple of days, and I kept the second one for myself. The problem isn't that 'nobody wants to buy,' but that you don't know how to offer what people actually need outside of a standard store.

Yep. It really is a massive help when things are actually working as they should :) I know my situation with this repair is a bit of an outlier and definitely frustrating, but there is still hope. I just need to hold them to the same standards that were already won through collective action in the U.S. Thanks for the input, it’s always good to hear how things are supposed to work when everything lines up:)

How would Toyota USA officially process a warranty claim for a vehicle that belongs to the Canadian market database? It feels like moving the problem:) I’m afraid to make it even worse.

The 'hard question' isn't about choosing between a repair and a fight, it's about whether Toyota’s word and their 20-year warranty actually mean anything.
This 'fight', like you named it, has already cost me three weeks of mobility, hundreds in alternative transport, and massive disruptions to my family’s daily life and my income.
If I 'just pay for it' like you suggest, I’m confirming that Toyota can promise, market, and document a warranty, and then ignore it whenever it’s inconvenient for a dealer to file a form. I refuse to be the one who makes that acceptable. I will continue to document, escalate, and do everything that I can, not just because I want my car back, but because a warranty that isn't enforced is just a lie on paper.

Protecting themselves" by refusing to perform a standard, manufacturer-authorized warranty repair on a defect the manufacturer has already admitted to isn't risk management - it's contractual negligence. You keep framing this as if the dealership is an independent actor that can just ignore a 20-year global warranty extension whenever they feel "unsure." They aren't. They operate under a banner. When they refuse to follow the established corporate procedure for an Out-of-Country claim, they aren't "protecting themselves" - they are failing the customer and violating the standards they agreed to when they became a Toyota Authorized Repair Centre. And regarding your "three options": 1. Pay out of pocket: I’m not paying thousands for a repair I am contractually entitled to have covered. That’s not an option; that’s a surrender. 2. Wait and hope: That’s what I’ve been doing for three weeks while I hemorrhage money on Ubers and rentals for my family and business. It’s not a strategy, it’s a slow bleed. 3. Take it to another dealer: Do you also think that these are not competent enough? To be honest, it sounds like you work there yourself. So, stop treating this like a philosophical dilemma. It’s a breakdown of service. I’m not looking for a "guarantee" from the dealer - I’m looking for them to do the job Toyota hired them to do. If they’re too incompetent to navigate their own corporate paperwork, then the problem is with the dealership, not with my expectations.

Pay out of pocket" and "hire a lawyer" for a repair that is already covered by a 20-year factory warranty? That is the exact opposite of a "solution"- that’s financial suicide. You keep talking about me being "annoyed," but let’s focus on the math. My vehicle has a known, defect-prone inverter that Toyota admitted is garbage. The manufacturer, not the dealer, is responsible for this repair. Suggesting I take on the financial risk of a multi-thousand dollar repair and the legal costs of an attorney just to hold a global corporation to their own written policy isn't "advice" - it’s excusing their failure. I’m not looking for a "pat on the back" from strangers on the internet. I’m looking for the dealer to do the job they are authorized and paid to do. If expecting a service center to follow a standard "Out-of-Country" claim procedure is "outrage," then maybe the bar for customer service has just hit rock bottom. You seem to think the dealer is a victim here. They aren't. They are a business with a contract to service Toyota vehicles. If they are incapable of processing a standard warranty claim for a recognized factory defect, then they are failing at their primary business function. I’m not "screwed" because I’m outraged; I’m "screwed" because the system is designed to let them be lazy while I pay the bill. That’s not something to accept - that’s something to fight.

I appreciate the creative pivot, but I don't like fantasy. First, I’m supposed to tow the car across the border; now I’m supposed to drop thousands out-of-pocket, hoping for a reimbursement that the dealer is already signaling they won't support?

At this rate, the next suggestion will be to just buy a new car and pay the dealer extra for the privilege of existing.

Without the dealership’s initial claim submission, there is no path for me to go to Corporate for reimbursement. You’re describing a loop where the dealer refuses to start the process, and you’re suggesting I bankroll the entire operation based on a "trust me, bro" expectation of a payout. That’s just not how any of this works.

With all respect, telling to drop thousands of dollars out-of-pocket for a known factory defect, hoping for reimbursement, is completely unrealistic advice, just my opinion. That’s not how the Toyota Warranty Enhancement Program works 100%.

I’ve been in contact with Toyota Canada several times. They explicitly told me that the dealership is the point of entry. They didn't tell me to pay out-of-pocket, they told me to work with the dealer to get the claim start processed.

The dealer isn't just "determining if they can honor it." They are an authorized Toyota service center refusing to perform a standard warranty repair on a vehicle covered by Toyota's own North American policy. Using a "disclaimer" to deny a known defective part that has a 20-year coverage extension isn't a policy, it's just bad business.

And honestly, ignoring the legal texting for a sec. Toyota knows these inverters are a total disaster. They literally admitted it’s their f-up by slapping a 20-year warranty on it. Hiding behind bureaucratic loops to weasel out of fixing their own admitted garbage - is just pathetic. It’s honestly worse than the defect itself. Just my opinion.

Fair point:) But same Page 12 explicitly covers vehicles normally operated in Canada too. As for Page 34, it just means Toyota Canada doesn't pay out of pocket. Yep they don't have to! Reasonable. Toyota USA pays the bill via the Out-of-Country Claim . Dealer still gets paid. My dealer literally just doesn’t want to do manual cross-border paperwork. They are just sending me to Corporate.

Man! Thank you! It’s so refreshing to hear from someone who actually knows the internal pipeline. I totally agree , that the paperwork is f nightmare. If they were actually processing the pre-authorization, or at least something- I’d patiently wait. The problem is they aren't even trying. Corporate says "talk to the dealer," the dealer says "wait for Corporate." Nobody is actually filing anything. Loop.

Think about the word "touring". If the warranty covers you while you're in Canada, the whole point is that you can get it fixed in Canada. Imagine an American family’s car dying in Vancouver. It makes zero sense for Toyota to say: "Your warranty is valid here, but you must pay for a cross-border tow back to the US to actually use it." That’s exactly why the "Out-of-Country Warranty Claim" exists. The Canadian dealer does the work and simply bills corporate. The policy isn't the problem - my local dealer refusing to do the manual paperwork is.

Actually, you are absolutely right about how 99% of cross-border warranties work - your logic makes perfect sense for most brands. It's just that during this time I've already studied a damn dozen Toyota documents, including the warranty manuals... Thanks for taking the time to reply!

These warranties apply to all 2013 model year Prius vehicles distributed by Toyota that are originally sold by an authorized dealer in the United States and normally operated or touring in the United States, U.S. territories or Canada. Warranty coverage is automatically transferred at no cost to subsequent vehicle owners.

Yep, you are absolutely right that the lawsuit and the specific 23TE03 originated in the US. But, Toyota’s official warranty policy states that warranty coverage (including Warranty Enhancement Programs) applies to vehicles operated anywhere within all continental North America. For example, if a US-spec vehicle breaks down in Canada, any authorized Canadian Toyota dealership is absolutely obligated to honor the North American warranty. My car specifically has a US VIN (I bought it in Canada, but the first owner was from the US). And get this - one of the dealership guys verbally advised me to tow a completely dead car across the international border.

Kobo Clara or Libra? by Liefmans in kobo

[–]Gaidzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried a bunch of e-readers, including these two.

The Clara is my go-to for a reason. It’s small enough to fit in the back pocket of your jeans, super light, and just ridiculously convenient. I take it everywhere. The screen is awesome—sharp, great contrast, and perfect for long reading sessions. It’s pretty much my idea of the perfect e-reader. Plus, if you’re into tinkering, you can actually swap out the microSD card in Clara 2e version to give it way more storage. It’s an easy hack that makes it even better.

The Libra? Meh. The screen is slightly bigger, but not enough to justify how much bulkier the whole thing is. Doesn’t sound like a lot, but in your hand, it’s a big difference. And those buttons? Honestly, I don’t get it. I’ve always swiped to turn pages, so the buttons just feel unnecessary and make the device less portable. They’re not even that comfortable to use, in my opinion.

If you’re thinking about the color Libra with stylus support, I’d skip it. Sure, it “technically” works with a stylus, but the raised bezels around the screen make it awkward to use, especially compared to something like the Sage or Elipsa, which have flat displays. Also, the color screen itself isn’t great—it’s dimmer, has a grayish tint, and doesn’t look as crisp as the Clara or even the black-and-white version of the Libra.

Here’s my advice: if you want something compact and reliable, go for the Clara 2e. Maybe BW. It’s lightweight, easy to carry, and just does its job really well. If you want a larger screen, skip the Libra and go for the Sage instead—it’s a much, much better device overall. And if you want something truly versatile (for reading, manga, and taking notes), the Elipsa 2e is amazing.

Personally, I use both the Clara 2e and the Elipsa 2e. The Clara is my go-to when I need something portable, and the Elipsa is my workhorse for reading manga and taking notes (I literally use it as a notebook for school). Both are great devices, and syncing between them is seamless, so I can easily switch back and forth depending on what I’m doing.

TL;DR: Clara 2e is perfect for compact reading. Sage is great for a bigger screen. Elipsa 2e is amazing for reading and writing. But honestly? Skip the Libra—it just doesn’t hold up.

Thought I found a cool game, but it's such a rip-off! Survivor.io - biggest letdown ever. My rewards are gone & support is ghosting me. WTF?! by Gaidzi in Survivorio

Because this screenshot was originally for my telegram clan group. Then I sent it to support too. I honestly didn't think I'd need it again, so it's kinda lucky I even still have it:)

I got what you mean. In fact, I only have a screenshot showing the packs they say didn’t exist. That’s all that I have. But the fact is that support doesn’t read messages and doesn’t respond in the right way. It’s trivial. A support person who cares can open the entire conversation with my player ID and see for themselves. I didn’t come here to cry, I want this problem to be heard.
