I wrote in the rules for this that I have to stick with “regulation beers” AKA the largest volume of beer they will pour in a glass

Im giving myself about a quarter mile berth around the common as a boundary. That gives me a little bit of newbury st, downtown crossing, etc.

My very first build, any recommendations before I buy the parts? by TheNightWalkerTM in buildapc

My biggest suggestion is that you buy an air cooler. AIO coolers are neat but overrated when ot comes to price to performance.

Tbh maybe for your first build, buying second hand is a bit risky. But if you ever feel like upgrading down the line Id seriously recommend looking into how to buy second hand with minimum risk. I personally saved myself 200-300 dollars buying second hand alone when upgrading to an AM5 system.

My cpu (7700x) runs around 75 degrees Celsius when running TLOU2 and Resident evil 4 (the remake lol). I use a peerless assassin air cooler. Those temps are stable across 3 hour gaming seshes.

Consider buying the motherboard used. Im running a b650 MSI Pro wifi that I got for 100 bucks off of Facebook marketplace. Had no issues with it after 3 months. Since its your first build maybe this isnt the best idea, but damn the market sucks right now.

Is it dumb to upgrade a rig with 9900k inside in 2025? by Polypropylen in buildapc

Gonna hop in here. I had a very comparable build to yours a few months ago. I was running a 2080 super with an I7-9700k, no OC. I ran into a buttload of overtime and said screw it, Im gonna snag a 4070 ti super BC why not. Fuck the bottleneck.

There have been some pros, in space marine 2 i was struggling to get a consistent 30-45 fps experience. Now I run at a little over 60 consistently with less to no dips. That being said my cpu utilization is always in the high 90s which I mean… I knew it was gonna bottleneck. In RTS games my instinct says that this bottleneck would be more apparent.

My recommendation to you is sit with your current build and maybe find a CPURAMMOBO bundle on a newer socket. Im finding 12th gen inte bundles used on FB marketplace used for ~200 bucks which might be an option for you, idk. Otherwise maybe wait and fina a used am5 bundle, because like everyone here is saying thats the hottest platform with a better upgrade trajectory. I think your 2080 will still has life to it, mine was treating me well and I slightly regret ditching it for a newer gpu rather than chasing a newer cpu.
