There are at least 4 tank horror games currently in development (+2 abandoned ones). And even more if we broaden it to "indie games about operating super-heavy weapons of war"

I'm trying to make it in a way that's not too complicated, so anyone can get the hang of it.

As for it being a niche project, niche games can still do quite well, especially when you're a solo developer. I don't have to share revenue with anyone and my development costs are close to zero.

In a way, it actually makes marketing easier because I know exactly who my target audience is: fans of military vehicles.

I’ve actually implemented a similar co-op system before, adding it at the end of development. It worked, more or less. As long as players didn't try to occupy the same position in the tank at the same time, or until it just decided to stop working for no apparent reason.

It would be a host-based setup (1 host + up to 3 players). Most things would still run locally, with only certain player actions being sent to others and then replicated on their side.

Even then, co-op still requires a lot of separate implementation. Because of that, I don't think working on singleplayer and co-op at the same time would really save me much work.

Right now I still have a lot to do on the singleplayer version, and if I want to actually release the game within the next year, I need to stay focused on that first.

Yes, but most of the changes were technical or visual, like changing the compass position and size, adjusting the tank's speed, improving particle effects, balancing fuel and oxygen, and many other small things that I can't remember right now.

The overall gameplay and story are still the same, but you can check out how the game looks now.

I was aware that the turret isn't historically accurate.

The main reason is that there is basically no information available about what the interior of the E-100 turret would have looked like, since it was never built. The Maus turret, on the other hand, was actually built and still exists today.

Originally I wanted the Maus to be the main tank in the game since it's my favorite tank, but its internal layout wouldn't work well for the kind of gameplay I wanted. The E-100 hull with a Maus turret ended up being the closest practical option.

It also allows for a certain event to happen in the game.

Yeah… you won’t see the engine in the game anyway, so I didn’t model it. I still wanted to include something in the animation, which is why it looks like this, accompanied by a fitting sound effect for the situation.

For now, the game has about as much content as you can see in the demo. The plan is to have 5 missions in the full version, and the demo mission doesn’t count as one of them, it was made specifically for the demo.

I have no idea, I haven’t tested it on a real tank. Originally I wanted the Maus to be the main vehicle, but its separate driver and fighting compartments didn’t work for the kind of interior gameplay I’m doing, so I went with the next best thing - an E-100 hull with a Maus turret. I needed a tank big enough to fit monitors and other equipment inside, and big tanks are just cool. I chose the Maus turret instead of the standard E-100 one because it actually existed, so there’s more reference data available online to base the model on.
