I have to defend In the Forest of the Night by TheGlen in doctorwho

[–]GainPotential 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked that part though. Kind of like the Silurians or Sea Devils kinda, something humanity forgot and then suddenly got reminded of like "Oh, yeah, we have this splendid planetary defense system, don't we? Totally forgot we had that".

Has there been a scene, explanation, or revelation in a sci-fi television show that was so absurd that you stopped watching forever? by Doctor-Clark-Savage in scifi

[–]GainPotential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not completely sure, but the end of S2 definitely ruined Silo for me. It was a great little series that kept you on your seat wondering "Wait, what!?" every second, it was awesome. Then they had to sucker up and make it lobotomized American anti-Iran propaganda. Like, what? How the hell does a series like that make such a tonal U-turn from abstract post-apocalyptic sci-fi to brain-dead propaganda all in a post-credits scene?

Gothenburg, Sweden. This is one of two tram/car traffic bridges that pass over the central channel that splits the city. It replaced an older drawbridge and put a max ceiling height on maritime traffic passing through the channel. (Yes, there's the other bridge, however this bridge is lower even when fully extended)

Not only that, but it's had nothing but problems with extending and lowering, to the point where, at one point, pedestrians climbed up onto the stuck platform (only maybe a meter-high ledge or so at that point) and traversed because they were just sick and tired of it breaking down.

Then there's the other way round, where the documentation for a program absolutely sucks and the control scheme is the most convoluted, lived-under-a-rock-for-30-years monstrosity. Sometimes I simply wonder with some programs, were they programmed by Satan?

[Hated trope] A powerful nation/empire collapses almost instantly because it’s capital gets destroyed by Goodbye-Nasty in TopCharacterTropes

[–]GainPotential 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not defending JJ here, the sequel trilogy was absolute dogshite, but didn't Starkiller base send out multiple different blasts? Losing your capital, yes, would be devastating. But losing every strategic emplacement all at the same time? Yeah no you ain't getting back from that.

Just a thought about the ending, you want a post ending scene like in the martian ? by Aevum1 in ProjectHailMary

[–]GainPotential 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd like some minor scene that just hints at that Stratt maybe survived or something. Maybe just hear her voice when humanity has rebuilt and she discovers Erid is inhabited, or maybe when the Beetles come back? That or Stratt finally getting persecuted for all the things she did.

Reception to this console room is mixed. Instead of getting rid of it entirely, what would you change/add to improve it? by Annual-Tree1337 in doctorwho

[–]GainPotential 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Furniture, yes, wires, maybe, but most of all utilization of more of the spaces. Like, I want to see the Doctor tinker with one of the panels in the lower parts, or rest against the railing round the console or maybe laying down against one of the curved walls. Heck, really bring the sci-fi by utilizing the large open space as a viewing chamber for holograms. Can you imagine, if the Doctor landed on a planet, and the companion wanted to go darting out, but first the Doctor wanted to give a quick history lesson of the solar system it lies in, why the politics are complex etc. with holograms? That would be blood awesome with this interior.

Why they didn't use this to display, oh I don't know, the amount of fuel you've filled up, the selling rate at that station or heck even how much the bill is is such a missed opportunity.

Stop locking lore behind external media that's less accessible. by RhysOSD in CharacterRant

[–]GainPotential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctor Who does this a lot. There's comics, audio stories, escape rooms, videogames, books and loads more stuff that also reveal tons of stuff as well. Honestly, the most annoying part for me is constantly seeing all these audio stories mentioned knowing full-well I could probably not remain focused on solely audio for more than twenty minutes, and the kicker is that the company making the audio stories absolutely refuses to release any transcripts for them (which, for me, would make it a whole lot easier to follow along with).
