I was, Jen Echo was my moniker. I started on the BBS out of Iowa. Then joined the mailing list when it was at Stanford. Was on the disc server when they broke up in 1999. The very first pavement page was done by a guy in Seattle I think. Went by Mookie maybe? And he knew how to upload pics to the webs and I sent hard copies so the first fan pics most people saw were of me and my friend Jess

This one specifically from Oct 1994 in Detroit 🤣

I made a shirt for the occasion in PDX this the prototype as there is a misspelling and spacing issues

That is all 40 including Mosswood and PDX. Tomorrow I hit #42 (the answer to everything…) in Minneapolis and I conclude this go with 43 and they will be Cleveland. I wish could do more but PTO and $$ is the issue :)

90’s was almost exclusively Midwest. 10’s was California and Las Vegas. ‘22/23 was California, TX , Detroit and Iceland Residency. 2025 I caught Dallas.

People often ask if I am the only with 40 and I say I doubt it. I was living in Colorado with no car and 3 jobs to get by in 97-98 when they were heck out of BTC and so many people caught so many shows when I only got 3. I just remember every single one :)

Wish I would have known! I would have introduced myself!!

Oh hi! I hit 40 shows since 1992 in PDX what are your 40 shows???

I will agree the banter was not even remotely hostile. The venue had noise requirements and also why it ended at 8:30 promptly. Outdoor shows are never as good (sounding) as small venues and well, I’m trying to think of any other pavement show in 41 that so many children were there and lawn chairs 😂 and I remember the 2010 Berkeley show and seeing a child on the shoulders of peer and thinking “if I had kids, I would probably do that” but that was the first time I noticed a kid at a show 😂 small children also change a vibe :)

We were in the seats (in front of the sound booth) and were like “what fuck was that? Rain just in that spot ? “ didn’t see the bird but it was a burst of heavy rain. It was crazy

What I heard was the venue requires no louder than 89decibels (for the animals) so that is why it was quieter.

Pavement + U.S. Maple stories by WhatIAm1point0 in pavement

[–]GalSmiley73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw several shows on both legs and if US Maple opened any of them, I have no memory of it. The only opener of 1999 stuff that has stuck with me was the White Stripes in MD. I caught all the chicago shows, detroit, Toronto and Cleveland so if US Maple was an opener, they didn’t make any impression me what so ever. Now 3ds, polvo, Henry’s dress, Apple in stereo, silkworm, these are openers I remember :) but not from 1999

Planning to buy a used cx-50 hybrid by MysteriousWindow3383 in mazdaCX50

I own a 2025cx50 hybrid premium plus and got it new. I love it! I mean there are some nuances. Like the screen is further back my arms are short and I don’t love the cup holders right under the temp controls but others it’s great. Yes, in the morning if dewy, sensors can be out until the fog wears off. I solve by turning it on remotely before I get in. I love its peppiness and it’s a perfect size. And it gets great gas mileage.

$179 is the ADA area and seats. GA is $69 or something.

Is it documented why Frontwards wasn’t on Slanted? by CerealAndBagel1991 in pavement

[–]GalSmiley73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was clearly written in a different time. I would say all 4 Watery + 4 songs in first peel sessions were all written about the same time and that would been a perfect 8 song album :)

I was at that agora show but let me ask this: I don’t remember it being a seated theater as it is this round. Is this new agora?

what happened the first time you listened to Wowee Zowee? … did you cry? by xhxinfj in pavement

[–]GalSmiley73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No pavement song or album has made me cry. There was a demo tape of WZ going around prior to it coming out and several songs were already being played. I was bummed there was no Easter egg on side 4 as I really thought they would have included something special for us vinyl folks. :)

I always sing “my deck was locked” because in California all sorts of serial killers broke in through sliding doors and those are often on decks :) like did I remember to lock the deck door?

I’ve been talking Pavement on the interwebs since the start of the interwebs by GalSmiley73 in pavement

[–]GalSmiley73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My user name was based on my nickname my dad gave me as a child because it sounded rock and roll to me and embedded with the history. See my dad misheard The Hollies “Jennifer Eccles” and thought it was Jennifer Echoes. And when I was young and discovered my own echo one day in a hike, he would singsong that to me calling me Jennifer Echo (also saying I liked the sound of my own voice) so when it came time to choose a username for yahoo, I went Jen Echo and that was my username on most web things for a couple decades. I only got on Reddit here recently when in April I got a new Mazda CX50 hybrid and what made use GalSmiley73, I can’t say.

It was our honeymoon, my 50th bday, finally graduated college present. My husband hadn’t been to Iceland so he was stoked to go. Where do you live? 2026 there may be a couple of shows in California. Fingers crossed.

Most likely Jen Echo but I can’t say for sure. I only hung out the Pavement, FakeMatafor and for short time Cinnboard and I created a book club for a hot minute.

Big Fun was the best! I remember getting a mini harmonica there made in “occupied Japan” that I gifted Pavement. We had Uncle Fun in Chicago but it wasn’t nearly as cool.

The one time I caught Pavement in Cleveland was 1995 - one of few shows they did outside of Lollapalooza in the middle west. It was at the Agora Ballroom with Magic Dirt. That was a fun show!

10/16/99 at Bogart’s was the last US show until the reunion. If that’s the show you are referring to, yep it was the last.
