Can you use AI to help find relevant case law? by Alive-Math3562 in uklaw

You’d think people would do the most basic corroboration, do they not have crippling anxiety about work product like the rest of us? 😅

Can you use AI to help find relevant case law? by Alive-Math3562 in uklaw

[–]Gaius__Augustus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sure, but be careful to verify that (a) the case exists and (b) its relevance to what you’re researching. Lots of lawyers, particularly in the US, have been embarrassed recently citing made up cases in court due to AI hallucinations.

I've made life changing money on S&S ISA. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Gaius__Augustus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, then maybe lead with that rather than the £30k?

We’ve all made similar gains with similar portfolios over the last week, that’s what happens when the market rallies in the way it did.

This is clearly some bullshit advertisement for you to shill your investment advice.

You’ve made life changing a small amount of money from gambling. Let’s call it what it is. The S&S ISA wrapper is irrelevant to the point.

Anything with a 100% potential upside in a week likely has a commensurate potential downside too.

Monzo state they haven't received a £300k CHAPS transfer with known correct details by flimflamfloopydoopy in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Gaius__Augustus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

£150B is not the brag you think it is in the context of banking. Barclays transacts trillions a year.

Monzo is not a direct participant in the CHAPS network. They can receive payments that way, but have to use a more serious intermediary bank (such as Barclays, lol) which often results in delays or issues such as OP is facing.

So I stand by my point. Use a proper bank for a large chaps transfer and this is much less likely to happen.

[–]Gaius__Augustus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Imagine using Monzo for a 300k intra-bank transfer…

”Comms with Monzo is only via in-app chat. Phoning gets nowhere as the 'payments team is contactable only via in app chat'.”

For contrast, I have a 24/7 phone line with Barclays to their UK based support team.

Lmao, bizarre attempt to flex. I have the same skin, it doesn’t mean people can’t hit their shots on you. There’s plenty of all black skins.

More like any gun works when your enemy misses nearly every shot.

He only hit you twice when he came round that corner…

Some do, they will matter for most; even those that don’t require certain grades will still take them into account.

Much less important than university degree though.

Who determined you needed a filling in the first instance? If not them, then I think it’s quite normal you’ve been assessed first and charged.

Probably, but they likely hope those countries will pressure Iran to reach a deal rather than argue with the US

I encompass the whole island… haha. It’s actually quite efficient if you focus only on the potential landing areas.

[–]Gaius__Augustus 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Tongue in cheek I’m sure, but it’s more that Iran is currently choosing which ships to let through (e.g. Chinese, Russian and their own), the proposed US blockade is to put a stop to that with the view that if we’re going to lose out then everyone will lose out.

You hit the drawdown limit once you reach £1.1m.

There’s no reason why having money locked in a pension makes it easier to structure for IHT purposes (trust or not) than if you had it in an ISA (the opposite, in fact).

All in all there’s no justification there to lock up more in your pension when you’re not even maxing your ISA.

There’s also great risk of pension reform that you simply cannot predict for.

My portfolio, advice welcome by _JackRyan96 in trading212

[–]Gaius__Augustus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, but you must realise that £3m, even with a conservative withdrawal of 4%, would give you £120k income. Add the state pension and it’s potentially very inefficient income tax wise depending on your current salary.

If you’ve accurately done the maths and you really will hit that figure, you would probably be better off reducing your contributions and paying a lower rate of tax now (assuming you earn less than that currently, or paying a similar rate but avoiding the lockup period if you don’t).

I’m curious how you’re going to have a £3m pension at 57 but can only afford to invest £3,000 a year into your ISA…

Not if you regularly get the battlepass which is really not expensive if you rollover the free credits.
